Hints and Tips on Dealing With Troublesome Neighbours

Start with a conversation, not a confrontation

Most people want to get along with their neighbours. But not every neighbour is easy to live beside, and problems can build up quickly if left unaddressed.

The temptation when something goes wrong is to react straight away. Resist this. If you have been kept awake by loud music or found rubbish dumped in your garden, wait until you have calmed down before doing anything. Approaching someone when you are angry rarely ends well.

Once you feel ready, ask your neighbour if you can have a quick word. Keep it casual and friendly. Many disputes start because one party genuinely did not realise they were causing a problem. They may not know how much sound travels through the walls, or that their dog barks all day while they are at work.

Give them a fair chance to put things right. A simple conversation resolves many minor issues without any lasting bad feeling on either side, though some situations will require more persistence.

Put it in writing if talking does not work

Sometimes a conversation is not possible or does not produce results. You might feel uncomfortable speaking face to face, or your neighbour may have dismissed your concerns. In these situations, a letter or note can be useful.

Keep your letter polite and factual. Describe the problem clearly, explain how it affects you, and suggest what you would like to happen. Avoid accusations or threats. The goal is to open a dialogue, not to escalate the situation.

It helps to keep a copy of any letters you send. If the dispute continues and you need to involve a third party later, having a record of your attempts to resolve things informally will work in your favour.

Written communication also gives your neighbour time to consider what you have said without feeling put on the spot. Some people respond better to this than to a doorstep conversation.

Your situation may be slightly different. ask a question below ↓ and our editorial team will reply with our advice.

Bring in outside help

If direct contact has not worked, there are several options for getting outside support.

  • Mediation services can help neighbours talk through their differences with a neutral third party. Some local councils offer community mediation, though availability and cost vary by area. You can find details through your council's website. This is often quicker and less stressful than formal complaints or legal action.
  • Your local council may be able to help with certain problems, particularly noise nuisance, rubbish, and antisocial behaviour. Contact the Environmental Health team for noise or waste issues, or the Anti-Social Behaviour team for ongoing disturbances. Councils have powers to investigate complaints and can issue warnings or fines where appropriate.
  • If you rent your home, your housing provider may have procedures for dealing with neighbour disputes. The same applies if your neighbour is a tenant. Their housing provider may be able to intervene.
  • Citizens Advice can provide free guidance on your rights and the options available to you. Their website covers a wide range of neighbour issues.

Mediation is particularly beneficial because of its good success rate and ability to preserve neighbourly relationships that might otherwise be damaged permanently by formal complaints or legal proceedings.

Know when to take formal action

Some problems are too serious for informal resolution. If you are being harassed, threatened, or your neighbour's behaviour is affecting your health or safety, you may need to take formal steps.

You can report antisocial behaviour to your local council or the police, depending on the nature of the problem. For persistent noise issues, councils can take enforcement action under statutory nuisance laws. For harassment or criminal behaviour, the police are the right starting point.

Legal action through the courts is possible but usually a last resort. It can be expensive and time consuming, and the outcome is never guaranteed. Before going down this route, get proper legal advice. A solicitor experienced in neighbour disputes can tell you whether you have a realistic case and what it might cost. This is particularly important for boundary disputes or disagreements over shared access, where the law can be complex.

Whatever approach you take, keep records. Maintain a detailed log of incidents, including dates, times, and descriptions. Take photographs where relevant, though be mindful of your neighbour's privacy when doing so. This evidence will be useful if you need to make a formal complaint or pursue legal action later.

Neighbour problems can be draining, but most can be resolved without things becoming too unpleasant. Start gently, keep records, and seek help early if the situation is not improving.

@AD What you're describing goes well beyond a neighbour dispute, it's harassment, threats and animal cruelty, all of which are criminal offences. If the local police aren't taking it seriously, put everything in writing to them, ask for a crime reference number, and request the matter be reviewed by a sergeant or inspector. Report the animal abuse to the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999 with dates, times and any photos or vet records, as their evidence often pushes police to act. Contact your council's Anti Social Behaviour team too, and ask Victim Support (08 08 16 89 111) to help you log incidents and apply pressure. Keep a written diary of every incident, it's your strongest tool when agencies finally listen.

I moved house 7 month ago due to bad neighbours, I let the person know about the issues, unfortunately they didn't tell me about there's. My neighbour has made threats of violence, constantly banging thru my bedroom wall from 4 am until 8.40 am, watches my house all day, has been the cause of the death of one of my cats, he waited outside for me to find her thru someone phoning my number, he just laughed & gloated at my heartache & misery, beat another up to the point she couldn't walk, then recently I caught him whack her with his hand, he's constantly terrorising my cats even when lying on their own doorstep. He's told people not to talk to me & to try & scare me, I'm a 59 year old woman on her own & he's 72. From the day I moved in he constantly day & night has threatened to get rid of my cats & kill them. For someone who wants me out of my home, he's constantly causing so much sleeplessness & stress that I can't fix the house up so that I can get another exchange. I contacted police but they are all for him. This is the worst experience of my life, it's cost me so much money at the vets. There was a time I'd be forgiving, not anymore. There's too many wicked people out there & the law is always for them. My life & my cats lives have never been the same, it's devastating. The law needs to change.

@What can we do You make a fair point about rising above it, as reacting often gives troublemakers exactly what they want. Keeping a written log and reporting serious issues to the council, environmental health or your landlord is usually far more effective than confrontation. And you're right that we should all check our own behaviour too, noise and nuisance can go both ways without us realising.

Unfortunately we live in a world that lacks respect for one another and gossiping is a great past time people are becoming more separated and isolation is a real thing for some people some people are determined to bring hell on other's and thay injoy the results unfortunately there are plenty of people that join In many because thay have no back bone to tell the gossiping person thay don't want to be involved rather thay join in become friends and I think its to protect themselves understandable but not helpful to the victims I myself have a gossiping neighbour and has managed to be friend others so am the target because I don't get involved also am sure my gossiping neighbour is worried I could tell people her issues and problems I really do feel name and shame could bring more problems volence is never the answer ever personally ignoring what can only be people with mental health issues is the best way if volence or damage to property happens be careful to take the right road go to solicitors housing landlords the people that are doing this are only to happy to see your reaction and hope it's a negative one so thay can carry on been horrible and life is to short no one should be made feel uncomfortable in there own home but unfortunately it happens either learn to live peacefully and except your neighbours are gits and get on with your life or move there not going to change so you need to put your wellbeing and family health first and if your the sort of person who says why should I move then deal with it in a peaceful manner am very understanding to people's concerns but something we bring it on are selfs because of how we deal with thing's a barking dog will bring destress in time so be mindful your dog could be bringing destress to other's damage property brings destress and heartace depending on what's been damaged so be mindful of other's property and if your neighbours are gossiping troublesome people be mindful and don't get involved and if things get out of hand either move or go to local office landlords or whom ever look after yourselves and other's don't get angry or even your then just as bad
Wish you all well and hope we all have are issues resolved

My troublemaker neighbor Doris of Omaha, NE kept harassing me and my elderly Mom for 15 years and Doris kept LYING to her neighbors, her Bridge players, her friends from Methodist Church and even strangers and her family and her relatives about us and they believed that EVIL old religious witch!! How sad!! They looked at our house when they were outside. Doris is 86 years old. She live with her drug addict son at her house.
Whenever, my Mom and I visit my young late brother’s grave on his birthday and on his death day, Doris sent her stalkers to stalk us at the cemetery for 15 years even though Doris never met my late brother and my late brother never met Doris and her stalkers. They are all pure EVIL and hope they will all Burn in Hell!! They deserve it!! Doris’s stalkers put ugly flowers on my brother’s grave on his birthday and death day on purpose. The stalkers were watching me and my older sister putting up our own real red roses on our late brother’s grave by his headstone, not their ugly fake flowers. They were in their cars watching us at the cemetery until we were done and then they leave. How Evil and Heartless are they!! Doris’s stalkers did not visit any graves but they were watching us. Doris doesn’t want to walk far to my late brother’s grave so she send all of her DUMB Stalkers to do it for her Dand they do it. What is so Special about this Evil old Witch?? Jeez!! We don’t know her friends (Stalkers) and they don’t know us. We know Doris because she is our Neighbor from Hell! They won’t stop harassing us. We mind our own business. Doris never get sick because she is EVIL!!! Doris wished bad health problems on us because she is a Witch! Doris is very Dangerous to us because we have health problems because of her, her evil family and friends. Pray for us. Thank you.

My neighbours used to have a large trampoline in a very small space and play with a ball in it. The result being the ball would come over the wall smashing multiple ornaments and lights. Also cracks started appearing on the wall. My husband pointed it out and they replaced the trampoline with a hot tub. They play football now in the front lawn despite me pointing out there is a park just up the road. The back of the goals is next to my shrubs which they often miss. They are constantly in and out of my garden retrieving the ball and trample through plants/shrubs
They do not have a garden. The father plays with the children. I am sick fed up of all the neighbourhoods children coming in and out of my garden and talking to them makes no difference. What can I do?

I have a neighbor who is also a good friend. Problem is this, when he finishes mowing, he always sprays off his mower and let’s the wet grass flow down to our curb making a very messy appearance! Can’t understand how he doesn’t notice this as every other curb around our area is clean and free of messes.
Please help me to figure out a way to let him know without harming a good friendship!!

My neighbour is known in the neighbourhood as a difficult man but we have had a reasonable relationship with him for the 5 years, as long as things went his way. However about 15 months ago we bought a puppy, having lost our 14 year old dog. Since then our neighbour has become extremely aggressive towards us, shouting and swearing, hurling vile insulting language, banging on the wall furiously day and night every time he hears our dog bark - he barks within the range of any other normal behaved dog! We have repeatedly tried to reason with him, to no avail, eventually involving the police, who have been to see him regarding his behaviour, but his attitude is “I don’t give a damn what the police say if I hear your dog even woof I’ll bang, swear, and verbally abuse you”. I’m at my wits end, I’m stressed, anxious and can’t relax in my own home with him constantly breathing down our necks just because we’ve got a dog, who is a delightfully friendly, happy little Poochon. I’m retired, and my husband is registered blind, which the neighbour takes every opportunity to mock him for. Please can you help us to know what to do, he’s making our lives hell.

Iv been having trouble with my neighbour for the last 5 years . It all started when I caught her 30 yr old son naked trying to break in my house this was very frightening. The police done nothing … then I noticed she started dressing like me dyed her hair the same as mine .. trying to do her garden like mine . Everything sheets towels etc all the same as me .. then she got 2 dogs which she makes bark from morning to night . She has jack Russell’s that have the most loud & annoying yapping . After time I lost my hair had panic attacks & even had a cancer scare which lucky it wasn’t it was down to stress.. iv had mediation which hasn’t worked .. I have a disabled sun with autism who hates the noise from the dogs as he hates loud noises .. every morning she loves to wake him up .. ..police council & mediation hasn’t worked Iv had enough of her never meet anyone so weird & strange as her she stalks me when I’m in the garden as soon as she hears my voice she barks the dogs if my windows open she barks the dogs if I’m in the shower and she sees the steam coming from the vent she will bark them .. But I’m not moving I’m not letting her bully me out of my home as I know that’s what she wants

I have lived in my property for only 1 year everything was fine until she let kids in her back garden to throw eggs at my house. Asked her politely if she could stop them just to be told " I can't stop them going in my garden....its only eggs!"
Tells me everything I need to know about her, trouble is the younger generation have no respect for anything. In the year I've been here I've never once complained about her shouting very loud at her mother who has dementia at 1 in the morning waking my daughter up..that's why I'm logging everything that happens I'm not going to stoop to her level

It has been about 4 years of neighbours inviting random people to use their house as though it is a nightclub, playing loud music, shouting and cursing, arguing, scrapping and all this occurs all the way through the night right up until 11 o clock in the morning mainly in summer with only 1 or 2 days of almost quiet a week. I suffer with anxiety and my dad is a 70 year old man and neither of us can cope with this hell on earth that never comes to a close. We have both called up noise patrol on several occasions and got given a box twice to record their behaviour and we got a lot of evidence on it, however this still is not enough to stop them and the council even sent them a letter telling them they have to be quiet and issued them with a final notice but they only go quiet for a short while before they start up again. This weekend was a warm one and this is the time that it gets really bad just before summer. Friday night my sleeping pattern was once again ruined by the sound of shouting and music which made me feel anxious but last night they started lighting fires in their yard and the smoke wafted into my bedroom while I was in bed and found it difficult to breath. I closed my window but had to open again only to have more smoke come in, just before they all started arguing and fighting with each other. My room now stinks of smoke that was recently decorated with nice new smelling furniture. I cannot take this much longer and something has to be done now, I cant have another summer of this none stop anti social behaviour, it is so unbelievable that they are allowed to do this in a residential area with elderly people living in this small, once quiet street. These people have absolutely no respect for any other person which really annoys me.

For almost five years now both me & my girlfriend has suffered infrequent disturbances from our neighbour. He is an absolute nightmare to live next door to. We have been in touch with the police, the local council, his family, his mental health nurse, in fact everyone we can possibly think of apart from “The A Team”, (Google it if you’re too young).

Anyway, he has various people visit at anytime in the day, which he is entitled to - don’t get me wrong, he has his own life to live & we respect that but when it impacts ours we suffer, however his what we are led to believe his “best mate” pops round maybe once every fortnight or so to was his car round his, this “best mate” has a suspended sentence for growing cannabis, so make your own mind up about who goes round there & for what reason.

Also we have designated car parking spaces outside our house & another one of his mates, has for maybe two months now parked his SORNed vehicle in our space.

We have a noise abatement notice served against him but because of the infrequent nature of the disturbances the council apparently are unable to prosecute, recording equipment has been installed & we have been able to capture evidence but not enough of it.. it’s been FIVE years almost now, not enough evidence?, really?

His family only visit once in a blue moon & in the past they’ve counted on us to look out for him & his welfare, we had a key & on one occasion o almost had to break down his front door because his smoke alarm was going on for too long, he fell asleep whilst cooking, it started to burn on the stove whilst he was heavily asleep & as he’s deaf didn’t hear the smoke alarm going off, currently off work with stress & anxiety with it all.

I have heard him laughing and insulting me on numerous occasions calls me ugly then puts porn on his TV after me talking about a very private subject in my life. All when I'm alone he and his wife do this. I was talking to another family member about what they are up to regarding listing to my conversations with a radio and the next day he puts one out side my house then denied he ever did it. I have seriously had enough with my neighbour.
They are from Portugal and NEVER stops having BBQ in the rain, snow - whatever the weather condition throughout the year, just literally ALL the time:(
They dont care to block my driveway, throw rubbish in front of my garden porch, their horrible kids (2 young boys) scream maniac in the garden all the time.
We cannot stay outside and once we have, they kicked a ball into our garden - no apologies but when I refused to return the ball without their apologies, they started shouting&swearing at us. I am a single mother and my kids were freaked out when the man climbed at the fence and shouted at my son.
I have never been to Portugal but dont they have any manners? Any common sense?
Why they are so self-centred and only care about their lifestyle???
I have contacted the local council several times but no help at all.
Cannot afford to move the house - devastated.

Tulip333 try your safer neighbourhood team either through the police or council. Police are better if it's malicious noise and harassment. The quickest way is to see a solicitor and get help that way down the private route as environmental health take forever if at all to do anything.

Failing all that, the only other option is to move and choose carefully, do your research where you move.

I have a neighbour who has installed a surveilance camera. I am not sure if they got permission from the realtor they have devulged this I have asked but have not been given an answer. Before this happened my umbrella was blown into the properties driveway. They came out of the appartment and deliberately ran over it. I went next door proceeded to take a photo of the crushed item. The door to property opened and I said you ran over my umbrella he I don't know what you are talking about. I heard you do it he then picked his phone and filmed. Now he is telling the agent I have visited the property on numerous occasions and the children are scared. His wife works as a manager in child care they are not her children go figure that out. The agent has sided with him as he has one piece of evidence against me. I have lived in my property for close to 23 years never had a problem with the neighbours. The umbrella turned up in my backyard three days later after being put in his bin after being destroyed by his car. This was Sunday just gone . Monday being Queens birthday weekend the security camera was being put up as came out to have my morning coffee and cigarettes. I feel like I am the victim but I am being looked at buy the agent as the trouble maker as I have been videoed once not the multiple times he is claiming that I have been to the property. The agent keeps asking me to give her evidence against him but hasn't requested to see any evidence that I have been to the property multiple times.

