How Common Are Neighbour Disputes?

Moving to a new home comes with plenty of worries, and for many people, the thought of ending up next to difficult neighbours ranks high on the list. Surveys in the UK have repeatedly found that neighbour problems affect a substantial number of households, though exact figures vary depending on how questions are framed and who is asked.

While many disagreements are minor and resolve themselves, others can escalate into ongoing problems that seriously affect quality of life. In more extreme cases, neighbour disputes have been cited as a reason for people selling their homes, with some homeowners reporting that ongoing problems influenced their decision to move more than factors like local schools or transport links.

What Causes Most Problems?

The issues that tend to cause friction between neighbours fall into a few predictable categories:

  • Noise complaints, including loud music, barking dogs, late night parties, or persistent disturbances at unsociable hours
  • Boundary disputes over fences, hedges, walls, or where one property ends and another begins
  • Parking problems such as blocked driveways, disputes over street parking, or vehicles left in inconvenient places
  • Overgrown gardens, hedges that block light, trees with overhanging branches, or unkempt properties
  • Anti-social behaviour including intimidation, harassment, or repeated nuisance behaviour

Noise complaints tend to top most surveys. Even relatively minor disturbances can become unbearable when they happen repeatedly or at times when you would reasonably expect peace and quiet.

Your situation may be slightly different. ask a question below ↓ and our editorial team will reply with our advice.

The Wider Impact

Neighbour disputes can affect more than just your day to day comfort. Ongoing problems may influence property values in the area, and visible signs of conflict or anti-social behaviour can make properties harder to sell.

There are also legal obligations to consider. When selling a property in England and Wales, you are required to complete a property information form that asks about disputes with neighbours. Failing to disclose known problems can lead to legal action from the buyer later on.

The stress of living next to difficult neighbours should not be underestimated either. Ongoing conflicts have been associated with anxiety, sleep problems, and general wellbeing issues, and the financial costs of legal fees or mediation can add further strain.

What Can You Do?

If you are experiencing problems with a neighbour, there are several options available depending on the nature of the dispute.

For many issues, a calm and direct conversation can resolve things before they escalate. This is not always possible, particularly where relationships have already broken down or where you feel unsafe approaching the other person.

Mediation services offer a structured way to address disputes with the help of a neutral third party. Many local councils provide access to community mediation schemes, often at no cost. This approach may be effective for boundary disputes, noise complaints, and other ongoing disagreements, though success depends on both parties being willing to engage.

For more serious matters involving harassment, threats, or persistent anti-social behaviour, your local council or the police may be able to help. Councils have powers to deal with statutory nuisances and can issue warnings or take enforcement action in some cases, though resources and responses vary between areas.

If you rent your home, your landlord or housing association may also have procedures for handling complaints. The GOV.UK website has a dedicated section on neighbour disputes that explains when councils or other authorities can get involved. If your situation involves a boundary dispute or property rights, you may need to seek legal advice.

@boby Honestly, that goes well beyond noisy neighbours and into harassment territory. The spitting, the indecent exposure from the bathroom window and the dangerous parking are all things the police will take seriously, so start logging dates, times and photos where you safely can. Report the exposure to 101 straight away, and raise the blocked driveway with your council's parking enforcement. Keep everything in writing from now on, because a proper paper trail is what gets these situations resolved.

Neighbours moved in 5 years ago and never spoke when i said hello or good morning.I felt they wanted to keep themselves to themselves and left it. I had put a perimeter fence all around garden and they painted their side with pale paint which ran through the panels and so i had to repaint my side. There was agap in the fence and their child would chat to my child through the gap and he was screemed at and told to not talk to my child. When a ball came over my fence i heard the parent say "we dont want it back we might get covid"When they had a second child they gave her the same name as my child which i find really bizarre. They have purchased identical garden furniture. They have same wallpaper (can see from window) same plants put into garden. They park across bottom of my drive even though there is space for 2 cars on their drive. They have a reguar visitor who reversed into my car in an attempt to get as close to the house as possible, raising my car off the ground and snapping reg plate in half. When i asked if they could pull forward to look at damage they became aggressive and swore at me twice,They spit when they see my children, the man urinates and baths in his bathroom without pulling down his bathroom blind which is clearly visible when we are in the garden, he looks and waves!

