What this tool does

This interactive tool helps you work out who to contact when you are dealing with anti-social behaviour from neighbours. It takes the details of what is happening and gives you a clear list of who to call first, in order of priority.

The reason this matters is that different types of behaviour are handled by different authorities, whether that is the police, your local council's anti-social behaviour team, environmental health, or housing providers. Getting this right from the start saves time and gets you the help you need faster.

When to use it

Use this tool when you are experiencing problems like persistent noise, harassment, drug dealing, vandalism, or other disruptive behaviour from neighbours and you are not sure whether to call the police, council, or someone else first.

It is particularly helpful if you have already tried speaking to the person causing the problem but the behaviour continues, or if the situation is escalating and you want to take formal action.

How it works

You answer five straightforward questions about the type of behaviour, where it is happening, how often, who is involved, and what you have already tried. The tool then explains whether your situation counts as criminal behaviour, civil anti-social behaviour, statutory nuisance, or a housing management issue.

You get a prioritised list of contacts, from emergency services if needed through to council teams, housing providers, and support organisations. The tool also explains what evidence to gather, such as keeping a diary or taking photographs, and tells you about the ASB Case Review process if you feel your complaints are not being handled properly. Nothing you enter is saved, and you do not need to create an account.