Neighbours that we are racist very serious allegations with no evidence or prioof of this not to mention lies and untrue we are from Caribbean background my both parents and myself was born in the Caribbean so to find this out was damaging and shocking these kind of things should never be allowed to happen not to mention people like her should be held accountable for those vicious accusations and needs to be stopped.
AnnoyedNeighbour 08/06/2021 at 12:52 am
Landlord next to our house has just let to a DSS tenant for the first time. I’m sorry to say, she and her idle boyfriend have done nothing to challenge the stereotype that benefits claimants are lazy scumbags who would be better off in a Victorian workhouse (at least they’d be making use of themselves).
Constant noise, day or night. Neglectful of the current only child. I’m hoping they have another so the council move them on…it’s only a 2 bed semi. The amount they shag, it doesn’t seem unfeasible. In the interim though they have made living here unbearable. We have cancelled plans to extend the house and will be looking to move next year.
M 07/05/2021 at 11:16 pm
I have been living here for five years, and this couple just moved in a year ago. Things have turned into a nightmare. At first, I noticed they copycat everything I do. When I put fall season decoration at my front door, then neighbor buys the same stuff I had; I had Halloween decoration and pumpkins craved from my kids and put on the front doorsteps. The next day, the neighbors did the same thing I did, again with Christmas decoration, even bought some wreaths at my house. It became annoying for them to copy everything I do.

Also, they copy everything we do in our yard. If I work on my landscaping, then the next day, they copied what I did. They don’t introduce themselves to the neighbors, not even say friendly hi at all. They stayed home 24/7 all day and didn’t interact with a neighbor or even offer help. I caught them watched us through their windows. I caught the guy stared at me the whole time when I was mowed in our backyard and gave me creeps. Also caught, the woman walks over to our backyard to take a look at what we have. It’s none of their business. Recently, we had an Easter egg hunt for my little toddler for fun. They did the same thing, but the kid is 11 years old. I don’t think 11-12 yrs old wanted to have Easter Egg hunts in their yard.

Things got worse; when I was working outside and painting the house, this woman came out of the blue, looked angry, and refused eye contact, so I just ignored her. She walked into the house and slammed the door, and shut the curtains.
My husband and I were like, what’s her problem. The following next day, I came home from work; this guy gave the creepiest look at me while I back up my car to my driveway. I tried to ignore him. He kept staring at me in a bad way until my husband came out from the house, then the neighbor guy looked it away. Then he started to harass me every time I go outside to get my mail or do yard work in the front of the house; he comes out and watches me. I don’t feel safe around them when they are home. It appears that he knows when I go out, then he comes out too. I caught the kid tom peeping through the window blinds while we are outside. We had put fences around our backyard to protect ourselves and wanted privacy as well. I stopped doing the yard work because of him. He would walk and watched me what I do. I told my husband I could not do the yard work or get mail because of him. I didn’t know what to do. I don’t feel safe around them while I am home alone. It seems they don’t get the message. I just wanted to the left alone and have privacy and peace at home.

My neighbour was very nice until she settled in and after that she has been a nightmare ,throwing eggs at windows putting a scruffy parasol next to my wall even if it's raining ,we all nickname her village idiot even though we live in a cul- Dec-sac with only six bungalows, she has only moved 6 houses away and I wondered why she asked me not to tell her neighbours she was moving. After she moved her old neighbours said you'll be sorry she moved next to you as they had 30years of her behaviour ,you can be sat in garden and all of a sudden a pan of water will be slung over fence. I've been in touch with antisocial behaviour people and it goes quiet for 2 weeks then starts again like picking rubbish up in street and cleaning guttering out and throws it all over my garden late at night.

We are from the UK. Opposite us are two dirty rapist Muslims who have had the police going back and fourth all the time. The police chopped one of the fingers off a man a few doors up which made the news and mostly every house in the street has dogs barking. The thing the pisses me off the most thought are the old bags moaning about the smell of cannabis. I have legal CBD bud that I order online and have smoked for 10 years here and now we have some old has been uneducated imbecile reporting us for smoking drugs. We have had the police here multiple times, shown them the CBD weed and they just tell us to try and keep the smell down. Why the hell are people so against the amazing smell of cbd cannabis? They moan about the smell of drugs while taking in little girls and praying to Allah, I don't understand what is going on in my street. I feel like I need to order a gun or some sort of defensive weapon to protect myself from these lunatics.

I've had harassment at all 3 of my last properties. First was a couple who lived in flat above me, loud music at stupid o clock on week nights, chucking dirty nappies and cigarette butts in my garden, she made comments if I was minding my own business in my garden. Moved to another flat where the woman in the flat below started making up lies about me and asking other residents to join in with the lies (they didn't), she stopped my daughter and her friend and asked them to leavd her kids alinecand shd told them they had bad parents! Her daughter then started stealing and had people coming round about it and then her daughter dropped a concrete door stop on her own brothers foot. I complained and eventually it got sorted.
I'm now in a house and was okay until neighbour moved in 18 months ago. Screaming at her son constantly, pretty sure she hits him but son is screaming and up on his console keeping my daughter awake and as she is up at 6am sometimes, I complained and then she started screeching at me after the H.A spoke to her and she acted like a victim! I stood up to her though and she backed down. She'd already shouted at another neighbour previously who was making noise and keeping her awake but then when she did it, the old 2 face came out.
Just record it and record it, housing associations must be regulated by someone you can go to directly.

when I moved into my flat 4 yrs ago..I had a drug addiction when I first moved in to my flat and the local housing put me on a 6 month about as there were lies getting told about me..at the time I never reported any of there vile comments..putting me down constantly...sitting alienated at summer when all sitting out in good weather and id be left sitting myself on the grass while they all would be speaking about me...I have a red alert on my address as I went threw domestic abuse n got moved from flat to flat for a long time so I have ptsd I have been off the drugs for two years.... I was then trying to fit into their ways cause I thought it was the normal but no I didn't like the so I pulled myself away from them and now that I am working with different volunteer services as I want to be a mentor for abused kids n women they dont like it and have turned every neighbour against me ive had neighbours come to my door and tell me that my grandaughter won't be back to my flat ...thats them expecting a reaction from me but I just said ok thank you bye n closed my door...but since then there's pple that are moving into building and im telling them my past cause I know they will get told it anyway... and I shouldn't having to be doing that ..ive had them trying to get petitions etc to try n get me out the building and also done the same when my oldest son moved in with me even though they are illegal but this is all to get a reaction out of me as they all know that I would get lifted by police or put out and made homeless which I think is very sad and pathetic considering the life ive pulled myself away from after 32 yrs of abuse ...but this is the last straw on emas eve I came back into building and I received a message from one of neighbours threatening to kill me so for first time phoned the police as I was in fear threw my domestic abuse I went threw n my ptsd but ive been writing all the incidents down then on Xmas day after my parents left my oldest son got a message from one of neighbours and he went down n I saw what flat he went into and it is one of neighbours who sells cannabis and street valium and when he came back up he had a nasty side in him and ended up battering me n wrecking my doors I had to put him out n phone police on him..a friend came last night a Christian I go to church with coz he was worried about me n im sitting with black eyes etc so I think they were not expecting me to phone police but I know that his drink had been spiked n whether its my son or not I will not be abused in my own house and also one of neighbours who works in local hospital has looked up my medical files and ive not done anything about that ...I feel trapped in my flat and I am top flat so need to walk by them all its so unfair I know many things about there pasts and I dont use that against them I just need a bit of help with information with what to do I have the police incident numbers and everything else wrote down also 2 yrs ago when I c

I’ve lived in my flat, rented through Housing 21 for 8 years now and it has honestly been the worst years of my life. I moved after the first 2 years because I was wakened up every morning by the noise of their pump in the bathroom getting rid of the water in their wet room. I moved to an adjacent flat and have been wakened up every night at all times while the selfish OAP watches TV. The Court warden has tried to evict me 3 times and failed each time - I caught her eavesdropping outside my flat and reported her to her Manager. I had just returned from the funeral of my sister-in-law in Australia and 2 friends came to visit to make sure I was ok. As I opened the door to let them out, that’s when we caught this warden! I have now contacted my local Councillor and so she is aware of what’s going on. Another gentleman on the Court is in contact with the Ombudsman so hopefully I will get a chance to voice my opinion. It is blatant victimisation and I could move, but I will not give in to this “manager” who doesn’t know the meaning of the word impartial!! So why are Housing 21 allowing this to go on?!!! Her Manager has since resigned probably because he was as guilty as her of being economical with the truth!! It won’t be resolved anytime soon but at least I may be able to go and stay at a friends as he works away Mon-Fri. I’m fortunate to keep in good health but what leaves me astounded is that some people are just so ignorant and selfish and yet no action is taken because of favouritism!!

I've been fighting my neighbour for nearly a year now. Their addicted to cannabis and the smell rises up and makes my flat stink. I've got on to housing association, environmental health, police and my MP and nothing has been done about it. I'm now at breaking point where it's affecting my health
Fluffy 14/12/2020 at 7:30 pm
Yes it's so heart breaking to listen to these stories but I'm encouraged that I'm not alone either. Certainly it's best to stay calm and not overreact to thier issues and only do this if your personal safety' is compromise.
Best to move if you can if bot battle down the hatches and accept they are just not worth it.and dont show fear they thrive in that as most are sad little bullies with very sad small lives and are jealous.
Certainly dint look at evil in the face blank them get them out your mind try and do your normal activities however difficult that may be ..show them your not bothered go.out park your car outside show them you have a life...
Pray to God for delivery from evil and pray they may change but be firm and do realise they probably wont change and your wasting your time trying to be kind to them..they hate you and are cowards licking on perceived weaknesses. Give then no information whatsoever about you or your life or family watch out for others enabling them and feeding them gossip while pretending to be your friend.
Blessed are the persecuted because they will see God and inherit eternal life ..forgive then Father for they do not know what they do...

I live above a man who has mental health problems, he owns his flat and I have been in contact with police and council and nothing has worked! He shouts vile things at random times of the day, including early hours of the morning, middle of the night, hes been on one all weekend this one just gone and hes still on it no! He swears, threatens and screams to the voices he hears. He can go on rants just having loud conversations about big brother watching. He then plays the radio, TV or blasts 3 different types of music at once. I hear it all. He could go quiet for a few days then he'll start all over again. Ive lived with this for 18 months and so has my 12 Yr old son. Its taking a real toll on us now, I feel at breaking point, I feel I have no where to turn and I dont have the money to move out of here. Im stuck here having to listen to it all the time! I cant live like this anymore and I need help!

How does one deal with neighbours that are making claims about you that are untrue?
Bernie 66 08/11/2020 at 5:57 pm
Hi, I live on my own and have an eccentric older neighbour. When I moved in she was so welcoming. I took her shopping, helped her out with various things. The last two years she had become very difficult to deal with. The first dispute was about the fence . She doesn't approach things in a calm way but adopts a very beligerent attitude. I ended up replacing the fence and made it higher so I had privacy. Today she band on the door and said 'Can you move your car, I'm struggling to work round there and I don't need struggle . I've been struggling for years'. She goes round the back and hammers the nails in her fence and fiddles around with the verge of grass. I really do not like the way she speaks to me , I make no noise at all and find myself taking a different route if she is out the front. I just want a quiet life. Of course she has no family and is a hoarder. The house and garden are completely overrun . I have thought of moving but I like this house. I spend a lot of time on my own especially as we are in lockdown and it does get me down. Thanks for listening.

Hi
I feel so low.
My neighbour hates me and calls me a prostitute. I work with vulnerable people .
She keeps shouting and I hate it.
The other day I lost my temper and knocked on her door and said stop doing this.
I feel they are wanting me out she keeps saying really horrible things to her partner about me and her young daughter does also.
I love my little flat and am getting depressed.
She shouts vile things and I’m so sad
Totally fed up 28/10/2020 at 9:32 pm
First of all I completely empathise with all the fed up people on this forum. I never post of these things but just need an outlet which I’m sure is the case for everyone else. Right, where to start? We’ve had new tenants move onto our road and they have been nothing short of a nightmare. Where to start? What can only be described as mini wars in the street we’ve had chairs being flung in the street, parking cones and bats being swung resulting in the police showing up and arresting one of them (this was on two separate occasions just so you all have an idea that this happened more than once), several events of racial abuse (called a neighbour a black m*nkey), placing cones outside of their property where they think they have the right to park despite being told several times they don’t have the right as it’s not a dropped kerb. Regarding the latter, they were screaming at a driver who attempted to remove the cones claiming it’s their right to park outside of their house because “the blacks get to park outside of their house” referring to me and my neighbour who both have drives and dropped kerbs. They have several cars for that one property and become very angry when told they cannot park outside of a property that has a dropped kerb. They slam doors at night and make a lot of noise as they come and go. I just want them gone so we can all get our peaceful and intimidation-free road back. Good luck everyone x

Hi we have a neighbour that is harassing us with wood smoke. We made the initial error of asking him nicely to please stop the heavy smoke from coming into our home.
He saw RED and has defamed us around the neighbourhood, thrown dead rats over the fence, verbal abuse, has his visitors yell at us, his mates come around and glare at us from their cars, told me to get inside when I was only placing rubbish in bin, soaked me with his hose because he heard the bin lid go up, sent letters saying we poisoned his trees, then sent a letter of demand for $2500.00. The poisoning threats came after we advised him that his tree roots had lifted our path. We went to the council asking for help over the smoke issue, reluctant to assist, went to the Police, told we needed a Restraining Order - Poke the bear - I don't think that is a good idea as he has firearms.
Help - No help.
Mands 14/10/2020 at 7:05 pm
I moved into a council property in June. The downstairs neighbour is really loud, all throughout the night. If it's not the TV, it's doors banging or she's hoovering, or shouting. I can't remember the amount of times I've been woken up, thinking my tv had turned itself on. It's like her TV is in my room. This is a purpose built block with concrete floors. I asked her twice, in the middle of the night, to please turn it down. Since then, she's reported me to the police for running an illegal childcare business (I had my granddaughter to stay), reported me for "having male visitors"( I had a takeaway delivery), she asked the old tenant to let himself into my home so that she could "see what's going on". She's reported me for suspected drug use, because I had a cigarette on my balcony. This person is making my life a misery. I've been in hospital with sleep deprivation psychosis. I'm now on medication. The council, so far, have not been bothered. They've treated me like the problem for complaining instead of investigating the problem. Another resident of this block knows exactly what this person is like. She has a history of it. Help. What do I do?

My Neighbor (A)who has issue with me parking my car front of my own property since day 1 he keeps coming knocking on door every day other telling me to keep moving my car abit more back but I cannot do that due to my brothers car parked behide me and behide my brothers Neighbor(B) garageway which has to be clear every day we cannot block his driveway, i have been very paitent dealing with Neighbor (A) I have been ignoring him for so long but recently his bullied and insulted me one too many times, causing me to have to step out and have a heated discussion in my defense

Everything Im doing parking on the street is legal, at what point does this behavior qualify as harassment and what can I do to get him of my back?

However, while it is not illegal to park in front of my own house or anyone's else's house, it is certainly inconsiderate. Every homeowner likes the convience of being able to park in front of their own house.