From my experience, past and present the problem with neighbours is always down to the same areas, a lack of awareness of their own actions and how they affect others, a lack of respect for others and their property and cars and a lack of self respect in general. Where I live we have landlords buying houses and renting them out to absolute morons, if you watch a film called idiocracy, 2006 Google and you’ll understand the level of people we now get. How can I improve the situation I am in? for starters you cannot argue with stupid people, Secondly most stupid people will resort to violence, threat of violence, intimidation or vandalism, it’s best to say nothing at all avoid any confrontation do not challenge them. Say hello and keep civil to avoid suspicion, but report them to every authority body you can, do not report to the landlord as they have been known to share the complainants details with the person. This will then come back on you. If you have a family kids and a partner if you confront the neighbours it puts them at risk too so think before you act. And remember in your head your “rocky” most fights never play out like this and you can get hurt. Be vigilant and covert.

My next door neighbours rear garden has always been a bit unkempt but since having building works done a year ago it looks like someone has fly tipped there! There's part of the old kitchen, sofa, carpet, inflatable hot tub and piles of general detritus and rubble. What's left of the lawn is growing very quickly with no effort to control it . It doesn't look like he's going to clean up any time soon and it's only a matter of time before they have rats and such. To compound the problem his soffits and facias are dangerously rotten and we are worried they may come down onto our property and cars. He's an arrogant, aggressive little tw-- so no one in our once friendly street will attempt to approach him.

I have rough neighbours renting a house next door to me in Maidstone, Kent, the man has a big, leased car that takes up two spaces. We paid to turn our front garden into a driveway as I never got a parking space as his car was always in front of my house. The woman's Dad lives 5 minutes walk around the corner, but he always drives to the house next door, (he isn't disabled, as he works as a part-time cleaner). He parks in front of my dropped kerb and blocks my driveway so that I cannot park my car onto my driveway when I get back in the garages. The other week I was waiting for my in-laws to turn up who were going to park on my driveway, but this man came along and park across, I asked him if he was dropping something off or parking there, and he started shouting at me "I will park wherever I want, if I want to park across your driveway all day then I will", he then walked up the path of his daughter's rented house shouting "I pay my road tax, I pay my road tax", I called him a few swear words after this. In the evening I had the daughter (who is around 45 and overweight) and her husband (nearly 70) shouting and screaming at me that I dared to swear at her dad. The man threatened me twice, I was quite calm about it as I have a Ring doorbell and a security camera on my house, which recorded their disgusting behaviour, I have since given some of the recording from the Ring doorbell to their landlord. Whether this will do any good or not who knows, I also reported it to the police and the local councillor.

If you want to avoid problem neighbours.....never buy next to asians. Indian... Pakistani... Bangladeshi

Just avoid like the plague

The noise and the entitlement will ruin the enjoyment of your property and they nearly always overextend if they have the money to move several different generations of their family in...and they don't care how it impacts you at all

Lived in a terrace, had to make a noise complaint (after talking to them nicely and then not stopping the noise) she was school deputy head, her son in met police, they had family on other side of us, 3 yrs nasty harassment from both sides because of noise complaint, health got so bad through stress, scraped together everything we had to buy a detached, so imagine my horror when new neighbours all winter let alone summer in garden until 4am lighting smelly fires all night, talking loudly, always people staying over, woman in day treats her children so badly I wonder whether to call child support services. Other side so deaf and lives at night, tv so loud that even with windows closed, even though detached and my bedroom not near his side, i hear his tv in my room! so depressed at my bad luck and feel cursed I'm beginning to feel suicidal, they are on my mind constantly that it has become a fear, and a dread in our new home that we spent every last penny on. Why are people so selfish?

We have horrible neighbours that moved in to us. The mother who previously lived there was awful as well.

The daughter is frequently drunk and staggering all over the place. Just 17 going on 70.
She gossips and slags me off and also upsets my mother who is 80 and in poor health.

We tried to be accommodating but unfortunately the bad feeling is such that we just don't want anything to do with them now.

She's a nightmare to deal with. Her partner drink drives. We caught it on our CCTV and reported it to the local police. I also had to request a harassment warning be sent to the partner who was staggering and when drunk is abusive to me.
They tried to get me convicted for harassment when the partner is like 20st 7

Both are clearly mentally ill. They said the same about me. But let them carry on.

I had damage done to my car and after all the behaviour. She abused me when drunk we have it on CCTV from August and again the incident of November where I was alleged to have sworn and did no such thing.

We have her builders approaching our delivery driver and our neighbour trying to slag us when they had no business doing so because she can't help herselves. I had to report it as a harassment claim.

The builders have since not come back. We have camera's as we don't feel safe living next door to a bipolar woman with alcohol issues and her frequently mentally ill partner.