Neighbor(A)the family have absolutley loads of room to park their car outside their house.  The wife and husband are choosing to be awkward.  If one of our cars are not outside our house they will park it front of our driveway space just to get some sort of reaction out of us. This leaves us nowhere else to park in the street other than park on opposite side of street which is a very high kerb and getting the car of that causes damage on my car & tires easily lose air and end up flat due to parking on high kerbs I can guarantee if we park over the entrance to theirs they will moan about it. But I choose not to do that as I do not want arguments with them as he is very aggressive, scary and frightening

I am not a confrontational person and these people have fiery aggressive tongues. I explained to police via 101 and personally the person I spoke to on the phone wasn't helpful or trying to understand my situation i felt as if he was taking sides since he got showen a video of me shouting while me and neighbour was arguing i also had proof of him shouting at me and coming so close to my face threatening to slap me across my face on this man probably falls in 50-55 age range arguing with me I am 29 years old he has 3 kids, kids who watch him argue and shouting so loud that you could hear him end of the street I feel like that is a very bad behaviour plus the kids watching and growing up around environment like that its awful he has no shame and certainly has some sort of issues with his brain his behaviour is very abnormal. He walks around my car multiple times through out the day keeps looking at my car all day everytime i get out the house he has his eyes on me looks out the bedroom window even if im returning home from going out etc like at 1,2 am

He threatening to slap me and get my legs broken takes var pictures of my car every other day and also of me I find it with creepy and strange behaviour

The police hasn't been much help instead police just telling me not to worry and its not a big deal you shou

Moved into a shared ownership flat around 5 years ago as it was the only way we could get on the property ladder. Worst decision i ever made and dont recommend it to anybody. What they dont tell you is you will be housed with absolute scum neighbours who will damage the property, stink the place out with drugs, play loud base music every night and scream and shout around 24-7. Housing association are quick to remind you that they own the building but yet are not interested in their tenants damaging their property or the law breaking that goes on. The police are useless and have called them multiple times but its not their problem. If i beat my neighbour up im sure they would not hesitate in coming out to get me. My wife has worked for the NHS during the pandemic, helping people then has to come home to the Jeremy Kyle flat block and endure no sleep before another long day at work.
WJ 05/09/2020 at 12:51 am
I moved into my dream home in May 2018. A detached bungalow in a quiet cul de sac neighbourhood. It wasn't long until I realised that the dream was an nightmare. The next door neighbour plays LOUD bass music over most weekends nights, it starts around 23:30 and last until 06/07:00 the following morning. This summer I had enough of it and started phoning the council about it, they sent out a sheet and ask for all the previous dates/times the nuisance occurred, which I did & returned. They then gave me an out of hours number to phone when the music happens. When I phoned them they take all the details and then get someone from the "inside housing solutions" to phone me back, they then take all the details again and then send someone to attend the neighbourhood and witness the noise. This has happened twice already, I was lucky enough to speak to the same lady when I had to call for the second time. She confirmed she did attend and witnessed the noise, she confirmed that the resident was aggressive even though two police officers were with her.
Tonight there's extra loud bass thumping music being played, I've just phoned the out of hours number again but they have "a new phone system" and I didn't speak to anyone from previous times that I had to call. It feels like I'm just getting nowhere.
I get extreme anxiety when the weekends approach now and I'm depressed all the time. I beginning to hate myself for buying this property and all I want to do now is do it up, try and make a bit of profit and sell it ASAP. Either that or smash my neighbours skull in and peed insanity.
Boysmum 20/08/2020 at 12:17 am
Me and partner finally able to afford to buy a house after years live in council house. We moved to our new house in January with our 2 boys. (4 years old and 10 years old with Autism) Beginning of May during lockdown, police turned up at next door neighbour. Because someone in the street call the police, she left her children (can’t be older than 10) alone all day and late night with a dog and 3 cats (found out from other neighbour) She thought it was us, who called the police. That’s when the problems started. Instead of children left alone, she left the dog barking continually at least 12 hours a day. Poor dog.
We have left her a note about the dog barking said, are you aware that when you are out, your dog have been barking all day sound like it’s in distress. Please can you find a sitter for the dog. She came to my door challenge me to call the police.
Because of the dog barking noise. My autism child had to put headphone on all day because he can’t tolerate the noise. I had to take my boys out to their godmother house to get some peace.
Also, she decided to clear out her house put all rubbish in front garden. I wish, I could attached photos on this comment. The smell of rubbish, cats and dog urine were really overwhelmed. There was blue bottle files infested and mice running out from her garden witness by neighbor from other side. My children wouldn’t go out in the back garden because of the smell from next door rubbish. The other day I took my washing out. She shouted aggressively in her language at me from her bedroom window. But then, housing officer called me to say that, his tenant are feeling victimizing by us because she’s foreign.
I am foreign and I live and work in UK Since I wS young. I suffered badly from anxiety, I won’t go out to put washing out anymore. I cried so many times cause I wanted to move. But we spent all money we have on decorating the house. It’s our 1st family home but we couldn’t even enjoy it.

I bought my maisonette 12 years ago, new neighbors bought the flat down stairs. We have a communal garden. They knocked out there back window and put in a patio door into the garden what is always open when they are in .and have blocked the entrance to the garden so there dog ( bull mastiff) can run around and poo everywhere, and they do not clean it up, if I say anything I am threatened by them he is a very nasty person. They have put all there old patio furniture large tool cabinet and rubbish out there. I’m a 62 year old man living alone, they are a lot younger then me. I need help, what can I do.
Abi 27/07/2020 at 10:24 pm
My situation is a bit different to some of yours. Moved into the property a year ago and this new neighbour moved in feb and she has two children who live above us.
She is different ethnicity and has tries to use the language as a barrier however she speaks perfect English. Her children are jumping of furniture as is cracking my ceiling and they are running and shouting at 2,3,4,5 am and we hear them bright as day.
I work within the healthcare system and deal with medication and I need to be alert and focused when it comes to my job.
I am not getting sleep and she doesn’t even ask her children to stop, it gets to the point I can’t even hear myself think and it makes me really ill some days, I just cry because I have had enough.
Her answer to the problems at the beginning was keep complaining I want a house, and hopefully she will get moved.
Now when I try to talk to her and knock on her door to ask them to please either quiten down so I can sleep, she calls the police saying she feels threatened and she doesn’t want to be here; I then have the police at the door and it’s becoming a joke, the council won’t do anything and say I have to put up with it.
I’m stuck on what to do, I can’t even try and house swap because they will stand in my front room for 10 minutes and be disgusted and will not want to live here.

Hi,
Sorry to all suffering like me.
I have a huge problem as I have a neighbour that excessively & repeatedly drinks most of the day as well as throughought the night.

I am severely disabled & have suffered 11 months of drunken targetted abuse, which extended to my visitors.

I was having to leave my property due to my neighbour in the flat above stamping banging excessively all night depriving me of any sleep whilst in chronic pain. This happens repeatedly & I am left unable to sleep. I had my gate kicked through & all sorts. I feel unsafe & scared and am unable to protect myself from this.

Sadly four months of logs to council, reports to Police and this problem is still as bad. On referring it to ASBT I ended up with them disputing things with me whilst I have been through hell.

It is with my MP but that as well caused a dispute, no one wants to help at all. I have been locked in for months not daring to go out to try & avoid the neighbours. They freely come & go as they like.

I despair & wonder why me being left like this is ok. I have issued a complaint.

Government should lift evictions for people like this. My neighbour was supposed to be out April & I have had to report damage to my ceilings, I believe are due to impact. All authorities are aware.

I went out to give a visitor something they had forgot & my neighbour was barging towards me in an aggressive manner, I told my visitor I had to go due to Social distancing rules but she ignored what I said & continued barging at me, knowing I am struggling with mobility.

Sick from her window amid Covid left discarded on the floor. I do not believe any action has been taken.

11 months of ongoing hell.

I can't see any light at all.

Sympathies to all suffering similarly.

Revving engines constantly
Loud music

Running drugs day and night all hours
Yet nothing is done

Yeah I fully understand and agree with you as I'm dealing with my unruly neighbour and her child, which they seem to think they can say or do anything and there's no consequences. Very good liars and pretending there the victims. We live in the same block so the situation is very tense. At my wits end. Hoping police will me with this. ????

Some teenagers moved into a flat below me and were playing loud music every night around 11pm to 1am.I put up with it for ages but then made a complaint to my council and they wrote them a letter. This was in feburary. I didnt feel i could approach them as they were always shouting and swearing and i am a single mum to an 8 year old (who was always being woken up by this music). The music stopped for a while and everything was fine. Since the lockdown another person has joined them. They have started shouting and screaming (this is 2 months after the complaint) and saying that i do things to them. They have also involved another neighbour from upstairs (who also put in a complaint about these teenagers at the same time). This neighbour i would say is vunerable and has special needs. They all stand outside saying nasty things about me which are not true. My daughter is now having bad dreams about something happening to me although i have always tried to distract her while they are saying things. I have been keeping all my windows and doors shut in this heat just so we dont have to listen to them. I do have some evidence of the nastiness but just wondered how much evidence would it take for anyone to do something about it? I just cant cope any more, i feel like a prisoner in my own home, i also have an older daughter who is 28 and she is doing all my shopping and having to take my dog out for a walk as i feel i cant walk past their flat.

Hi,

We live in our own house. We are surrounded by tenants. The first reason for them to be against us is for the very fact that we own a house. With lot of struggles and hardships we built our home but these two families are literally behind us.They keep track of our movements, any noise from our home, visitors, always looking out for us,passing wierd comments, staring us and also they spoke very mean and bad things about us to other neighbours because of which nobody is speaking with us.They all have turned against us and these people are frauds. They do all sorts of cheap things but people support them,They keep lying ,secrets and secrets. They pretend to be good people but actually they are very bad people. They try to listen to what we speak or do.I feel that we have lost all our privacy, could someone please advice

Where to start...Neighbours moved down from up north somewhere in Dec 2019...and OMG..it was lovely property..in the last 4 months or so its turned in to steptoe and sons knackers yard.
Both back and front gardens are a tipping ground for anything and everything...
They continue to shout abuse at each other the language is colourful for sure...
They kid just screams all day..
Neither of them work apart from going to the store to get chips and cigarettes...Now with this Covid19 lockdown...week last Thursday this other couple pitched up even though they shouldn't be travelling at all they have been staying there so there are already 4 adults in the house a day later another car turned up and a family if 4 piled out the suit cases and backpacks..
So this is 6 adults and 5 kids...in a 2 bed house f-ing and blinding every 2 seconds...screaming kids a dog they never take out all the while everyone else is following the lockdown they are having parties and bbq's..
The landlord cant even get into the property because of the lock down...to top it all off they all pilled into 2 cars and went to the beach for the day..they dont care they do what they like when they like not even the cops are interested...
Over the weekend they decided to have a bonfire, which are forbidden atm...the flames were 6 feet high...didn't give a monkeys uncle to the distress they are causing the elderly neighbours...
We are powerless to do anything they are not approachable..told one if my other neighbours to FO and mind ur own...
I'm sure they are dealing but we have no proof...those kids must be at risk in this environment for sure...its heartbreaking... they think the lockdown rules dont apply to them..they speed up the road..music blaring trying to look cool..
I'm afraid to say it But....I'm worried about everyone's safety....you don8t come here for a 3 week holiday In the middle of a lockdown...god knows where these people have come from, if they are Infected or carrying the virus...
More needs to be done to protect vulnerable neighbours..
The cops dont give R.A.

Michael Huke moved in next door, he fell out with all his new neighbours, I/we tried to be friends, eventually he was so bad to other neighbours that we disassociated with him, he commenced a vendetta against us including false accusations, attacking my 70 year old father for parking momentarily outside his house, shouting verbal abuse, videoing us within our premises, the police conceded there was little they could do as he was a senior Lloyd's Banker, they, plus the local authority placed an order on him to cease but that has had little effect. His antics have been posted on YouTube under 'Michael Huke Lloyd's Banker' and 'Bankers Behaving Badly'. Should you view these videos you'll wonder how he's kept his job.vsr eb s

I am a single mother to a wonderfull happy and creative 5 yod , all I want is to raise my daughter in peace and quiet not bothered by other people's dramas. I have just gotten out of an abusive relationship hence the need to live drama free.
My neighbor on my left has screamed and shouted at us since the 1st week of moving in a year ago . I have made complaints to the estate , antisocial behaviour team the council with no help. Then on Easter a new neighbor moves in the right side of me and she is a known trouble maker with bi-polar which should not be an excuse for her rude and aggressive behaviour , she has called the child social services on me with fake complaints do to the nature of the complaints and the fact I cought her hiding while I had a visit from child protection I know it was her , i was advised by the council the police and locals that i should inform the estate managing my property , so i did and now we are being evicted ! Yhe victim has suddenly become the perpetrator " how " I contacted our local MP ross Douglas and I haven't heard anything back since he said he would look into it , I'm to be evicted in 2 weeks and no one is helping us !!! The council keep sending me to appointments back and forth with people who dont come prepared dont know the facts of my desperate situation nor do they listen or ask the right questions they just remind me if the time where they have to be. I'm homeless in 12 days and they couldn't care less. What can I do , where can I get help somebody must know something ??? I'm desperate as you my image. I am sick of other people dramas why cant they just leave us alone so I can focus on my child and rebuild my life .

There is a book which has really shed light on my situation and I share it as it may significantly help others. My ex Londoner neighbours moved to our beautiful seaside city in NZ and have tormented many. My husband and I are the last original neighbours left at our end of a quiet cul-de-sac on a hill overlooking the Tasman Sea. He is a dirty peeping Tom and she is a very aggressive, scary, abusive woman. Both retired, both obsessed with getting into everyone's lives and then lying and trying to destroy those individuals who shun them for their mentally ill behaviour. I think what many of us are dealing with are sociopaths. Apparently 1 in every 25 people are sociopaths. They are excellent actors, liars and enjoy destroying other people. "The Sociopath Next Door" by Martha Stout (also available as an audiobook) is extremely excellent. It opened my eyes to exactly what I am dealing with. These people are very dangerous indeed and also very good at picking their victims. I for one have been an open, agreeable, trusting person in the past but thanks to these neighbours I am a very different person. To know the warning signs are incredibly valuable to your mental health. I only wish I was armed with this knowledge when these revolting people moved in. I'm sure London held a massive party when they left!

I have experienced everything that you have all spoken about on here, on and off for year's.
What I would like say is this. Why are we putting up with it and such poor service off the Council (EH)
Housing Associations. Police. Why? Is it not about time somebody put their heads above the parapet
and took this out and into the World Wide Web in our respective countries. If we are all suffering so much
as we are, then let's lobby the Government to listen to us.
Meme 06/08/2019 at 5:21 pm
Ive been suffering from mental issues for many years , i moved into a cottage flat in august 2018 with a band 1 domestic violence, on moving ere i really fort it would of been a fresh day , the neighbours have taken a real dislike to me , the past years the lies shes told the housing is unreal , im making noise in my sleep cause its al late at night , i no ive not made it , the housing are not listening to me , the solicitor isnt and my support worker isnt , going to court yesterday, it clearly shows the court didnt cause ive got a injunction saying not t make any noise ( im angry cause i didnt make any noise) if i break the injunction i can pay 5000 pound fine and go prison , shes gonna lie and keep telling them i was making the noise , ive asked and begged them for the black box to prove im not making the noise but yet they wont give me one , im at the end of my days with this , never have a neigbour so horrible has horrible and evil has this i really dont no wot to do any more , if i end it , then shes won

My neighbours have now resorted to lying and even saying we have been swearing(cursing)even shouting at us. They have also recorded a conversation which was heated between my husband and my son. How rude. I have told the neighbour that we should put it behind us. I still get a nasty spiteful vibe from her and see her standing gossiping where we can see her. I've had enough, but I'm now just going to say hello and act jolly. I can't be bothered anymore,my health is not good.
Now what?!? 24/07/2019 at 3:44 pm
So some neighbours moved in around 8 years ago and our household have been cordial with theirs, Christmas cards, wed watch their home whilst on holiday and vice Versa and so far as fix their computer for free and give up our car space when they had overseas visitors, returning the 5 plus Balls that get thrown into our rear garden and even stop our dog from playing with their balls that land in our garden . We do lead different lives but share the same street, our household works full time and theirs is a stay at home kind. At Easter we renovated our front garden, (it’s not shared access) and since that time the neighbours allow their kids to play on our Newly renovated garden but they don’t play on theirs. Having asked them verbally to stop, nothing happened and having returned home from a 13 hour day, to find fresh damage. Being too late to knock their door and the next morning I started too early to knock, I thought if I left it, all the time and money I spent would be looking bad. So I left a kind note. I (stupidly) expected minimum ‘it won’t happen again’ or at best for them to at least talk to their kids. No they reply with car blocking/ kids now purposely turning the hose on spraying over our 6 foot fence onto our decking or back door and Random objects like pencils now on our decking been thrown in. Oh and they totally ignore us now. I don’t want to attack parents, but is this how parents teach their kids to respect people these days?
Emma 04/07/2019 at 12:07 am
I've had issues with neighbours below me for two years. She moved in on her own with her child, and then he moved in after. Things got off on a bad foot when I challenged him about his drug use in our shared garden. He was making weed joints in front of the kids on a big tray and smoking them around them. This was in the summer. By winter they were smoking it inside. The weed smell was coming up through our floor and every room in our home smelled strongly of weed, so bad that my partner's ex stopped letting him have his kids over. Of course, we asked politely for them to stop but it made no difference. He is in his 30s but he had no problem with showing my then teenage daughter pictures of naked women on his phone. He was coming on to her, and when she rebuked him things took a very sour turn. Our neighbour slapped my daughter hard on the bottom as she walked past him to go into our home one day. A row erupted where my neighbour came at my partner with his child in his arm and grabbed my partner by the throat, then cried out that my partner had assaulted him. Police became involved. I reported everything that had been happening to our housing association. They didn't want to get involved and even lied about an alleged video that our neighbour said he had of my partner intimidating him so that they didn't have to take further action. Police said nothing they could do. one word against another. We had reported the smell of cannabis more than 150 times to the police but they still persisted in smoking drugs in the flat below us. This seemed to be having a bad effect on their child who is under 5 years old, He would have terrible rages and be up running about and screaming til 2 am sometimes. In the end we contacted our local council who sent them a warning. The neighbour took offence to that and hit my partner in the face outside our flats. Thankfully this time I got it on camera. He is being charged with assault in the next few days. But now, he has resorted to recording our every move. Even recording with his phone into my kitchen window and hiding behind bushes listening to us outside. He has set up situations to cause annoyance or upset and gone to the police with these videos saying we are intimidating him. But we aren't....I don't know what to do :-(

I have neighbours who are mother and daughter around late 30s and around mid 50s. They have a dog themselves who barks a lot during the night as I am outside in the sleepout and can hear it almost every night and I have never complained because dogs do bark and I get that. They complain about our 2 dogs to the council around once or twice a week for barking and she said howling but however I’m home everyday and my dogs do not bark only when there is someone at the gate or when someone is around the property they are unsure of. They are only protecting their property. Then about 2 weeks ago my 4 nieces were jumping on the trampoline having fun and being kids so they were making a bit of noise but kids are kids and make noise from time to time. I walked into the house for 2 minutes and they yelled from across the fence to my oldest niece who is 10 might I add to “knock it off, when I came outside my 10 year old niece was scared to even tell me what our nasty neighbour had said. That pissed me right off and they didn’t need to do that. They waited for me to go inside cause they knew if they said something while I was there I would have been pissed. They have taken our dog rocco to the pound and said our dogs are melnorished and aren’t looked after but when the council came over and had a look our dogs were perfectly looked after and they had no problem with how the dogs are. Keep in mind also no one else complains about our dogs apart from them. We asked our other neighbours if they have problems with our dogs and they said not at all, they occasionally bark when someone’s near but it keeps them weary of what’s around them. I’ve had enough and this has gone on since we moved into this house which has been almost 3 years. I’m sick of it and they’re just nasty people.

Having experienced terrible neighbours for most of my life, and those same experiences caused the death of my father by stroke .in my case I turned my neighbour s greed against themselves and set them up for a self made fall,I distanced myself from them and they spent the remainder of their lives fighting amongst themselves .i started my new life still living in the same place as my ancestors, since early 1700s, and they didn't dare bother me again.bullies don't use their brains, use yours to beat them.

I have had bad neighbours for years, the torment we get from their 14 yr old is unbelievable, he's had my daughter assaulted by his friend , my car damaged, the mum can't control him , they have social work involved , and have made horrible accusations about my husband, and he's been officially charged by the law, the police won't do anything with this young teen, I'm at the end of my tether, any advice would be grateful.

I had a bad aggressive neighbor for more than ten years. I had threats of violence and name calling. I tried a softly, softly approach to him by being polite and curtiouse, but none of this worked. After two years of verbal abuse I offered him the opportunity of a punch up. He declined. So fair enough I left it at that. Then after a while he started again. So once more I suggested he have a real go at me with his fists, and he took the opportunity. Only to find out I don't use my fists. Instead I through him on his back in judo style. After that he made some stories up about me making too much noise at night (even tho we both lived in detached houses) and told the coppers. This went on for about 8 years with regular visits from the law. Eventually he was caught out by the police about the lies he was making up. His wife ( I believe is the gaffer ) wasn't too pleased with him. And the following month they had house up for sale. They have now moved.
Always stand up to bad neighbours never give in. Let them know that they're walking into a brick wall with you. But only if you've done nothing wrong.

Ive lived in a council flat since November 2016
Its a block of 4 and i understand its easy to hear noise but i feel like im living with a loud noisy aggressive bully on my doorstep.
Ever since ive moved in ive had trouble with him, i keepe myself to myself and i have tried to ignore him but i suffer with depression and the situation is making me ill and i dont want to be in my own home.
He was blasting music so loud at all times of day, sometimes you could hear it right up the street....so i eventually complained to noise nuisance.
He knew it was me because i had words with him on one ocassion.
After noise nuisance went he was very agressive shouting out the window swearing at me which i ignored, was staring at me out of the window and in his garden when i would go out trying to be intimidating.
On most days i could hear him agressively screaming, swearing at his girlfriend, running up and down stairs, banging and slamming doors.
Other things such as lighting fireworks outside my bedroom window and laughing.
His dog barking for hours, leaving its mess outside my front door.
Well a few months ago he disappeared suddenly and i thought he had thank god left the property.
I started to consider staying in my flat and feel more comfortable.
However hes only been back one day and already had screaming, swearing, doors banging etc.
I did tell my housing officer once but she didnt seem very interested.
I dont feel i can approach him due to him clearly finding what he does funny and the aggressive behaviour.
Im scared of the reprisals to myself and my property i live alone and im sick of it all.

Samantha, install a basic phone cctv to show the behaviour and then contact the police on 101 and suggest your the victim of doorbell robbery, but you’ve managed to keep them at bay so far.

can’t sleep, I point you to the Antosocial Behviour Act. I’m guessing it’s the noise so both council and police are required to act (no pun intended) orders Edit

Part IA of the Act ("Premises associated with persistent disorder or nuisance") was inserted by Section 118 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, and came into force in December 2008. Known as a Part 1A Closure Order or Antisocial Behaviour Closure Order[4][5] the new Sections 11A-11L of the 2003 Act permit the police or local authority to apply to Magistrates to close premises where they are satisfied that within the preceding three months[6] the premises have been associated with "significant and persistent disorder or persistent serious nuisance to members of the public."[7] The order can be made in respect of business or residential premises.[8] Similar to the Part 1 Order (Crack House Closure Order), it becomes an offence to remain in or re-enter the premises for the duration of the order.[9]

You may be surprised to find your Council has the power to ask a court to order the, not to return. My longest order was 6 months

I have an actual rogue landlord who has gotten away with so much by our london borough council. I have complained to them and my local mp who actually said i was using her as a pawn in a game and not to contact her again my upstairs neighbours are drug dealers carry knives and have very dodgy friends coming round ringing my bell at all hours of the day and night. As a single mum it is terrifying to have a group of guys demanding to be let in at 1.2. 3am etc. The council literally just refer me to their web pages on anti social behaviour my other neighbours moved and i feel so scared and isolated.

Hi. We have new neighbour upstairs (council flat). Since end of dec-2016 we have problems with them. We reported them for loud music, damage of the property, harasement, verbal abuse. In reward they called police to say that my partner beat guy up and reported him for claiming career benefits although he is in full time job. Other day they called police saying we cut their antena cable on the roof.
We had to install cctv systems to protect ourselfs from them so police could see that they are making up the storys.
Council (bristol) do not react, they are changing workers alocated to the case. Envirental Healt Department, Noise Pollution, Comunity Trigger, no one cartes. They just tell us fill diarys. We sending diarys, cctv footage, pictures. But they are keep saying they dont have it even some of the paper work been handed hand to hand. Police saying that they cannot prosecute them for damage to the property.
When we asked Noise Polution for recording device to prove how loud is the music they send us letter litterally telling us 'its pointless'.
We went thrue mediation but it didnt solved anything. They said they are planning to do more damage to our property. Now, guy upstairs is doing some work and he keep door open so the dust goes down on staircase and into our flat.
Council trully do not help, they do not even want to help. As one of the prevoius council workers said to me on the phone 'ms Drew i will not help you', so we end up with another one.
I am trying to find some solicitior who could help but its impossible. Whenever i rang someone they say that they do not deal with neighhbour disputes.
We still must wait few more months before we contact Ombudsman, again.
Disgruntled 26/06/2018 at 1:17 am
Although I'm sure your site has noble intentions; it doesn't seem to offer any truly effective advice aside from conventional sources such as Citizens advice and environmental health etc: both are over stressed and under funded "government band aids" for the 'gaping wound of anti social loutish behaviour' from an increasingly feral populace; who realise that there are very few dire consequences to their actions. I blame political correctness and the compensation culture borne of it.

Ongoing problems with semi detached new neightbour. Lasytyear he used my end gutter to supplement his rear roof extension rainfall drainage. Just recently he built an ugly porch with pitched roof at front and today noticed that a down pipe inside a rain butt was ri.ght by our boudary in the middle of the 2 houses. Shortly afterwards I realised that he had sloped his new guttering instead of towards the end at the side as before, he had sloped it towards me thus directing the rain in the opposite direction than before again to make my guttering take most of is rain when we have a storm/peltdown. His guttering is small too. When his water butt overflows it will flow over to my side as I am lower than him.

The poster who wondered if 20" was far enough away from neighbours fence, my NFH built a 6'long summer house on raised land towering above my 24 year-old shed and used my shed side as his fence panel. on the boundary and said my shed was too near.
Unbelievable but true.

My partner and I have a mortgage on a ground floor converted flat (originally built 1950's). New tenants moved in upstairs two months ago and we immediately noticed the increased noise levels (kids jumping on the very squeaky bed or drumming on the radiator at 06:00am.)
We spoke to the tenant who unfortunately didn't speak English and, as the noise levels did not decrease, we assumed it was a communication barrier and spoke to the Landlord's managing agent, asking them to explain to the tenant about the noise. Shortly afterwards, we were approached outside our front door by the tenant and a woman who claimed she didn't live in the flat but that she was his sister living in the area, she demanded, quite aggressively at first, to know why we had called the managing agent. We explained our reasons and thought they understood our concerns but the noise problem still persists today.
About 2 weeks into the new tenancy, we noticed an increase of strangers walking past our bathroom window towards the entrance of their house. We are now convinced that they are housing multiple lodgers without the landlords knowledge, we have raised another complaint with the managing agency but want to know what are rights are with regards to:
1 - the shared drain and who would have to pay for any issues with regards to increased use of washing machine and utilities upstairs
2 - the constant noise affecting our ability to enjoy our home, we are both so frustrated and angry it's now affecting our mental health
3 - any loss of investment if we are forced to sell the flat early
4 - intimidation, based on their reaction to our first complaint I don't trust them to act rationally to any action we take. I am also scared to go into my garden in case I bump into their group of lodgers
5 - Would building insurance be affected if there are more tenants living upstairs than listed in the lease? Building insurance for all properties on the road are handled through the freehold's managing agent.

Have you tried the steps recommended in the above article? What was the outcome?
ProblemNeighbours Editor 01/05/2018 at 11:19 am
If the noise becomes really bad and is often at unsociable times, you could try contacting your environmental health department for advice. If you're concerned about the children's welfare, you could try social services.

Hello I don't know what to do about my neighbours she has been living there a couple of years now and it's been hell she has to young kids that she leaves crying constantly and I never get any sleep then get woke up early hours by crying babies and her slamming and banging about playing music while her babies cry in the background it's just constant noise and it's got worse since we got into a argument about the constant noise and she just gave me a load of abuse and excuses she told me to get used to it screamed and shouted at me got in my face with threatening behaviour there is just no reasoning with her and now she intimates me all the time gives me funny looks and her family and friends join in to it's been going on since November 2017 which is when we had words and she still isn't looking after her kids and she just slammes around her house all the time and I know she's doing it on purpose because it was never this bad before I spoke to her about it I don't know what to do I feel miserable and it's really affecting me I really want her to move she also has another child she looks after from time to time and they all just run riot running around the house all day she just let's them do what they want what shall I do ?

The problem with my neighbour may seem trivial compared to some but it is making me ill. To start with we got on well and used to chat when in the garden. However, over the last couple of years she has become incredibly over familiar to the point that I have no privacy. She has a drink problem and drinks to excess at least once a week, coming home shouting and playing music, sometimes till 4am or later. She has often sat outside her front door until 7am drinking. Until last year there was no fence between our gardens (it is her boundary) and she would regularly come into the garden uninvited, open the back door and call to us uninvited and on a couple of occassions come into the house when no one was there. Every time I went outside she would be there, often drunk, often obnoxious not just to me but to my step sons. No matter what I said or did, she wouldn't get the hint and leave me alone, even when we would tell her directly to go home. It was so bad that I wouldn't go in my own garden for fear of her being there. In the end we insisted that a fence was put up, which her partner at the time did. However, last summer, a week or so after the fence was put up, she cut a window sized hole in it so that, in her words, she could talk to me. Now every time I go in the garden her head pokes through the hole and she starts. I have absolutely no privacy in my own garden. Today we put up a small shed in the place where the hole is, so she can't see through. I could hear her muttering about it in the garden and now I'm terrified she's going to take the fence down or cut another hole in it. She knows I suffer from anxiety and depression so why won't she leave me alone?

Hi,

My neighbour has initiated workmen to erect a 7 foot fence beyond the boundary wall between our houses. We do not want this and feel like she is boxing us in. What can we do?

Thanks

Neighbour switches washing machine on and off to permanent spin every night
until early hours of the morning
She tells the council, she is home all day, there's no need to do washing
in the evenings
It's getting on my nerves and my partner's
he does shift work, he has heard the machine 5 am when he's been getting
ready for work
Her and her son who lives with her bang the doors
she says she has to hang them to shut them
She doesn't do any maintenance to her property
She had big hole in her fence, there was no privacy
Her fence is none existing
I put a fence up on my side
She's got this over grown hedgeing, it grows over my border
I then put a three for trellis on top her hedging is growing brought the trellis
her hedgeing split my new fence panel, I went through my house insurance
to claim against her. She ignores letters, she makes up a load of lies
went to a solicitor told him I smeared dog excrement on her garage, I threw
eggs in her garden, the solicitor bought her story
this was her way of getting out of paying for my new fence panel
that her hedging damaged
Years ago she called the police and said my husband follows her
my husband had broken pelvis and ankles he was on crutches, couldn't walk
For three years we use to pay out for a professional gardener to trim her hedging
back to her border, she told her solicitor she was happy for us to do that
What neighbour cuts your hedging three times a year
to get accused of smearing dog excrement on their garage
throwing eggs , We don't cut her urge now after all what she has said
It looks a sight I keep my garden nice , hers is like a tip
She don't put rubbish out for collection
It's stored down the side of her property
when she feels like it she takes it to he dump
If I could pick up my house and move it
I would go tomorrow
I've never lived next door to a neighbour like it
who don't do maintenance, don't do gardening
don't put rubbish out
She is a neighbour from Hell

Make another complaint (to the police), you may need to go back to the courts with this one unfortunately.
Tiko102 20/11/2017 at 9:07 am
We have had issues with my neighbour to the point he has attacked me twice in front of our children, we took him to court gained compensation and a two year restraining order, he has now started banging on the walls throwing things at the wall slamming doors early hours of the morning is this classed as intimidation thanks
ProblemNeighbours Editor 25/09/2017 at 2:54 pm
You should check you title deeds to confimr that nothing prevents this but generally, as long as the shed is on your side of the boundary, the neighbour cannot object about its distance from the fence. Note that planning rules state that outbuildings must have a maximum eaves height of 2.5 metres if they are to be sited within two metres of a boundary.
del 23/09/2017 at 7:49 am
next door as complianed that my shed is to close to there fence and making it damp my shed is 20inches from there fence is this distance ok

Without getting charge mischief or other offrnce.with mental health issues going and I kinda think the police see more neibour and of course I know they just trying resolve issues. Is only stopping but mostly at night and even and sometimes or mostly middle or part. They make more fights with us not in the house and how deal with this issue. Either I tried to call a lawyer in case and they started with another compliance and may lead to more likely lies. I have case worker to consult or lawyer about it too.
Dark213 30/04/2017 at 4:44 pm
I had issues with other side neibour tries to install some tracking device to make more disbiance and how properly report it. With getting charge with mischief or other on thinking to use the concern as their family on useless daily base. Act very aggorgant and never. Just now on family and we all decided sell the house. How deal with noise and overly compliance unreaso and without accused of offence.
ProblemNeighbours Editor 26/04/2017 at 1:54 pm
If a polite word has not been successful, all you can consider next is to take legal action in relation to the criminal damage, or to fence your garden more securely to stop her getting in.
Holland 25/04/2017 at 12:11 pm
I have a garden, which is etched in red provided with my plans, have spent quite a bit of money, new fencing, pebbled area. A neighbor always her daughter to run over, throwing pebbles everywhere, she also stood on a table I have outside and broke the leg off, this should have been replaced by them, have spoken to mother and all I got was abuse. I am much, much older than her, also own my house and she rents, wonder what I can do?
ProblemNeighbours Editor 11/04/2017 at 9:54 am
Unfortunately if they are unwilling to agree to mediation, there's no a lot you can do. Do you have any help with your own children in terms of trying to keep them calm and avoiding the melt downs? If you neighbours are Housing Association tenants too, we think the HA should be able to take more action than they've done so far.
Kel 09/04/2017 at 2:03 am
Hi there, really need some good advice.I have 3 children with special needs and sometimes they tend to have the occasional meltdown which can involve slot of shouting and banging. They can not help this and i always try my hardest to calm them down. When my children are going through these meltdown's the neighbours are banging and shouting and swearing through the wall which makes the situation even worst as it makes my kids more anxious. They have been complaining for about 5 years now and the stress from this has resulted in myself and my kids trying to find a new home and has also resulted in my taking antidepressants. The housing association suggested mediation between myself and them but they were unwilling to participate. My three kids all have autism and high anxiety problems. My youngest daughter has an obsession with footballs as they calm her down. But for the past few week my daughter has accidentally thrown balls over my neighbours fence and the neighbours never returned them. Was in the garden today and my daughter is crying her eyes out because she saw the neighbours playing with all her balls. The neighbours could hear her crying but just started laughing at her. This made me so angry and the protective mother inside me came out and i shouted and swore at them. I really do not no what to do anymore. Advice would be great.

Wow, what a platform for racist views (Lily).. Disrespectful behaviour isn't culture-specific and totally get the frustration, but unnecessary for instructions to "go back" anywhere. If anyone should go back, it's the bigots exhibit ignorance and blame others - they need to go back under the rock they came from!!

We live next door to a person who screams at her kids all the time using bad language, and a nosy busybody who sends passive-aggressiveness notes through the door following her nosy ear-wigging about work we MIGHT want to do on our house. The nosy one slams doors, has loud parties until the early hours, parks 5 cars when she only has space for 1, does DIY on a Sunday evening (??!) and then has the nerve to express her "disappontment" when we say anything about it - bringing up historic work on our house years .....