We have had letters for debt sent to us. They started piling for their extension when I had exams. Just cannot stand them. It's really horrible having neighbours like that.

And given what Pete says there are two sides to a story. Our next door neighbour is ugly and sounds like a man. He looks like a sumo but both are very passive aggressive feigning the victim. Unfortunately we have it all on camera for nearly a year their behaviour.
Pete 02/08/2021 at 7:48 pm
I have a very sad woman next door, who constantly causes trouble and lies all the time. All the above things are included. I think she must be deranged, lonely and unloved because she has few friends or callers.
Why she gets pleasure from trouble is a puzzle what with these covid times you think she'd have other things on her mind?
Her life is empty- no holidays - no outings - no chores by the looks of it, she doesn't seem to have much in her life except malice which makes her a very sad creature.
As for her soul, what soul?
Some people are just washed out humans with no hope.
Maybe it's her looks, the lack of, I just don't really know!
To everyone else be strong.
The authorities have completely let down the people when it comes to dealing with this sort of thing, and that's worrying in a democracy.

@Feeling powerless. I sympathize some people are just selfish. I'd never want to upset my neighbours and luckily either side are lovely . But newish neighbours opposite have the ..it's my house, my garden I'll do what I like attitude. Had to hear her singing and screeching to bon Jovi and meatloaf and her voice is grating at best of times. My children had to sleep in my bed and now I have to swap rooms so I can put them to bed at a reasonable time . Not listen to them in their hot tub talking loudly. I don't mind a bit of noise but it's ridiculous. She's just brash and wants everyone to hear her. Not just me thats getting annoyed either .
Feeling powerless 16/06/2021 at 4:49 pm
Just reported loud music to the landlord she was warned but 2 weeks I get another call from landlord nuisance neighbour has called can't play music or have friends round.. I told the landlord(social housing) my problem has never been who she has in her home or backyard, my problem is loud music from loud speakers.. I get told how it's within the neighbours right to play loud music as long as its within the stipulated times... So how do we get protected from these selfish people? Thinking of involving a lawyer... Been keeping recordings and will continue to do so... Not spoken to the council yet but will certainly do so. Maybe as Asbo would work.

I have a problem neighbour too, its very distressing. I cannot use my back garden at all. My neighbour has a very small rear garden and has decided to keep bees. At times I have 3 hives up and running. He's bees constantly deficate on my laundry and my car is also covered in excrement. Apparently anyone can put as many hives as they like on their garden and right upto boundary fences. The flight path is over my garden and I mean head height. No chance of sitting out in my garden at all. On top of that he has been encouraging rats, and for a while I had to contend with rats as well as bees. He said he was feeding the birds. Come autumn the bees attract wasps. My neighbour is a real joy.

Hello, came across this thread as couldn’t sleep and I also wanted to share our story. Me and my husband bought our 1st house, got married, wanting a family and quiet life. Our neighbourhood is so quiet and we hardly see anyone, as either pensioners or working class people around till lockdown hit and our neighbour next door (single lady in her early 40) started working from home and leaving her german shephard dog barking in the garden from 6am till midnight sometimes 4am I would wake up it barking in the garden. We never expected this from her as she said she worked for government, property is well maintained, clean so it all was a shock to us for her to do that. When we tried to speak to her about it she racially abused us (we are not english) and blamed the barking on everyone else. We have police and council involved but to no resolve as expected we are made feel invisible and not important so we decided to sell the house as our mental health has suffered plus I am heavily pregnant and I cannot raise my 1st baby in this situation. The barking is constant, plus loud metal music is put on as soon as we go in our garden, constant staring and intimidation from her, looking over our fences, it is utterly unbearable and we cannot wait to move out. We just hope the next buyer doesn’t mind the dog barking and that they are english. We feel so heartbroken to have to go back to renting again after so many years of hard work and saving but we value our mental health and our baby’s development that we have no choice as we did not get any support from our neighbours and authorities have always excuses for doing their job. I feel very sorry for all of you and feel for everyone of you and wish that these people get what they deserve at the end... After 17 years living and working (never claimed a penny for anything) in England I would never dream I would be told that I am an illegal immigrant and that my marriage is fake while being pregnant by a woman who feels we do not have right to even breath the same air as we are not english. We are so sad and depressed and if it wasn’t for my husband and his business we would move somewhere in the country with nobody around it is my dream! As I have become so not wanted to see people or have any relation with anyone around. We pray for everyone who is suffering that another door will open for all of us where we can find peace and ourselves again.

I lived in a rental semi and next door to a punk for 10years, then moved to a quiet terrace only for a lady to move next door 2 years later and wreck the walls so we could hear every little thing. So we moved to a detached. Sadly I was only looking at the house and the school for my son. I wish I’d sat outside the house a lot more as during lockdown the people that back on to us are completely unbearable. Leaf blower most days, basket ball, shouting, I’m sure the kids don’t go to school, music, they leave their dog in a shed quite often and it’s barks into the night. People are scared of them as they aren’t the nicest of people. Think they are the traveler type. We plan to do up the house and move in a couple of years but I feel like we’re going to be trapped. Why do people think it’s ok to be so disrespectful.

Sparkle , my heart goes out to you and your lovely sensitive son .

Here are my thoughts , you are obviously an empath who feels for and considers others feelings when in this world there are many who dont and wont . So you must learn to put your son and your family first and ignore this selfish womans remarks . How dare she criticise your son while he is struggling . Be strong , turn away and live your life without a thought for her . Dont let it cause more issues with your boy . He is a sensitive soul who needs much love from you .

If she doesnt like it let her move . Much love x

We have lived in our home for 5 years but it was previously owned by my parents. The neighbours have lived there since my parents bought the house 30 years ago. She’s always been a bit of a misery and not what you would call a nice neighbour. They have grown up children who have moved out. We have two children aged 15 and 12. Sadly my mum died several months ago (my children saw her every day) and it was sudden and very traumatic and since then my 12 year old has developed a ‘tic’ which has resulted in him making a barking/throat clearing sound. It is awful and can be constant. We live in a semi detached house and the walls are quite thin. We have been to the GP and he has been referred to CAHMS, Action for Children, etc but we are on waiting lists as they are inundated since the covid pandemic and so many children struggling with their mental health. Our neighbour has knocked to say that she can’t take it anymore and we need to do something about it. What she thinks we can do I don’t know. He doesn’t even know he is doing it half the time. He is so upset and crying now and the best of it is when he is stressed he makes the noise all the more. I feel I don’t want to live here anymore even though it used to be my parents home and we have such lovely memories here (my dad has passed away as well). I don’t think we could afford to move somewhere else as we are in ‘mortgage prison’ so I wonder about selling up and renting? I just can’t believe she has complained, especially when I have told her of his condition that developed since mum died as she asked if we had brought a dog. I’m so angry with myself as we used to live in such a lovely house and area with nice neighbours but moved here as couldn’t bear to see the family house sold to strangers. What a mistake I feel I have made. Any advice?
Bitsy 07/02/2021 at 3:51 am
Like ricky3star we lived in a 3 bed semi for 25 years, the next doors neighbours son was 10 when we moved in,already he was swearing and verbally abusing his parents who were too weak to resolve the situation.Over the years it got worse, when he reached 35 he erected an eyesore of a shed and belted rock music out till 2 am,we couldn't, sleep in the rear bedroom of the house, trying to sort it out with his parents was useless, they,by now in their early 70,s were somewhat fearful of him.Somewhat reluctantly we sold up,fortunately we were in a position to buy a detached house,we are not snobs but the thought of buying another semi and perhaps reliving the nightmare again was too much.We waited years hoping he would move out when he was in his 20.s, it never happened,my advice to anyone in this situation is get out as soon as you can, because 90% of the time it never gets better, only worse, even if you are reasonable and polite in requesting them to be quieter. My only regret is not getting out sooner, concil authorities can sometimes help but in my opinion after you lodge a complaint the guilty parties know they are lowering your quality of life and do it all the more, also it can make it difficult to sell your house, when we moved our estate agent said he couldn't,t sell terraced housing easily anymore because of noise problems,I think noise issues are affecting semi detached housing increasingly now because more and more people seem to care less and less about the pain and suffering they inflict on others.
Moo21 25/01/2021 at 2:02 pm
We are at our wits end. Our neighbour is loud, aggressive, volatile etc. We suffer loud music at random times, day and night. She is abusive and threatening and a danger to others. Police, council and housing don't seem to have any control over this. She has numerous offences against her but because she suffers from mental health issues she seems to get away with it. Myself and my partners quality of life and health have suffered enormously. I am scared to even leave the house. We want to sell up and move but would struggle to sell with her next door. We feel so trapped.
Going mad 14/01/2021 at 5:43 pm
I had a lovely old guy that moved next door ten years ago. Then a couple moved in with 3 kids in a semi 3 bed house and now have 8 kids and two Rottweiler.