Emotionally dishonest, disrespectful people who want to control and bully others because they think they run the street...!

Response to Intimidated.

I'm guessing your neighbors are Asian Indian? I completely understand where you're coming from.

I am a single woman living alone too. My Asian Indian neighbors are from Hell.

Prying into my life, intimidating and stressing me out with the constant fee stomping, banging on my walls, and slamming the front door ever so often till late at night.

The children don't sleep till midnight every night, so they're constantly jumping violently, kicking the walls. The parents don't bother teaching them to show respect to their neighbors.

The wife keeps competing with me in dressing and hairstyle. So much so, that she's turning into my clone. Even got the same car brand and model as me.

The husband talks down to me whenever he catches me outside my rented town home, and is always trying to make me feel like he/they are far better off than me monetarily, and any other way he can think of.

So you can see now, what Envious people they are.

I am so tired and disgusted of them.

Go back to India !!

Hi, I have a problem with my downstairs neighbours who complains too much..we have just moved in a maisonette above theirs. On the first day we moved in, we noticed they have moved our bins and taken our spot from where the former owners of our house usually kept them. Then a week ago we had a very rude visit from them because I turned on the hoover at 9:30pm, admittedly I may be at fault with that but has started throwing accusations that we run our washing machine at all hours and every night, which was totally untrue as I only do my washing in the morning.. then last night we were watching tv which was turned to the lowest possible volume, we even have subtitles on because some words can't be heard properly when we heard them thumping on their ceiling which was our floor. That was only 10:30 in the evening. I don't know what to do anymore these past few days we have been trying to live as quietly as possible and with a toddler at that. But there's no pleasing them. I feel intimidated it's causing me a lot of stress.. it feels like we're not allowed to live a normal life. I need help dealing with bullying neighbours. Please advice me on what to do

You should complain to the police about the assault obviously. It's worth having a word with their landlord about the other issues. Try some cat deterrents to keep the cats out of your garden.

i can empathise with each and every one of you having been through it myself unless you have lived through the hell i dont think you can quite understand how anxious and depressed and even suicidal it can make you. the neighbour above me would play loud rap music sometimes up to 12 hours a day my walls would vibrate if he wasnt doing that it was loud computer games that sounded like thunder in my flat then he would have friends roud at midnight shouting then he would put the washing machine on spin at 3am as well as putting food and even human excrement on my doormat and shouting abuse at me in the street. i had another neighbour stalking me who would ring the buzer and tap and glair in my door at 5 minute intervals sometimes for hours at a time he would talk into my letterbox and i had to put a lock on the letterbox but that didnt stop him. i told the housing association they were not interested and environmental heath did serve a noise abatment notice on the one upstairs but it didnt stop him and they didnt seem to want to do anything further to help me. i was scared to leave my flat and fearfull of both of them as i had the stalker creep up behind me on a number of occasions saying will i come and have a drink with him! well after 2 years of this hell i went to the police a nervous wreck they could see this although i have to say the noise problem they were not really interested in but the stalking they were. they got in touch with my housing association and i got moved within 3 months. but the housing would not have taken any notice if the police didnt tell them to move me. so all i can say is dont expect the council or housing association to take much notice of noise problems if you can get the police to take notice of you then you may have a chance. but like i say it was the neigbour that was stalking me that got me away from my sociopath neighbours.
i have to add that when i went to police i had recorded this stalker knocking on my door and shouting in my letterbox if i hadnt i dont think they would have done much. unfortunatly they were not able to prosecute him as the glass in my door is frosted so they wouldnt have been able to prove it was him although they knew it was! so if you can get an video evidence to prove what is happening that will help as you cant rely on the council or housing associations to help you im afraid.

For years my neighbours & I were friendly but they have five cats living outdoors who kill all the birds in my garden. I've not complained about the damage to plants over the years, peeing right by my doors so I had to buy stones, doing their business in my flower beds or that one cat injured my dog's eye and it cost me nearly a thousand pounds to treat. I couldn't rest for fear the cats would kill again,

I got to a point where the distress caused by the cats continually slaughtering on my property and my having to look after injured birds made me angry enough to ask them to try and keep their pets in at dawn and dusk so I could get some peace. I tried this nicely, explaining I love animals but told them the dead birds were theirs to dispose of not mine. They swore at me, told me I was mad (among other things) and pushed me off their doorstep after all the years of being neighbourly.

Recently I got fed up as two bird corpses came over the fence so I gave them back. The neighbours came over to my property and began an abusive, rude rant that escalated into my being grabbed around the throat, pushed around, kicked and hit on the chin. They were scary women and totally rude.

They are tenants on the property. Do I have any recourse to complain to someone about the physical, if not vocal, abuse? I am concerned for myself and my own pets. I should note I have two indoor cats who do not enter their property.

Thank you

Hi
My neighbour has become involved with my ex husband and is intimidating me. The first thing he did was take my children twice and wouldn't let me see them. I called the police.
On Sunday something was thrown at my bedroom window twice by the time I found a torch to look out I just saw his door opening and closing. Yesterday I walked outside my front door he was at my front gate on the road staring at me.
There is an order for my ex husband not to intimidate me so I believe he is getting his friend to do it.

My neighbours have been verbal abusive for years. The mother mannerism, language and persona is aggressive and her adult daughter is the same but a lot more backward and immature. Their girlfriends are equally bad or worse. They film, shout at my children from their window. They thrown rubbish in our garden. The are loud in their own garden, with foul language. We are surrounded by eldery residence. They have no consideration or respect for other people. When they hear us in our garden it's intimation from the start. They lie and make out we are harressing them to the police. The go on social media talking about abusing my children and how fun this will be. Now they are verbally abusing my children in the street. Before its always been in the back garden where there was safety with the fence. Now the step over the boundary and doing it where there is no safety. Been to police and housing association but no one wants to know. I feel their next step will be physical and I fear they will hurt my children. Why do people like y his walk this earth.
Intimidated 28/08/2016 at 2:35 pm
I moved into a new home about a year ago which I own. The house next door was sold as a buy to let and an Asian family moved in about 4 months ago and commenced to make my peaceful life a misery. I started off by taking in parcel after parcel from them without even knowing who they where. When they finally knocked, they made me feel like I was taking advantage of their goods(?) They produce an enormous amount of rubbish and utilised my bins so that I can no longer leave them in the communal area but have to lock them in my garden. They had the phone put in and mine was dismantled in the process. They continually block access to my drive. They wash up outside the front door and throw the dirty water down the air vent at the side of the house and an hour before it started, they thought to tell me there was going to be a huge wedding held over a two day period this past bank holiday w/e. The noise was such that I had to find somewhere else to stay and fight my way through all their guests crammed into the communal entrance way to the two houses. To say I feel intimidated with all the carryings on would put it mildly. I feel they are taking advantage of the fact that I am elderly and live on my own. Any ideas what I can do to encourage them to stay in their own property and not take any more liberties?

Hi, does anyone have any advice about stopping 4-5 neighbor mums gathering under my window every day with kids swimming pool and noisy 7-8 kids of different age? Quite often they play loud music too however not for a long time. But constant kids screeming for 5-7 hours every day is unbearable. I asked them to move that swimming pool elsewhere but all I got was blank stares.. Other neighbors already complained to council but they didn't do much (Can they actually do anything?). What rights do I have and is it possible to make that area unpleasant for them to gather without breaching the law? Thanks
Thaddeus 04/08/2016 at 4:09 am
I have a neighbor like yours but way worse. If a neighbor keeps it up get them on camera. Hire an attorney put them in a Tort Civil suit. My neighbor has been a persistent thorn in my side for 15 years
Maybe in your case you should threaten physical harm directly to the Neighbors Cat directly privately. I have a friend who threatened a neighbors cat. I nearly died laughing but the cat stopped and his wife confirmed the story

My partner and I live in leeds, his neighbours however are just mental. We can't Hoover up on a morning 9, 10 or sometimes 11 but its his routine , their renting from a landlord . ( a landlord what doesent care who lives in his property) giving it to druggie after druggie after druggie. We are currently involved with the ASB team but they seem to be more on their side than ours , they make false accusations simply because theirve obviously nothing better to do with their lives, up all night smoking dope , dog rough looking dealers and family members going knocking for money and smack , I do feel sorry for them because I think all they want is love but dont have it from their family's but its not our fault that they don't have it. We just want to live the life we like without any aggro. Specially with them sending men with bats to the door and screaming abuse at the walls. We've told friends and theirve been like oh id knock them clean out but we aren't violent people so we wouldent give them the satisfaction. The council are useless , but one day we'll bid on Leeds homes and win a property what's even better for us . That's what you've gotta think I suppose. And theirll move on to whoever moves in after probably , hopefully the new tenants have a kid with temper tantrums and wakes them up haha. Karma will come . It always does
ProblemNeighbours Editor 21/06/2016 at 2:03 pm
Have social services done anything? Does the council know about the social services' involvement? Who is your landlord? Can they do anything/contact the council on your behalf? Contact your local councillor and see if they can help with your re-housing application etc.
poppydog1 20/06/2016 at 11:17 pm
They'reruingingmyli: perhaps try seeking advice from the Citizens advice bureau. If the neighbours have another man staying there, inform the council as he might not have the right to be there. Can you not tell social services about the neglect and cruelty to the poor children? (I think there are anonymous phone lines). I feel sorry for your little boy hearing other children distressed. Perhaps keep a diary of it all.
They'reruingingmyli 20/06/2016 at 9:14 pm
I live in a private flat inside a council block. The neighbours in the flat below me are vile. The mother has three children under 4 years old, all with different men, and the youngest child's dad is an ex convict and is now living there too. The boyfriend is abusive and I have heard them physically fighting. They argue on a daily basis and the children's cries are often neglected. The children are shouted and sworn at and called names such as 'dirty little cow', and the mother is just as bad as the boyfriend. I have had to call the police about the noise of her music going on until the early hours. The boyfriend's voice is so loud, and his grammar is the poorest I've heard. All day I can't relax and enjoy my home which I've made very nice and comfortable, because of his deep loud voice and the idiotic things he comes out with. Both of the adults seem like complete morons. The fly tip there furniture down in the bin room and I saw the mother open her boyfriend car door and drop her empty can of drink on the floor in the car park outside! I live on my own with my toddler son and it's really getting me down. My son says 'baby' out of concern when he hears them crying. I do worry for mine and my sons safety after reporting them to social services, but it is the right thing to do because they are a severely dysfunctional family, and they think they are normal and fine. I've sent several emails to the council asking for help to move me out of here. I just want to go. I was forced to take this flat as I was on the homeless housing register, and if I turned it down the council said they would not help me anymore. If I had the money for a deposit and lettings agency fees, I'd move out of here tomorrow. What else can I do to make the council see that living here is not suitable for me and I need to be moved. The family below see no error in their ways and will never change, so it's not fair for me to have to live with their behaviour. There is no sound proofing. I find myself constantly listening in when I hear raised voices or thumping to check that they're not fighting. They slam their doors when rowing and it shakes my flat. They also don't have an ounce of consideration when putting their washing machine on at 11pm! To add to it, they've got another man staying there adding to the noise and the hype, and also a new puppy!

If you are unhappy with the way the police and the council have treated your complaint it might be worth taking this further...speaking to your MP or complaining to the Local Government Ombudsman.

2 years of unprovoked harrassment so far. They live opposite.
Started with horn blasts every other day as they drove past.
Then after asking them nicely horns everyday.
Then after saying it's still a prob they increased up to 40 times a day.
Then loud bassy music from house too.
Then they got a subwoofer for their car aswell.
Then started banging on bins and random objects with hammers from 7am - 11pm.
Friends and own car revving with wide exhaust drone.
Shouting c*nt towards our property.
Making more noise when we have curtains open so we don't open them now.
Wheelspins in their car.
Setting off car alarm at 3am
Revving moped and rising up and down.

I can't relax.
I can't even take a poo i'm constantly stress constipated.
Fam+friends have stopped liking me as I complain about it.
Police will do nothing, council closed my case.
I'm starting to think i might have to end my life to make it stop.
I keep imagining myself poking my eardrums out with needles.
I keep imagining conversations with my neighbour in my head pleading for them to leave me alone.
Whenever I hear a car come down the street or see the light reflecting on my ceiling my heart races expecting the noise
I can't function like this.

My neighbour & I are having disputes about our cats. Through the whole process I have tried to be nice but she is unreasonable and aggressive. This is a fairly new situation, since their cat has only just been allowed outside, but I would like advise on what I could do if the situation worsens or continues in the same fashion.
The neighbour has a young male cat that has not been neutered. I have a small female cat who is spayed but very defensive of her property, as she was made a stray by another cat in her old home.
I have done my best to keep them from fighting (never being cruel to either cat, I will I either pick mine up and move her or shoo the other cat away). Twice the neighbours cat has gotten into my house and both times he has acted feral. On the first occasion he ran straight upstairs, when I followed to go and get him he jumped at my face, trying to claw me, spitting and hissing.
I decided to close all doors, except the front door... so when he got bored he would have nowhere to go but out.
Then some of my visitors arrived at the front door, not wanting them to get scratched as they entered my home, I went outside to warn them and spotted the owner of the cat leaning out of a window, smoking a cigarette.
I said, "Oh, hi. Sorry, but your cat is in my house being quite nasty...Do you think you could come and get him?"
The neighbour said they would, but made no effort to do so. My partner then arrived and managed to get the cat out, put him in their house and I thought that was the end of it.
But, about 3 or 4 weeks later, I was in my garden reading the newspaper, and my cat tried to scratch the neighbour's cat through the wire fence. I moved my cat away, and at this point the neighbour came out and started telling me to leave the cats to fight, because that's what cats do and not to 'Come f***ing knocking on my door because my cat is being nasty to your cat.'
When I explained the situation they said, "That's not what you said." Repeatedly and continued to swear at me, making it clear they would have issue with me if I ever intervened when the cats were fighting again.
Honestly, apart from being a bit soft on animals, I can't see what I have done to warrant this kind of nasty behaviour from the neighbour. I intend to put a solid fence instead of a wire fence up to divide our properties, but as the fence is on their property I will have to discuss this with her...which I am not relishing at this stage.

What good would this do? It's not advisable to resort to social media for this kind of situation.
fugs 15/05/2016 at 8:08 pm
what are the laws regarding posting a social media status about horrible noisy neighbours?
I know not to use names, be threatening or being abusive.
I've had no joy from contacting the neighbour, the police, or the council, I'm at my wits end :(
ProblemNeighbours Editor 28/04/2016 at 10:49 am
The environmental health team may be able to help with the noise issue. Any unacceptable/anti social behaviour could be reported to the local police. If the property is rented, it is worth reporting to their landlord. They could also take action by seeking a court order to stop the behaviour from recurring

This all happened a couple of years ago, my kids were still all at home, we had neighbors that would party all week, they caused a lot of elderly neighbors to move out. This went on and on for around 6 months, one day a friend of my husbands came to stay who was an outlaw biker. That night the party started up, our friend put his patch on, went over to their house, kicked their door in, said if you don't shut the f up, I'm going to take your lounge, your tv and your girlfriend!!! Lololol. Guess what we never heard from them again...sometimes bad neighbors need to be freaked the hell out!

It all started when my flat was nearly broken into. The windows were tried luckily no access just damage. My neighbour tried to insult me in the communal area trying to suggest it was because of the way I am. The police suggested I install cameras. At the time the neighbour suggested it was a good idea. When the cameras went up he said they were looking into his flat. His behaviour was very intimidating as he leaned in on me to say they had to come down. Luckily I had a friend with me who witnessed the behaviour. He would look at me like scum. To the day he treats me like nothing and has no respect insulting me when I'm alone. He lives above me the banging is near constant. When I come in from work he rants shouts and bangs. He sleeps in the day and comes to life at night I'm lucky if I get 4 hours sleep. Then when I'm off he starts hoovering at 8am. Other neighbours have heard the outbursts. I'm a respectful pleasant neighbour I'm not moving out my flat. People like him get away with treating others appallingly. Bad people always get there own way and nothing is done to protect innocents.

I have been suffering for the past year with several nabours all friends. Everything from abuse, having dead rats put on my car. Even the police don't want to know nothing we can do but we will make a note. My Housing association is also aware. Now they have aload a home swap and one of my abusive nabours family has just moved in. Sorry but no one seems to give a Dame,
Not even the law. So section 5 harassment, alarm and distress don't matter.