My personality has changed and I’m always on edge from the dance music. The guy mends cars he’s outside banging past 9pm. Went to the council twice and now can’t sell my home properly due to these people who have no understanding of how to behave in a decent way to neighbours.
They have reduced me to tears on many occasions and the council have to have constant noise these lot are very clever and it’s Radom at different times of the day.
It’s hell and no one understands unless they have been there, you end up seen as some crazy fool??

I feel for you all life is torture with bad neighbours , i know ive suffered 3 years until they moved out , the house is now rented to family members who are quiet, but im left with the emotional bruises from the horrendous parties which would go on 12 hours and more . No support from my other neighbours, i dealt with it myself . Anti social team wrote letters but they were ignored .

My whole personality has changed thanks to those who own the house attached to mine , i am no longer the smiling neighbour i used to be , at one time i would greet people who lived next door but now i keep my eyes lowered , its best to remain distant , being nice can be seen as being weak , and they abused my nice . My best wishes to you all , i feel for you

After 19yrs living under horrible neighbours in a council flat the situation finally came to a head when myself and my daughter were threatened after asking them be be quite at 5.30am. They also threatened to poison my dog. I managed to swap flats and moved. After a few weeks, in moved a lunatic to the flat below me. He beat his girlfriend, there was a young baby in there which was heartbreaking to listen to. He used to shoot the garden birds in my garden and all my solar ornaments with a high powered gas air gun. I reported him to to police and council but didn't make any difference. He also threatened me and my daughter. I finally managed to buy my own home and thought I had escaped to a quiet terraced row only to find I had moved next to a half way house run by the council (not been told by the seller) OMG hell on earth. drugs, drunks, noise, filthy house with rats which came into my roof. We are on neighbour number 9 in only 5yrs it's New Years eve they have just moved in 2 very loud dogs and TV cinema size bellowing through wall. Can't take much more of this. Happy New Year. There should be a law to help protect peoples right to live in peace and quiet also not to be threatened. I have worked hard all my life and to finally own my own home was a dream its fast turned into a nightmare.

Hi there,

First of all, thank goodness there is a site like this, to vent common problems and stories to do with horrid neighbours.

My family, (though not perfect ourselves, but better than most) have been subject, to general ignorance, nosey ness, intimidation tactics, door slamming, dog barking, and plenty of rudeness over the years. I can’t believe these type of people exist, a bit vague in my description of events, there is a hell of a lot to tell! Wow what an eye opener!

Did want to say that from reading all of the comments, the re occurring themes I get from you all is that, it is quite a lonely place to be put in this position, it is desperate, and there is very little hope of resolve, I cant believe how disgusting some people have become of modern times, selfish, rude, entitled, and just very very ignorant. I have noticed this past year in particular.

Thank you.
Samaritan 28/12/2020 at 3:59 pm
I read the comments on here often as i was also a victim of anti social behaviour but a miracle happened and they rented out their house to a quieter family who are relatives of theirs, 3 years of disgusting behaviour too much to mention , my story was on here a couple of times . My heart feels deeply for all of you who suffer .

I just do not understand how these people are allowed to create hell for decent living people , why isnt a law brought in to help and protect us .

I will move if the vile creatures who own the attached house to me ever move ba k in i could never live with the hell i went through again .

So sorry for you all

I've vile neighbours also.I complained to the council about their excessive noise and antisocial behaviour waking me up when I've to be up at 4.30 for the day shift.Obviously they dont work or do very little work on the side.Up all night and asleep all day.I had threats from their family members that I'd be beaten up and almost got killed by the grandsons friend mounting the pavement in his car outside my house to scare me.The police havent been any help.Theyre a well-known local "hard" family, the police are often there but it never goes any further. The council sent out the necessary letters, made the necessary phone calls, seemed to work for a while. Now the teenage grandsons taken it outside at all hours, whistling under my bedroom window, shaking the fence, alone and with friends, blowing skunk fumes through the airbrick in the living room. The males are always looking in.The 60 odd year old grandfather lurks about when I go out to work at 5.30 am,whistling so I know he's there.Im a 56 year old woman who lives alone,I own my home, they rent from the council. To say I'm fed up is an understatement,I've had one or another form of harassment for almost a year.Where do these scumbags come from? How do they get away with it? The police have made me feel I'm complaining for nothing and the council want proof of the noise, which is now sporadic once they knew I'd been given the noise app to record them.I can't catch the worst noise, usually in the middle of the night. But it helps to know it's not just me,as sometimes it gets me very down.

Having real problem with my neighbour. When i first moved in they got a huge extension built, whole house renovated etc.working weekends.we had some issues because they ripped down our fence and placed building materials overnight in my garden. Spoke to them/builders about this and at the time seemed sympathetic and that they understood. Only other issue has been once they blared music so loud you could hear it word for word and we asked them to turn it down.