Hi, I Am as we speak at my witts end with my single parent neighbour and two kids who moved in three or four years ago. It all started with the mother who worked in a school with seven wks holiday, pitched a tent and put up a sheet and projector(outside) cinemas etc under our bedroom window. One time we couldnt get a wink of sleep my husband asked them to be quiet, they decided to get louder and throw rubbish and stones over the fence as punishment. Then the hell bagan, the son was out a few nights later with a blow torch looking and laughing in my windows, we were concenrned. Next day as i saw him flee in gate a few minutes after my six foot hedge was up in flames, told police and nothing was done, then the banging on walls and loud music and tvs began. Worst of all she became a prison officer and the polices answer to the young man looking in my windows co stantly and looking in my windows with binocculors with witnesses after informing us my brothers a policeman and i can look in your f....ng windows if i like(12yr old daughter playing there) is close blinds windows and stay in. I should them facebook comments of her going to do a dance with the blowtorch in my garden and i was soo upset with my burning bush(prison officer) police done nothing. Weve been to council snd police numrous times even councilors and theyve done nothing. Now after me being filmed in my own hime reacting to him shining a torch to my window where my daughter was then showing me his rear wnd parting cheeks and sexual movements they fimed my reaction of me in my bedroom the police are threatening to charge me. Meantime banging taunting and looking in windows lies etc etc remains while we ignore, got a good lawyer and he'll get legal aid and carry on. I am although scared for my girls as i have a son and i do not think this behavour of a young man is ok.

For the past 2 yrs now I have had to put up with verbal homophobic abuse from a group of teenagers that don't stay in my street or near my street. It has now evolved to them trying to kick in my friends front door and throwing stones at my windows and scaring my young daughter. My friend has reported them to the police as they have damaged her door. There school won't do anything even when it is during school time. I got so anger with the abuse as my young daughter was with me at one point when they where using homophobic abuse calling me every name you could think off. I took my phone out to take a video but this just made it worse. Community wardens never patrol when this happens what can I do

for many years we have put up with abusive neighbours, they are noisy abusive and selfish people. It all began in 2011 when my neighbour banged on the wall and shouted "call the police, im in trouble i being strangled". So i just did what i thought what a good neighbour should do and ring the police. When the police arrived they arrested the man she was living with, me and my partner went inside to calm the woman down has she was shaking and crying. About month later i went to court with her has a witness. But i've always had this sence at the back of mind that this woman was trouble and she wasnt well. A few months past we still like on friendly terms we would say hi or good morning. But then trouble soon accured when she met a new fella. they would stay up late early hours in morning chatting really loudly music playing loud, and banging doors and swearing at each. This carried on from months to years and while years went on she become more resentful of me and partner and it turned into hate. She would accuse us both vandalising her car, and outside her property, then she would delibrate keep me and my partner awake by banging drilling on walls. We have had called the police and recorded this but still she continues to do what she like. This is now made me really unhappy and miserable i think im cracking up myself. We cant afford to move has it cost us both the bond and rent, we also put up camera which comes at a cost each month, because someone decided to put nails in our tyres. Just dont know when this will ever end and i am desprate my sex life has gone out window also. I feel she taken my youth, has i dont remember having much happy memories in my 20s. I am now in my 30s all i do is go work come home depressed. And then go bed early has my life does not feel like my own. I hope their is someone i could talk to. Has im also im going through a traumatic time, my parents splitting up, my neighbour being horrible to me and job that i hate.

bare with me as this is a long story
i moved into a block of flats about 6 years ago. i had a problem with a guy who lived there who decided to keep ringing my buzzer and shouting though my letterbox because he wanted some kind of relationship with me. this would continue about every 10 minute intervals for around an hour or so around three times a week he would even try to just open my door and just walk into my flat so i had to keep the door permenantly locked this got so bad that i ended up having to put a lock on my letterbox to stop him from opening it and trying to talk to me through it i shoud have let people no what was happening long before i did but i thought he would get fed up and stop eventually - but he never did. i recorded some of the incidents on my phone and im so glad i did as i will explain why later. it was a housing association flat but the flat above me had been sold off and was rented privatly. i would get new tennants above me every 6 months or so. and i would never know what they would be like. it wasnt too bad until i had been there about 2 years and then the nightmare tennant moved in. it started the very weekend he moved in the loud music thumping through the walls and people turning up and partying from 10pm until 3-4 in the morning. this went on EVERY weekend. i was very distressed and asking him to be a bit more considerate just resulted in him shouting abuse and made the situation worst. i couldnt sleep and was constantly on edge in my own home. i not only had this noise above but i also had this other neighbour who keep knocking on my door and talking in my letterbox! i just hoped he would move out after 6 months but he didnt he just got worst it got to the point that loud music would be playing for 8 hours continuously followed by hours of partying and shouting through the night. i called the police but they would not come out even when it was late they just would tell me to contact environmental health. environmental health monitored the situation for about a year before they finally handed him a noise abatement notice by this time i was feeling completley helpless to the point of suicide to stop this and it was seriously affecting my mental health and wellbeing. the noise abatement notice worked for about a month but during this time i assume because he had got that he decided to pour milk outside my door where i left my pushbike then pour tubs of colslaw under my bike.. the final straw was when he actually left human excrement under my bike. the housing association would not do anything much about it they were not interested. i became a nervous wreck not wanting to go out for fear of bumping into either of these people andi dreaded him above coming home. i finally snapped when i was walking in the street outside and he shouted abuse at me from his car this made me inform the police as to what was going on. i made an appointment to visit the police station armed with my recordings. it was difficult to ex

I am in desperate need of advice. I have just recently come out of hospital due to my bullying neighbours' behaviours and because the council are not taking my issues seriously I am at a loss for what to do. They have been fly tipping a lot of leaves onto my porch and I mean bin bags full all over my porch even though all the leaves for the trees are gone and they keep doing this as well as giving me constant noise pollution, they are supposed to be deaf and are using their age as an excuse to get away with this horrific behaviour but I do not have the money for cctv to catch them doing this. I know they are doing it because the walls are paper thin and they laugh about it, they have also put spiteful reports out about my mental health and my doctors are on the case after it has been proven I am not psychotic just suffering severe anxiety due to their behaviour and bullying. They did this to the last tenant as well and obviously want me out of the bungalow in place of a pensioner as they put out a petition to get the last lady out in place of one. One pensioner up the road admits to looking into my property Windows when I am not there and also watches me enter and exit my property like a hawk. I am at the end of my rope with this and my doctors can't keep putting me back into hospital all the time for it either, but the council refuses to listen and I need another property away from this street but they say I am adequately housed, please can someone help me?

This is a continuation, did not know there was a max. solution at the end for those looking for a work around with headphones. So after we got confirmation with other neighbors, our landlord was notified with 2 supporting anonymous sources and then the HOA sent notice to the tenants. They were quiet for a while. Then the noise started again. But what was odd, was during the day, when I was hanging up the new headphones my husband got, by putting a nail in a desk and creating a hook. They texted my husband for me to stop the banging. My husband apologized and confirmed with me that I was done, he was at work at the time. I was done within 5-10 minutes at the most, which was the time Fed ex dropped the headphones off to the time I texted my husband just mentioning I love him. We figured since they were able to communicate to us, then we could try again with them. They responded to our last notification after they turned down their tv and after we thanked them for doing so with "yep and two thumbs up". Later than night, after 10pm, I kept hearing a loud sound like a metal bouncing ball. It was the empty 5 gallon water jugs being dropped. I wish we knew whether it's because we were making noise or if it's just them being mad at eachother, which could since we also hear their heavy walking sometimes sounds like wrestling. But dropping the water bottle 6 times is excessive. That will be added to my documentation and we'll inquire with our landlord if we should contact their landlord directly next. So our work around is, use headphones, hook up your tv to an amplifier using aux cable, and then use the amp to adjust to the sound, hook up an aux cable from the amp to a splitter, I like monster because you can can also adjust the volume on the one I bought and also plug in your tv if you want to hear that as well, and then hook the splitter up to headphones, I use HP headphones. My husband has his headphones for his gaming system. May be costly but it is so worth it. You can also use ear plugs but that may affect the sound differently. I seem to be able to hear them better when I have ear plugs in. But maybe the right kind will work. Fans and white noise from youtube without headphones helped for a short while but that sounded like I was in an airplane. So hope this helped a little.
LVa 07/11/2015 at 9:02 am
This is long, but worth it. I have a solution at the end for those looking for a work around with headphones at the end. Skip there if you don't want to read the story. Sorry, there are typos. My husband and I are renter upstairs. We have tenants that have lived beneath us for 6 months so far. We are in a month to month lease after living here for a year. The tenants below may be in their first year lease. In the beginning we had an issue come up that caused us to communicate with eachother over the AC leaking. No problem there, we also took to mention that we hear their tv and conversations. They shrugged it off. One night, my husband was playing his game, and I thought, it maybe be loud or shaking, so we asked if they heard him, they said no. We'll I felt at least we communicated to them about our situation and maybe we could have open communication if need be. Their TV kept being loud over the weeks, and we figured we should mention it again in case they didn't think we were serious or in case they didn't choose to listen when we first mentioned it. Well, they denied it was them and that it was another apartment over. I thought that could be, and apologized, gave them some pastries as an apology. We said we hear noises from your apartment and tv vibrations and you can come up and check. Now, what I hear is rumbling around 10 am, then TV around 2pm through 8pm, then rumbling like a game, sometimes guitar playing, and then rumbling until 1am, sometimes later, but not loud enough for the police. We just live in old apartments. We felt comfortable enough, since they are a young couple with a 8 month old child(of whom we hardly hear) to invite them to come upstairs to hear and feel the vibrations and again once the husband came up, he denied it was from their apartment. He didn't even take the time to listen, he just came up and a few seconds in said it wasn't them and pointed to their nextdoor neighbors. We thanked him for coming up. We exchanged numbers. We heard the noise again, and let them know by text, and then their reply was it was their neighbors. But their neighbors were not even home at the time. My husband pointed that out to them, and said the noise started when they moved in and the other tenant has been here this past year but we never heared any noise before from them before. They didn't respond, but they never used them as an excuse again. The noise kept coming from below and we had other neighbors come over to confirm if it was loud and if it was from their apartment and they all agreed even putting their ear to our our rug to confirm it was their apartment. 1st thing I learned about this, if a noisy neighbor denies it is theirs, that's your first red flag you know something is up. But after texting them 3 times, after 10 pm, when the noise was excessive for that time, they said they can't hear their tv if they turn it down any lower. I guess that could be true since we live near the freeway.

how do I deal with a neighbour that is giving me verbal abuse over another neighbour that is meant to be evicted from up stairs. I have put up with 5 years abuse from neighbour up stairs and now getting verbal abuse from the lady opposite about said neighbour up stairs. I moved in with a metal frame holding my jaw together (cancer of the lower right jaw), and already disabled. have had 2 mini strokes and and problems to do with this ever since.
please could someone advise me on what to do.
ProblemNeighbours Editor 21/10/2015 at 2:07 pm
Take alook at the relevant articles on the site to find out what legal action you can take. This article offers hints and tips for dealing with troublesome neighbours, as the title suggests. There are specific articles relating to blocking of access, unwillingness to keep property tidy etc. We hope legal action resolves your issues.
GG 20/10/2015 at 6:36 pm
This site is unhelpful. You can advise people on how to be good neighbours until the cows come home, but this site SHOULD provide advice to good neighbours who don't have good neighbours, and it quite simply fails to do that!
Sometimes good neighbours go in search of strong legal advice, of a zero-tolerance nature. I think this site fails to offer a zero- tolerance, legal response that people are in search of so therefore, this site is largely of little use to most people with problem neighbours.
We have had neighbours who dump litter and refuse to cull their weeds right outside our front door. We have had the access road to our property spitefully blocked by the same neighbours, sometimes on a daily basis without provocation or response from us. They have been doing this for 9 years due to a) our tolerance of their unacceptable behaviour and b) our acceptance of their refusal to behave responsibly and 'neighbourly'. Let me tell you all - if being a good neighbour doesn't work after you have turned the other cheek - it ain't ever going to work. Do yourself a favour, get the photo/video evidence, keep calm, keep your responses polite, save up for a solicitor and smack them hard with legal action. And don't be made to feel you are in the wrong for not being nice enough. 9 years of nice got us nowhere!!!!
ProblemNeighbours Editor 14/10/2015 at 1:57 pm
To what extent is it covering your house? Can you not just scrape it off? If you're not willing to do that, contact your insurance company and see if there's anything they can do/suggest. Other than that you will have to try a legal suit in the civil court.
fedup15 13/10/2015 at 8:30 pm
Please provide some advice for me, my neighbour has tried pointing up his house however has seriously just pretty much cemented the whole house, this has also gone onto my property almost up to my windows, totally de valuing my home along with being a complete eye sore. I have asked him to rectify this and he refuses, what can I do ??

I have dealt with aggressive harassment from a neighbour to harassment from a landlord and now have a neighbour giving me dirty looks on regular occasions all because of my family parking down the side of our car park like every other Tom Dick and Harry do when they visit people. Yet it's me she has a problem with. I have spoken to other neighbours and they say to ignore it but it's hard to when I've done nothing to her. Her partner is totally friendly she is just so miserable. I held the door open for them and he said thank you and she blanked me glaring straight ahead and upon her way up the stairs glared at me some more. It's really pathetic. I can't be cooking in my kitchen when she's parking otherwise I get stared at.

Well I have a private let through the wall they moved in last year everything was OK until they started playing their music and it was from six until ten at night had to put my telly up and it didn't work so went to the estate agent to complain then it was the environmental health was told to write everything down then one night I phoned the police now the daughter who does not stay with them came to the door and said she was going to see her lawyer but she doesn't know that I had a burst aneurysm 15 years ago and I have mental health problems as well just feel like moving out of my house after being in it since 1973 and I'm registered disabled with my brain injury
ProblemNeighbours Editor 06/10/2015 at 11:55 am
This really depends. If these neighbours are in all day, a door slammed 15 times is less than one per hour. If there's lots of "slamming" and it is very late at night or early in the morning then there's a possibility that environmental health will act, but it would have to occur daily/nightly.
Jackslash 05/10/2015 at 2:03 pm
Sorry but slamming a door 15 times a day is excessive. It's excessive noise, when it's not necessary. Closing a door behind you and slamming a door are two different things. It can be horrid to have banging constantly throughout the day (15x a day 7 days a week is a lot of slamming) it's probably not that it's 15x a day, it's more likely that poor Vee has had to put up with it for months, even years! Seems to me that you're quite content with slamming your doors and having no consideration for the noise you're making. That's the problem with people these days, they don't give the slightest damn that what they're doing can be upsetting for someone else. It is a law in this country that EVERYONE has the RIGHT to LIVE IN PEACE. Lots even wrote into deeds when you buy a house. Slamming doors isn't keeping the peace.

Hi, we moved into our current house a year and 4 months ago, to start off with our neighbours were okay but then started being weird and now they have a problem with everything that we do, we have changed our ways to please them but it seems like they will never be pleased we are from a different background and now think they are racist. Is there any help we can get?
annoyingsplinter Editor 15/09/2015 at 12:41 pm
@Vee Sorry but closing/slamming the door 15 times a day doesn't sound like an excessive amount of noise or nuisance?! Are these people not allowed to go out or move around their home?
Vee 14/09/2015 at 6:25 pm
Our neighbours are constantly slamming their front door on purpose. It happens at least 15 times a day and we are.at our wits end. I have tried the softly softly approach even though years ago they said they would petrol bomb us! Their kids are 17 and 23 and smoke pot all day with the smell drifting into ours. They are very nasty people and I feel anxious about this.

Two old bats who have led my wife's life a misery by constantly banging her back door (on purpose)at the early hours (05:30 am) next to our bedroom ,the police have been called on numerous occasions and can do nothing about it apparently??... and south ayrshire council who clearly are scared of these two old bats trying to play the case down. one of the old bats has contacts in the council and has had her daughter and son in law involved in the action to try and get an asbo on me saying that i have been terrorizing their mother (LIES) the ASBO officer clearly does not know what she is doing as this is a clear case as "conflict of interest" in the council department. as her daughter works for them so does her son in law.. ..this old bat has gone to great lengths to try and muddy our name by contacting the council on a regular weekly basis with a catalogue of lies of which are unbelievable to say the least.. and South ayrshire council are believing all these lies... I pressed the asbo officer saying that if she believed all these lies... and she got fed up with me by hissing as she again looked through the papers of which were the complaints made by the old bat... she was asked to leave!!.

Reading these stories, just is hard. Hard to understand why we just can't get along? That being said, here's my story.I live nextdoor to a female that refuses to stop her defamation, slander, & lies. We used to be social, but it was only when she wanted to be. Year's later now, she will (intentionally) go out of her way & lie about me. She's told people, I'm a drug dealer, sleeping with my daughter's boyfriend's, & the last stunt was calling the police, saying I had dog feces all over my home. Needless to say, having 4 squads show up, as she left, just a few minutes before, really shows who called. They told me it was an anonymous caller. She goes around, to new people that move in next door to her & poisons them with her lies. They refuse to acknowledge me & look at me in the most unkind ways. Two of the people, that have moved out, have apologized for believing what was being told to them. To me, it's difficult knowing that (now) new people have (yet again) moved in & she's already gotten to them. Now again, I'm being given unkind looks from people that don't know me, yet believe what's being told/said. She's also seems to recruit other people, as to make her lies/slander/defamation seems more "credible."