Years later, we are in the position of renovating our house along with having a baby. My partner and his dad do most of the work themselves (within recommended hours aside from once which we apologised for) and they were aware of this as we seemed to have a good relationship beforehand. Now they have began working night-shift again ive had posts on facebook about me, my partner being questioned and shouted at in the street as to when and what was being done and when and then yesterday had a man (who didnt say who he was) come to my door to ask me if we were doing anything because they heard noise, when in fact it was someone else on the street. I tried to speak to my neighbour who didnt answer the door.

At a complete loss, i have spoken to them before but next day a facebook post again they said they didnt want us chapping letting them know when we were working as its during the day its allowed. But what do they want? I know the noise is irritating but we do try our best. I just can't figure out how to move forward. For me personally it was a step too far. They have never came to the door to ask us or discuss but sent someone else to do their dirty work?

Any advice? Thanks
Lou 20/12/2020 at 4:24 pm
I have to sympathise with everyone on here. We are semi-detached and in the same situation. We live next door to a couple who are old enough to be our parents. They slam every door in their house constantly, have a very noisy dog and have friends round every Friday and Saturday night until 1/2am and keep us up and with whom they sit in the garden with in the summer swearing and being racist and homophobic. My fiancé is a police officer and works shifts and they have taken no notice of what he has said. I have taken the view that we won’t be pushed out of the home that we work hard for by people like this and the law firm that I work for has wrote to them. They sent their vile son round and I don’t think he probably anticipated the response he got. We will now take them to court and deal with whatever when we want to move but for now, we have had enough and they deserve nothing less than what they are getting.

How would readers handle this awkward situation? My family own a semi-detached property in which we have resided for thirty years. We have a drive suitable to accommodate three vehicles but have only had one car. Unfortunately, we are no longer able to use our drive. The house directly across from us now have three cars parked up on the road. Since the mother of the household bought a 4 x4 this is now restricting us driving up to our house, which is in a cul-de-sac, to manoeuvre into our driveway. We have to try to park on our drop kerb. We cannot back in as the turning circle always has a vehicle parked there, again, restricting us. Of late, this 4 x 4 is being parked across from our vehicle. Bin wagons and delivery vans, also neighbours have started complaining there is insufficient room between the vehicles. I cannot park either side of the drop kerb. I’m at my wits end and my husband wants to move house. Any offer of guidance will be gratefully received. I have approached the owner of the 4 x 4 in person and recently by letter, very polite and courteous but I now have lost patience. This selfishness is causing us a great deal of stress.

I have moved to a property 16 months ago and I have a nuisance neighbour who likes to rev his car all day.I have phoned the houseing who dont seem to care and I have phoned the council. I have been told by a neighbour that he has been warned about the cars for years but still decides to rev them even which he doesnt have a licence. No respect for others.Im getting to the point where I want to punch him in his ugly face

Like many of you, I also find solace knowing that I'm not alone. We live next door to a vile family (our story is similar to that of MW1982). The parents defend their teenagers behaviour and say they can do whatever they like. They are renters - letting agent has washed their hands off the problem. The council weren't much help. Now I've approached our local councillors for help - will see how that goes. Definitely worth a shot.

Just reading everyone's comments. It may seem abit selfish that I'm a little relieved im not the only one suffering as most of the time I feel I am. Iv been in my flat 2 years new neighbours upstairs moved in a year ago its been nothing but hell. I'm 25 and hes nearly 40 with his younger girlfriend he bangs on the floor early hours of the morning. Hes been to my door kicking it when iv come in late from work about the bins hes spread rumors about me that are not true and tried to turn other neighbours against me he says its just a game. I feel he isn't wired properly because his behaviour is disgusting. He's been rude to my mum when she has visited he stands outside when I leave my house and stares hes very loud and aggressive and trying to bully me I can't take anymore and I need to move as I am feeling very mentally unstable like I am about to snap any minute I can not take much more of this iv got to pack up and leave. Yet again tonight no sleep as been woken by him on the phone shouting and winding his dog up. The joys of trying to have a peaceful life ey.

Our awful ASB council bungalow neighbours are well known to the police, local council and ASB Team but for some reason they have never been punished. They terrorised one elderly lady out of her home in February this year. We have been there for only a few months but have also had to leave our home because of their terrorist behaviour. The law needs to change to protect innocent people and seriously punish the troublemakers. We are currently in a 'place of safety' awaiting rehousing, hopefully this side of xmas.

Our family moved into a semi detached house 5 years ago.
The neighbours for 4 years would do doy up till 9.30pm most days. Drilling party walls hammering. They built a man cave and would have parties with 30plus people shouting music blaring till 3am. No one will confront them and when they do they say it's not all the time and it will stop at 11pm.Then they had another baby were quiet for 3 months, then back with avengance. Then the converted attic the 17 year old son moved in. The attic is not to regulation and not sound insulated so we hear him shouting all day and night in every room of the house.
Have to have tv's and fans on constantly to minimise the noise. Will not complain formally as you can't sell your house. The law needs to change that if it's proved they cause a nusianse a few times a year the mortgage company reposses the house and the police move them on. Why should the victims be the ones peonalised if they complain and then can't sell to have a normal life?

Hi there I took some comfort in realising I am not alone with noise problems. I live in a new build flat and my neighbours above bought a puppy 6 months ago. For the last 6 months my life has been a living nightmare as they have laminate flooring and the puppy jumps about all day and all night! Yes I hear it in my bedroom all hours of the morning .. my neighbours were apologetic and got thicker under lay for living room but it’s not made a difference and laminate is not allowed in our flats. Don’t know what else to do .. except move :( my home is now my office so I have no escape

I have lived next door to a student house for 9 years. The current residents are a nuisance doing drugs, banging on our walls for their own amusement, shouting over each other, and slamming doors, windows, cupboards etc over and over.It was hard enough getting to sleep but I kept waking up in the night and so began to put my phone on record. To my horror they were knocking on the party wall at night deliberately to wake us up. Now obviously I have gone to the letting agents, who after 3 letters say there is nothing more they can do. I have also asked the council to open a noise complaint, which they have but when I asked the police for help they have said there is nothing they can or will do. Tonight they woke myself up in my room and they were knocking on the wall next to my sons bed and woke him up too. These students are incredibly immature. They get so drunk and then do drugs that they are out of control. Does anyone know if there's any help or support we can get. It's really getting me down. I knocked on their door to complain but they just don't answer. It feels like harrassment and I need my sleep.

Have lived here for nearly 13 years and neighbours have been fine, up until 3 years ago! They already had 4 children, eldest one has Down Syndrome. They decided to have another child and then another one a year later! I forgot to mention they live in a two bed house, same as myself. So now there are 8 people in total in there, and all she does is scream at them like a woman possessed. They really are the neighbours from hell

I have an ongoing problem with my neighbours below me. I live in flat on the top floor (2nd) neighbours below me slam doors shout and swear at us. They have loud TV up in the bedroom which is right below our bedroom. They bang on to things on purpose and laugh. I’ve complained to the council just have trouble gathering the evidence as walls are thin they know when someone’s here. My neighbours are a bunch of bullies they won’t say anything to your face but in their flat they will do what they can to cause nuisance. I can’t wait to move out from here it’s only been 2 years here. They started making noise since we moved in
Dee Dee 19/07/2020 at 8:01 pm
I have lived in my current home over 20 years & never had problems with neighbours. However, 3 years ago a new family moved in next door & have taken outdoor living to the extreme.
They have built a canopied kitchen, bbq & bar area, complete with dartboard & outdoor TV, right up against our boundary fence. All weekend, every weekend & sometimes week nights from spring till autumn they party outside with up to 30 guests. Last September they installed a stove so they could continue into the autumn. The smoke comes into our garden & windows & makes the house smell. All day & late into the night we have to put up with loud music, sport radio & whatever they’re watching on TV.
They take no notice of polite requests to quieten down & we don’t want to get into a formal dispute as it would have to be declared should we try to sell the house, which we can’t afford to do at the moment.
I honestly don’t know what to do other than try to find somewhere to go every weekend. We can’t invite friends round anymore or even sit in the garden ourselves.
It’s good to know we’re not alone in having these issues, but awful to think so many of us are being bullied & made miserable in our own homes this way!

I just want to say that I feel sympathetic towards Louise.
I also endure persistent and tormenting antisocial behavior from my neighbors.
In addition to that, the problems are made worse by living on an estate where everyone lives in close proximity without any soundproof insulation at all.
Therefore it is often difficult to sit in my flat and enjoy a measure of peace
without hearing doors slamming, children running back and forth with the sound of their feet pounding sometimes all day.
My landlord is unhelpful and dismisses it as " household noise" rather than anti social behavior.
To make matters worse, my landlord will publish a two page leaflet warning tenants about the " tenancy agreement" while mentioning a growing number of complaints from tenants about noise nusiance; and yet this problem is to a great extent, exacerbated by the poor quality of the flats, cramped conditions and a lack of soundproofing insulation, but they accept no responsibility and place the blame on the trouble making, self serving, woefully inept hypocrites more commonly known as the Government.
I hope that you'll endure Louise and that to know that many other people are suffering in similar conditions
will comfort you when you feel hopeless.
Best wishes to you.