Our neighbours moved in over a year ago and they instantly became aggressive towards myself and my wife. They came round banging on the door screaming about how we slammed the doors. After the threat of violence we called the police. The matter was supposedly resolved. Since then they have cut branches off trees that are in our garden and dumped them in our garden. We were told by our housing association to call the police which we did. Due to the fact that they went to the neighbours house first, they were fed a story of how there was no malice involved and it was a misunderstanding. The police officers believes this. Once the police had left my home, my wife overheard the husband talking about chopping the whole tree down and dumping it in our garden, as well as several comments pertaining to knocking my teeth down my throat. They have thrown more chopped off branches into my back garden since. My wife wants to inform the police wgwin but seeing as though they have already done such a stellar job *sarcasm* i am loathe to do so. I dont want this situation to do anything other than cease. This situation is complicated bybthe fact that the house they live in is owned by a relative of theirs. Help please!

We have lived in our house for 3
Years now the first 2 years were great thought our neighbours were great until we built a new dividing wall on our front drive which is all legally done and been passed by the council yet she has been making our life's hell for the past year as the only reason she can give is she doesn't like it, running around all the neighbours telling lies so all we get is dirty looks off them, going to the council lying more saying we're making loud diy noise late at night when we've haven't done nothing in our house for over a year saying our dog barks constantly when I know he isn't as I always leave someone here with him, no prof but last year we re Laid a new lawn done put some nice garden beds lots of expensive hardy plants in but now their all dead yet the other side is blooming beautifully has she put weed killer over the fence ? the Tyres on our car are costing us a fortune as they've been slashed a few time which is what the garage are telling us is it them ? , the council have now knocked our expensive wall down to re build exactly the same wall just to shut her up which is what they said to us, we've had to have meetings with them just so we don't get evicted I'm feeling I can't breath in my own home or garden she's always watching us from upstairs windows thinking I can't see her when I can there's no privacy I've asked for cameras from the council but will probably have to do it from our own pocket as the council are not helping us at all, please help as I don't know where to go from here ???

We have these 2 neighbours who are constantly damaging our property when we are sleeping or not at home. There is over $100,000.00 damage done already and they sure know how to lie to the Police and are believed. We are 2 seniors and have lived here since 1966 and just want to live in peace and quiet and for them to pay for all this damage done. Apparently the Police here at 32 Division do absolutely nothing to help you at all and it sure looks like they are taking bribes from the criminals. Apparently this one neighbour does not own the house and does not work and is doing all the damage here as he listens to the other neighbour. It seems like the criminals who are selling drugs, break 'n enter, selling chop shop cars, damaging people's property are getting away with everything scot free. We do not live in a 3rd World Country or Police State. We are honest, trustworthy people and just because there is no man living here, they are taking advantage of us and want our property and we are being forced out of our own home which is very unfair and unruly!!!! All we are asking for is for this to stop immediately and for the 2 neighbours to pay for all the damage they have done. They sure know how to lie to the Police and in Court so they are believed. I thought the Police were to "Serve & Protect", but not any more!!!! Need your help immediately!!!!

We've lived in our council house for 15 years. We have had no problems with neighbours until a new one moved in next door . She has taken a dislike to my daughter who suffers anxiety and hardly goes out without me . She hardly sits in the garden because the neighbour was bulling her last year and reporting her to the police for little things like while standing at the barbique and dropping the lid by accident . She has also reported her resuntly for playing out side with her cousins because she was squirting a water gun and it hit her window .I've had enough don't know what to do

hello,
i do feel sorry for you all, people are just so thoughtless rude and inconsiderate.i too am having problems i have lived in this rented property for 13 years last year a new tenant moved in above me, first month it was all ok, then she moved her brother his girlfriend and their 2 kids in, these are very small flats and no soundproofing so you can imagine all the noise. i put up with this for 8 months suffering in silence. they finally move out and i thought i would finally get some peace and quiet, for one month yes, then they started turning up on a friday morning just after she had left for work, then they would stay until sunday evening/monday morning, by this time i have by wednesday started getting anxiety attacks and depression knowing that they would be staying the whole week end and being noisy. then the girl who rents the flat went away for a week and a half and they stayed, the noise was ridiculous banging and jumping on the floor by the kids, the baby crying on and off all day blaring the tv out at 5am the girlfriend is very gobby and loud so you could hear her at 5am. so i had had enough of it so put a polite note in her door when she came back complaining about the noise, she came round the next day i stupidly thought to apologise but no started screaming and shouting at me for putting a note in her door then started swearing at me. i then had a snotty note put through the door by the girlfriend accusing me of lying about the noise, now all she does is invite these family members ans other loud mouthed frinds with kids to come round and can hear them telling the kids to scream and shout and jump up and down, this week end was a nightmare they were all drinking and getting louder and louder getting the kids to scream and jump on the floor and the language every other word was f*****g c**t what can i do to end this, before you say move out i literally cannot afford to move out as the rents have gone sky high would appreciate any advice given.thanks

I live in a block of flats inbetween two of the nosiest neighbours you can think of. The family underneath me are a drug related gang I know this because a few guys who arrive keep coming in and out of the flat on their mopeds and this happens during the night so you can imagine how loud those things are and they do not care about how loud their bikes are, they'll still leave at 2/3am with the engine making so much noise. Their kid runs up and down the block when she has no right to even go past the 1st floor because they on the ground floor. Their dog barks all the time and they play their music so loud that the vibrations disturb me and the weed smoking is too much as well. It feels like they invite people over all the time just so they can smoke weed then go like its one of those cafes in Amsterdam. As for the neighbour above me he would run on his treadmill which causes loud and very annoying banging and if its not that its the running of the taps/slamming of his doors at 1am/2am and when he isn't doing any of those it is watching movies with his CINEMA SURROUND systems which is so loud I can't even hear my own TV sometimes. I need serious advice because I am at my breaking point at the moment

My neighbour seems to think that the parking space outside his house belongs to him! It is in fact a public highway. If my husband or I dare to even park partly in front of his house he does his up most to bloke us in. May people on our road have more than one car and we are often left with no option than to park outside his house. He on the other hand does not have a problem with parking outside our house, even on one occasion when we asked if the space be kept free for an hour as we were expecting a delivery. He even knocks on neighbours doors and asks them to move there cars if they dare to park in his space. Why does this man think he owns a public road!

When my neighbour had a brain aneurism I helped her with everything when she finally came home, her kids abandoned her unless they wanted something, stopped going round for medical and personal reasons and ever since she does nothing but phone the housing association to complain about everything even us leaving the house, all we get is abuse and our housing manager is doing nothing, what can we do, tried negotiation and it stays quiet for a couple of months then starts again

We moved into our house just over a year ago and a month afterwards we got new neighbours, all was okmat first but then they started having late night arguments and slamming doors etc this has been followed ever since by either loud music and swearing at their own 4 kids with some of the most offensive language you would be likely to hear, they are not the approachable sort, they are also benefit cheats and proud of the fact either with different cars and having decent holidays etc, I have reported them to DWP and nspcc but these people are that slippery that nothing has been done, any advice would be ideal,

@MrAngryNextDoor. You may need to employ your rights under the Access to Neighbouring Land Act if your neighbour proves unreasonable the next time. Here is our guide to the Act.

My neighbour bought a large white car transporter and parked it next to our fence and it's over 6ft high. It is less than a metre from our patio windows. We asked if he'd consider moving it to the side of the house (as nobody would see it) he told me to F*** O**. 6m later we had a new sky cable fitted and our neighbour was away and we got permission from his son to carry out the repairs from his drive.
When he returned he came around with a couple of cable pins he'd found on his drive. I said I'd contact the sky team. He wanted me to take full responsibility for any damage to tyres I said its for Sky to discuss he the said he'd never let anyone enter his property to allow repairs to my house ever again.
He's a very angry and intimidating man. I don't have need to do anymore work but clearly we will need to clean gutters, paint an upstairs window etc in the future.

I wonder what I should do I know he will be awkward and is often away for months at a time so could delay work being carried out.

any advice. ?

I have lived in my 3 bed house for 3 years now and at first it was brilliant. Never had a problem at all.
Then last year next door neighbour moved in his girlfriend and 2 kids and trouble started. She would shout scream at her kids leave them in bed shouting and screaming from 7 am until 11am everyday was like a war zone I saw her hit her child so aggressively that he fell on the floor in the garden. I called social services as her children would run riot throwing rubbish in my garden and when I approached her I got abuse. Now nearly 12 months on I have police at my door because of her provoking me by loud music banging on walls shouting at me through the walls but outside she would say nothing.
She has made an allegation against my partner saying he threw wood at her when she placed wood against my gate and blocked me in my house. Now she provokes my partner and my son so she can call the police. I am being forced out my house because of her and now police get called over the slightest of things I am now made to be the persecutor. I have no idea what to do as even ignoring them or making slight bit of noise the police come out.

@jacks. Unfortunately there is not much you can do about this. The relevant authorities will soon realise that this is simply 'family noise' and will advise the other tenant of this, especially as you say you are all completely quiet after 9pm.

Landlords are useless with this kind of thing. I have called mine countless amount of times and left complaints I got a reply once. Then when spoke to the women underneath me who told her lies I was treated as the bad one. I felt she believed her even though I had proof and she had nothing. She's threatened my brother my 15 year old cousin, my 3 year old daughter has been sworn at by her, I've had to take her out all hours of the night because she scares her. She shouts and screams has done damage to my property rubbish in my garden. Trying to hurt my daughter smashing glass outside my front door, breaking my gate so if it was opened or closed it would fall on that person pulling up my daughters flowers chucking them at the front door kicking my front door music and drugs all night till 6 in the morning. And there's more but my landlord will not do a single thing and I find it disgusting that my daughter and myself are forced out of our home or even made to feel so unsafe we can't answer our front door unless someone has called us to say it's them.
ProblemNeighbours Editor 30/04/2015 at 9:47 am
@time. Hopefully the tips in the article will help, but unless the neighbour has actually inflicted damage on you or your property, there is not a great deal you can do unfortunately. Ignoring them is really the best policy, we know that's often difficult but it's often the most effective. We hope you manage to move soon.

For 11 years my family have had trouble with our neighbours. They started off fine and were nice, always talking etc then one day they stopped and starting blanking us. Then things started to happen, called me a b**** and my brother a p***** for no reason, we were 14 & 16 and playing in our back garden. They came into our garden without our permission to cut branches off our tree even though we had told them that we had the tree booked in to be removed. Worse stuff has happened over the past 11 years, parties, argument about parking infront of his house (said no one is allowed there except him) and they have turned 4 other households against us when we have done absolutely nothing wrong. We asked one lady once what we had done to her for her to treat us like this, she said, nothing.
Finally, a couple of weeks ago they hired a man to cut down their tree in their front garden and didn't ask our permission to come into our front garden, the man started trying to move our gate and I said he couldn't because it was broken and said to my neighbour he should ask permission next time to come onto our property. He then shouted at my mum last night saying that I called him a drunk. I never EVER said that, I was so furious I went round there shouting at him and he shut the door in my face because he knew I was right. I ended up swearing at him and now I'm scared I'll get into trouble. He's so evil, he always picks on my mum because she's quite, he tried picking on me but I stood up to myself, he's nice as pie to my boyfriend, he's so sexist. I'm furious and so upset, I just don't know what to do anymore. We are trying to get the house ready to move but it takes so long.

My neighbours are making my life hell, partying every day and night, me and my children can't get any sleep
Lee 16/04/2015 at 1:30 am
I have read everyone's comments on here and my advice would be:
-Call the Police 999/101 if you feel your life is in danger call them - don't be scared - the law is the law and if others are breaking it why should you be scared - call the Police 100 times if you have to as they are interested and should help otherwise they should change their job.
-Contact your council nuisance team, housing association and MP. Other factors might include animals so RSPC and children - so social services might need to be involved due to the vulnerable nature of the situation as I have experienced them dealing will drug addicts and prostitutes too.
-Local and/or national newspapers are normally fairly interested in this kind of information so contacting them may be beneficial and some money may come out of it allowing you a trip away or even better a chance to move away for good.

As for the bins against another persons detached house, I would move them myself if not moved ASAP.
Lee 16/04/2015 at 1:18 am
Firstly all of you having to deal with these disgusting neighbours deserve a medal..FYI I have been experiencing very unreasonable people living in rented accommodation since 2011..my first property was a new build flat where I was on the 1st floor with only the car park underneath - not a problem - but with two flats above, you could literally hear a pin drop. After the 1st neighbours left the flat above after it came down to physical violence and calling the police, a 2nd lot ended up being a million times more louder day plus night and ended up being some kind of international criminal gang members. Anyway..moved from this property due to my financial situation changing drastically and ended up in a housing association house on the 1st floor. Have been here nearly two years and have experienced hell on earth as the neighbours include 2/3 drug dealers, a prostitute, drug addicts, alcoholics, petty thieves, all with children and 90% on benefits..My advice is carry on with the recording, pen & paper, email, telephone, mobile, cctv etc etc. Keep contacting your Housing association, council and MP. Get CCTV, burglar alarms and flood lights. The people that continue with this type of behaviour and treatment of others will not win. I am not popular in my area but have my family and we are proud to say that we have helped reduce some of the social issues we had experienced in our area. Drug dealers have been caught and evictions of drug users and drug producers have been carried out. You can do it alone but should not have to, inevitably your housing provider can be sued for not fulfilling their contract when safe housing is not given and by them ignoring the issues they should be tackling they are also in breach as you would be if you didn't pay your rent.

Neighbours teenage boys keep throwing ends over my garden, I've needed to move my rabbits out of their lovely hutch and have brought a shed for them as the hay and straw will burn quickly if the cigarette ends catch it (come close already). Have asked boys not to throw them over also asked their parents to tell them, made no difference. Wil bang on my door even late at night (waking my youngest daughter) asking for the football they kick outside my bedroom window at times it can be at 1am. My dog will then bark at the noise. Now they're throwing rubbish over and climbing over my 6ft fence into my garden. They then open the gate so I now have to check the gate is shut before I can let the rabbits out. I have agsin spoken to their dad eho said "It's kids being kids" strange that my children and my other neighbours children are not behaving in such a way. I'm a single working mom of 2, in a rented house and feel trapped here as my neighbours own their home it seems there is little I can do. Council are useles, as long as I pay my rent they don't care if we feel harassed in our home. Should not have to live worrying about my pets and property when I'm at work or out, live shouldn't be like this, what's wrong with people they have no respect or responsibility anymore.
katie 29/03/2015 at 4:43 pm
my neighbour is a single parent, she is the worst gossip ever, she makes up stories about me, and I cannot prove she is a liar because I'm a widow living alone with no witnesses.
The other neighbours believe her and when we meet they avoid talking to me
when I ask what is wrong they say nothing, they know about.
I did not open my curtains because the sun was on my leather furniture, she rang the police and the police rang age concern, she told them I was drunk from morning till night, I had blood tests and proved from tests this was not so
She behaves like this with her daughter, teaching the 16 year old how to make up lies, the child was expelled from school for being a bully, the child learns how to be a bully from the mother.
What I cannot understand is how she can control the other neighbours , there are 4 men in her control and 5 women, have they got no brain, 13 people abusing one old aged pensioner,
She tried to get me into trouble by saying I have Dementia ,
I have all bills on direct debit
, I don't get social security because I have worked all my life, and the woman has never worked as long as I have known her and that's 15 years

My neighbours both sides slam doors can be sixty times a day. They throw things in my back garden. At christmas they destroyed my wreath about 5times .theyve begun banging my door. The other night they banged on my window at 1.10 . They also slam doors in the night. The other day there was a load of mud right by my doormat and all along in front of my house which I cleared up. I get nervous and stressed. I write everything down.its been going on for over a year.

None of this is any use in my case. My neighbour simply potters about heavy handedly, and goes to bed really really late. It's not enough to legally get any sympathy, but enough to keep me awake. I have had to resort to taking heavy sleeping tablets and wearing uncomfortable earplugs. I should not have be miserable like this, it isnt my fault. There is no help for people in my position as the neighbour is technically not being noisy.
ProblemNeighbours Editor 23/03/2015 at 12:44 pm
@Rufibabi. Court action? Could be lengthy but might be the only way to resolve this. Does your household insurance cover this?
Rufibabi 19/03/2015 at 9:26 pm
We have a shared driveway and my neighbour's friends park on our side and block us in. When I approached my neighbour about the parking I was subjected to a torrent of abuse. Now they are deliberately making parking in our driveway as difficult as possible. I really don't want to move but I don't know what else to do. Do you have any suggestions?
Janey 26/02/2015 at 7:45 pm
We had the council in at 2am. We both get up at 5am for work. The party's downstairs were sometimes 3 times a week. Very noisy. The council said "yes we can hear the music and voices and singing, but its not that loud to do anything about it". What a joke WLDC. Sometimes wonder whether its worth going to work, paying your way and living normally.

I live in a detached house and my neighbours rest his wheelie bins against the side of the house, no real problem with that until it's bin day and he feels the need to smash them into my wall. This was the case at 5.30am this week, he woke me and my children the vibrating noise was so bad it mad the dogs jump and start barking.
I approached him in the evening and he denied it said I was being ridiculous it was just a little tap. this has been going on for years if it's not early morning it's late at night.
I've asked him to move them away from my property he had yet to do this. What should I do next?

Live in a small courtyard with 8 other houses . One nightmare neighbour who has wood burning stove , a massive pigeon loft, 4 howling dogs and now he is parking commercial vehicle in square . All explicitly agents the deeds of the house . There is little the neighbours can do without going legal . The neighbours are leaving rather than tackle the aggressive person responsible . Anyone who complains gets aggressive response . Who no solution . Advice anyone ?
ProblemNeighbours Editor 13/02/2015 at 2:24 pm
@lolly. Gosh what a terrible time you've been having. You do have the right to access the communal walkway, it may be that legal action will be the most successful. Mediation could also help - do ask at your local Citizen's Advice Bureau for advice on these options.
Lolly 11/02/2015 at 10:40 pm
i own a terraced house. and my neighbour is awlful - getting worse as each day goes by. i havent spoken to them for about 2 years. we have a shared walkway which they have repaired a gate to. however they have placed a lock on the gate- gave us a key - all good then bolted the gate from the inside, denying me access to this shared walk way. they pulled down their fence which subsequently damaged my fence. i paid for the a wall to be built but they refused to pay anything towards it. their children were caught climbling into my garden, but they thought it was funny. they refuse to pay for damage their children have caused. they have gone for a loft extention and sent a threatening letter so my husband signed their request for a quiet life - luckily i have spoken to their builder who has explained the party wall to me and was surpirsed that we hadnt been shown the plans. when i mentioned my dispute wit the neighburs - his response was he wasnt surprised ! i know i cant get the money back etc but i really want access to my shared pathway. what can i do. somtimes i feel so low and fruststared i want to physically hurt them, especially the woman who has a foul mouth. i have tried extra hard with the neighbours as she is constantly talking about me to them...i try ot to mention anything. what can i do? without ending up in prison myself?

I have just had a new neighbour come to live in the block of flats where I live, who is of mature years, yet is socialising with a much younger male tenant who has caused me and my boyfriend untold problems for the past year. The new guy pretends to be genuinely pleasant and interested in me and my partner, yet have just discovered that he has gone ahead and reported me to the social security benefits office for apparently spending a lot of time with my partner. I am not sure why he has done this, yet is the only to have done it because although the younger guy is a right terror, not man enough to make a report like that. These two male residents are going between each others flats and circulating idle gossip, and making life very unpleasant for both me and my partner, who have our own separate flats.

As I live in supported housing, the support care workers are aware of some of the rotten behaviours that the younger man causes, but not yet of the new older one who is now also joining in with him. I can't just confront them - we are all here because we each have individual mental health conditions and so must be careful of how to approach things with neighbours. The younger guy was caught taking drugs by his support worker when he first moved in, and began socialising with drink and drug dependent layabouts in the local area - how all this started, and has thrown live fireworks out of his window down to my windows, which he received a formal warning.

This same young guy began targeting my partner because he likes to check the security of the building in the day, and loathed him going to his own flat and making silly complaints that he had his music too loud etc. My partner felt too fearful and uncomfortable being in his own flat and so started to come down to mine more often than he perhaps he should, and why now there has been a nasty allegation made to the benefits agency about us 'living together' and I now have to attend a meeting to disprove this.

I am not just angry but feel immensely betrayed and not just by the young guy but the new one too who has only been here a few months, and have gone out of my way to provide him a vacuum cleaner and done a great deal to befriend and make him feel very welcomed to the block.

I have neighbors from hell!!! We were all friends when they moved in next door. They were mafe aware I have a brain tumor and cant stand loud noises and that they cant block our driveway or park in our PRIVATE parking spot as we only have one door (rear of buildg.) and I use a walker. If I need an ambulance it has to be able yo get to me quickly. Someone turned them in to city code because their junk got way out of hand. They have 3 very loud race cars always working on all summer long, so I could not go out side nor our 10 yr old son w/aspergers who is afraid of loud noises. Spoke to them about this so many times but got nowhere. Now they say we turned them into code 6 times. I called the police #of times again nowhere. Called their landlord 2 times. Now they see me go out and out they come start their vehicle and rev, rev, rev! Turn stereo up in it so it rattles our windows, yellthings in our door, make rude and threatening comments, very vulgar language even in front of my son. We fixed and paid for repair to large holes in our drive as our landlord wouldnt, now they get to those spots, stop and squeal tires and have nothing but holes again! They drive in our drive very fast and slide their truck to turn into their parking, this isnt a shared drive theirs is on otherside of their house. Landlords dont want to hear about it. Have lived here for 8 yrs, they 1.5 yr. We cant afford to move and why should we have to. Isnt harrassment of disabled persons a class E felony? Im in NY, called free legal aid told to live with it or move!!! Please help the stress is killing me, cant take any more!!!

@Bev. If you feel their behaviour constitutes a 'nuisance' you should report them to your local environmental health office. You can also go direct to a magistrates court with a complaint under section 82 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 but see what the local council says first. It maybe that a noise abatement notice served on your neighbours will suffice.

The newish neighbours are driving me mad they are either arguing swearing at the top of their voice or now. It is,4.15 and they are partying and singing. We lived in a quite neighbour hood 12 house on a cup Dr sac with family's and older people. It is driving me mad what can we do. Last Sat there was a row going on with neighbour a cross the road because of the language and car speeding off. Really really fed up now.

@nuricat. It's an age old problem - cats do tend to roam and to foul neighbouring gardens and of course your neighbour will say that it is not her place to remove your pet's faeces from her own garden. There are no real laws in place to protect either you or your neighbour regarding cats. You have done the right the thing in offering to remove it yourself. Good for you.

my neighbour calls over to complain that my cat has pooed in her garden
and threatens to call the police if I dont stop it. i bought her some lemon
juice and told her to cover the mess over and spray with the juice. She said
it didnt work but she never covered the poo over, so of course the cat will
go again in the same spot. She got annoyed becasue the cat was again the garden,
but I dont think it messed again, just the old mess from before, but if she was
worried, why couldnt she cover it. I told her and she said she was busy and had no time because she had to look after her children. It took me thirty seconds to do it myself, but I have a feeling she doesnt want to solve the problem, just to complain ab out it. I cant stop my cat going in her garden and I dont want to face her every time I go outside.

i b ought my house in 2006 and lived here happily with my 2 sons until 2012 when next door was bought by an oldish couple, i now have my lovely home up for sale as the lovely sweet old couple have tormented me, turned all the other neighbours against me. they have sneaked into my garden at night and pruned my ornamental faux tree, smashed my birdbox, left dogmuck on my step, filled my bin with their rubbish, damaged my car (it was witnessed) kept my grandkids awake until morning banging and slamming cupboards, shouted threats through the wall when they have been drinking (every friday) they now have arranged for their friends opposite to block of the road when i have people viewing my house so it looks like there is nowhere to park so they won't buy, yes i know that sounds daft as you would think they would want me to sell but no, they would rather torment me as i have no husband i am a sitting target!

my neighbour has caused me to have rats in my attic and now they are in the wall cavities, I have put traps and poison and cannot get them, I hear them at night crawling in the wall cavity, I have called environmental health and it took 3wks to get an appointment and then a further 15 calls 3 weeks later got to speak to them, I have spoken to neighbours and they keep fobbing me off telling the EH officer lies:that they will do repairs, have insurance, a relative can use sewer cameras etc they do nothing! When I went round yesterday he shut the door in my face and said I was being awkward????? I am at end of teather, the council is useless and have done nothing, it has been going on for 6 months now and I am worried about the wiring being chewed and causing more damage and expense. My neighbour shows no interest, please give best cause of action: I have made a total of 200 calls to the environmental health and they have done nothing!

I have neighbours who are all adults and when we moved into our house 2 years ago it was ok the house and garden needed lots of work of which its taken all this time to do but its beautiful now.Unfortunately the neighbours daughter 17 at the time we moved in, her boyfriend ,moved into live with her,he is the ONLY problem we suffered night after night of her screaming hearing her being play slapped, her screaming when he was biting her pulling at parts of her body,at first I used to laugh but the my youngest daughter 7 at that time wanted to know why he was beating her up,so I spoke to him( I was'nt rude nor did I shout)I treated him like an adult well they wouldn't speak for months. Then the parents went away and they had a party which went on until 1am they didn't inform us so my 2 children were kept up till then so I was fuming I spoke to her parents and they said I should have come around and told them to be quiet(far comment)I should have .2 years down the line I have had hundreds of balls over the garden causing damage ,broken windows, parties I snapped so I went round to confront them I didn't swear but I was shouting and told the boyfriend to back off as he was only the lodger(of which I do regret as its only my view)but they became very violent and shouting at me then the owner starting shouting slamming doors saying its only a ball and fence panels then he got violent and started punching his gate I left but since then my family have had to put up with loads more no balls though.Throughout all this time my husband had a brain tumour removed he has been back in work 6 weeks after and I have 2 mini stokes in the last year please help I am so fed up with this situation what can I do?

I live in a HMO, Neighbour told me off for using my toilet at 1.00am, he complained that he could hear the light switch click and the toilet flushing.

so we pulled up a dog waste bin out of the local park and put it in his front garden.

I moved in with my fiancé 5 years ago, he has had the same neighbors for 20 years. The side of our house is literally 5 steps away from the edge of his driveway. We have no fence in the front of the yard where his driveway and our yard is. He has been cool guy, and his 5 year old son often comes over to play with our kids. His garbage is always blowing into our yard, even though we have mentioned it several times. He has hit our mailbox at least 3 times with his 4-wheeler plowing snow off his driveway. We have a wood pile in the back yard for when we go camping, and he was drinking one night and burning weeds on his side of "chain-link" fence and if I had not smelled the smoke from in the house and came to see what it was he would have burned our shed down and possibly caught the house on fire. Last year ago he got a dog, its a
pitbull/lab mix. its the sweetest dog, but he lets it off the chain every morning to go "dump" in peoples yards and get into mischief. when he first got it it was jumping the fence and doing his thing all over our back yard. I mentioned it to him, and after some fence improvements it stopped. I have to keep the gates closed to keep him out. Now the dumb dog is getting into garbage somewhere and bringing it home . EVERY MORNING..., I find diapers, cups, and other household garbage in my yard. He knows about it and he does nothing. I don't want to have a bad relationship with our neighbor, but the dog has already gone to the pound several times and the guy just keeps getting him out an its still happening. I have even collected the junk and thrown it in HIS yard to pick up, but with no affect. What do I do now?

I live in an apartment complex with about 30 units in it.I have a problem with 2 different sets of neighbors oddly enough they live in the sama apartment seperate floors.the ones who live right down the hall from me have a 16 year old daughter who keeps filing false accusations against any adult male she gets a crush on who doesnt show her attention. She thinks its ok to do this because she is a little slow and her mom encourages it.The other nieghbors who live upstairs from the other ones, had an issue with one of my children and instead of coming and talking to me like an adult. She came down to my house scream at the top of her lungs she didnt say anything to me just kept yelling at my child. When she walked away my next door nieghbor came out telling her to calm down it is just kids being kids. She then came back down and threatened both me and my neighbor and said none of her kids could play with my kids.I said that was fine. She now makes it a point to send her kids in front of my apartment to play.the woman who lives below her has kids that are rude disrespectful and out of control and none of these kids are supervised for a large percentage of the day.the screaming lady has a 2 year old that is always walking in peoples apartments and rarely has any supervision at all. Please keep in mind my neighborhood is not one of the best ones as the cops are here 2 or 3 times a day.

The problem with our downstairs neighbour started when we needed to have work done on the building which is lease hold and a party share thing so all was well till we gave him a bill for a third of the works. His music got louder and went on for longer he would be abusive if we met him in the street. Started leaving rubbish all over the shared parking area our electric to the garage was disconnected. I got intouch with council about the noise and it did stop more or less at 2.30 this morning we awoke to the smell of smoke and burning only to find out he was having a bonfire under our window. Police were called but they say he is not breaking the law. What next and when will it end. And we are still out of pocket for all the building repairs as no-one has paid.

My neighbours rainwater waste pipe has been redirected from running onto my garage roof and is now running onto her front garden. However with the massive amount of rain we have had this year her garden is soaking wet and water has now started to go under my small boundary wall and under my block paving driveway and is beginning to lift the brick sets.
I paid out over £2000 to have a new roof on my garage nearly 5 years ago and do not want her to have the drainpipe redirected again onto my roof. It is out of the quetion to have a soakaway fitted in her property because of the way sewer pipes are running. She could have the pipe redirected into her grid at the back of her house but there again that is not practical as this grid also takes foul water from her kitchen. Is there an amicable solution to resolving this problem?

Just turn your nose up at them. Like they do to all of you. Your house is your house. Nothing much they can do about that. It's pointless bullying neighbours. What are they trying to get across? I don't get it. Nothing leads to nothing.

My previous neighbors were bad but two months ago neighbors from hell moved in,I live in a terraced house and the walls are paper thin and yes you.ve guessed it I can hear everything and i mean everything
The language is disgusting and that is towards even the three small children they have
They will obviously grow up to be the same
I have reported them to the council and i am waiting to see what can be done to sort this out but im not full of hope
Been in this street as a good neighbor for thirty five years, even worked for the local mediation service and still do voluntary work, is there any justice they are both on benefits have three small children the gardens front and back are more like a rubbish tip my heart goes out to the kids they have no chance with parents like them.

Can anyone help?? My partner and I brought our house a year ago, a month after we moved in a couple moved in next door. We spoke to them briefly and helped them with some of there belongings. She informed us she was unwell and suffered from M.S and her boyfriend suffered from M.E. They soon moved 4 dogs in to the small cottage and the problem has just become a nightmare. They received complaints from all the neighbours in the row regarding the constant barking through out the day and night. What upset us was they don't work but couldn't manage to take the dogs for a walk. After a month or two the problem got even worse, they decided to turn their back garden into a giant dog kennel, they didn't clean up after dogs, they didn't secure the garden and the barking got worse. The smell from the dog mess soon become so bad we couldn't even walk into our garden. Environmental health was called and the correct process was followed by the neighbours living the other side of them. We decided due to the situation effecting our relationship not to complain. They then decided walking to the back garden was to far for them and then turned the front garden into another dog kennel, they managed to devalue the property by around £10,000 in one afternoon.
They eventually got rid of the dogs because they weren't capable of looking after them.

I'd also like to mention the type of people they are makes all forms of communicating nearly impossible. We haven't spoken to them since the day they moved in due to feast of not being able to keep my cool. So I was very surprised to have a visit from a police officer informing me the was lady had accused me of trying to kill her dogs.. I was 6 months pregnant and was also told she was so scared for her life her "land lord" had to stay over of an evening??
My concern is they are just another couple claiming benefits as a way of making a living.

Its now 3months on and you guessed it all the dogs are back and in the garden. I'm extremely worried for the safety of my little girl, we have done all we can to ensure they cannot get in to our garden but I still don't feel safe. Is there a any thing we can do to ensure another summer isn't ruined?.c

I speak for personal experience, mediation doesn`t always work, simply because there are people in this world which are simply too ignorant or bad and evil to deal with. Then there is the police option but again the police will not help that much. Sollicitors are very expensive and not everybody can afford them. The UK law is too soft with housing issues. We have two abusive false mobility disabled prats downstairs ( the neightbourhood saw him walking on our ROOF several times ! and jump on our garbage bins in seconds, she is instead a mental fat b..ch from hell ) , they are just in rent but they act as they are the owners of the castel ! They are abusive and territorial in the worse way possible, always looking for a way to spite us or complain without a reason. We purchased our flat upstairs some years ago and we had good neightbours before, now with these two prats it is a complete nightmare and a costant battle ! They did nasty things to us from the very first day they arrived and they have been unfriendly from day 1. They even stole our gate 2 years ago when we were away which it is now on their garden, we have photos to prove it.They built 2 garages in front our kitchen without asking for any permission, so now we can`t clean our windows for their garages in the middle, plus we had over 4 months of hell for their builders renovating their flat and garden for free ! ( they use their false disability claims to get everything paid for them ! ).We phoned the police and the council which is investigating the situation.I do not undestand why the UK government allocated people of this type to nice good areas. These prats should live in a ghetto where they belong and not here.Unfortunately mediation is not possible with low life abusive scammers like these ones.

Funnily enough, you don't seem to mention calling in the police. I agree that mediation is best, but in some cases it simply won't work. The police aren't an ideal solution, as that escalates the conflict, but a visit from them might help resolve things. Alternatively, it could worsen them, but with visits from them on record you might be able to apply for an ASBO or whatever replaces it against your neighbours. As I say, it's hardly ideal, but if things are bad enough you'll be grateful in the end/

This is all well and good, but I have had terrible trouble with my next door neighbour - in a cul-de-sac in a private house. What happens then??? Tenants have more rights than home owners.