I am persistently having issues with my neighbours through loud music at all times, sometimes in proper hours, sometimes out of social hours. Slamming of doors to the point the tremors come through to my house. I am woken up by them every evening slamming their patio door, and this can go on unitl 3am in the morning. I have lived with this for 5 years with only speaking to them on one occasion when I had a finger pointed into my face telling me "we are from London, we are used to noise and its our house we can do as we please". I can find ways of trying to cope with it most times, but sometimes I feel excessively trapped as I cannot afford to move anywhere else.

Homeowner of mid terraced property, stayed at this address for 10 years without any hassle. last year has been a nightmare, previous neighbours at either side of us moved to either bigger house or carehome due to old age.
Local council have housed animals at each side of us. at one side we have a couple who were released from prison and do not work, they have alcohol drug addictions and stay up all night and shout and argue and bang doors. we started to report them to local council, we were told the reason they got house was that council cannot discriminate, we have had police out 10 times, council have warned them 20 times in last year yet we are still waiting for them to be evicted. in this time, our front door has been glued shut, we had an attempted break in when we were away on holiday and our car has been keyed. at other side are a young couple with kids who fight and argue at all hours of morning with kids screaming, again they do not work. at our wits end, My wife has MS and all this has had huge impact on our health.

I used to come on here all the time to complain about my antisocial neighbours for like several years. Nothing happened.

I went to police, council and nothing was resolved.

I moved at it all stopped, now I live a someWHAT normal life. Dear people, try moving house, it will solve all your problems.

I have a nasty neighbour, passes me in the street and always says something nasty.

Best thing to do is to move to another house, once the problems start it never ends.

We have lived in our family home for nearly 20 years and thankfully have some lovely neighbours. Sadly the house next door is owned by a property company and rented out. We have been lucky that so far all of the tennants have been okay. However a new person has started work for the landlord company and has demanded that we cut the trees to the border at the rear if our two properties down to 2 metres and that we remove the rubbish from their access which runs to the side of our home and that we pay £1700 for the repairs to their drain and patio. We have sought advice from the council about the trees which have nesting birds and have been at the property since it was built some 30 years ago and they said that nothing can be done until October after nesting season but in any case the landlord would have to submit a request. We spoke to the property developer and they confirmed that the access is the responsibility of the neighbours and we have informed the landlord of this several times and that the rubbish is not ours. We have also refused to pay the invoice they sent us for their patio and drain as we were not informed about it and strongly believe that it's nothing to do with us. However they have threatened us with solicitors and continue to harass and bully us making us feel uncomfortable in our own home and very distressed and we don't feel we have done anything wrong. However as we are not the tennants where do we go for help or to complain other than to have to go to the expenditure of employing our own solicitor.

Lived in our 3 bedroom mid terrace property for 7 years now,. Spent over 20 grand doing it up. Next door sold up, someone else bought it to rent out, fair enough. 1st couple were fine but they moved out after a year as they couldn't afford the rent. A couple have just moved in back beginning of February with 2 aggressive dogs. They are fairly quiet but a couple of weeks back they started chewing away at our closeboard fence. My wife went to have a word with them, asked them if they could do something to stop the dogs chewing the fence. They didn't seem bothered about the damage and have just left the dogs to carry on doing their thing. This week they've chewed a hole big enough to get their heads through now. These dogs are never walked and seem to be very annoyed whenever our cat is in our garden. What do we do now?? This closeboard fence cost over £700 back in 2013 and was in good condition until this happened ??

Lived in our semi for 16 years now. Neighbours before were great. New ones moved in 6 years ago and are a different story all together. Family of 4, mum works p/t the husband seems yo work p/t also and he is very anti-social and rude. They had a parrot that made lots of noise, that died so they replaced it was two very happy Jack rusells who bark all day at everything and anything !.
They have 2 children, one who is now a teenager with special needs. We've always taken that into account as the kids were growing up but lately the shouting and screaming that comes through the walls is unbearable . The whole family seem to be unable to communicate without shouting loudly at one another.
I have mentioned to her about the dogs and she said she would check it but if anything the barking has increased .
I'm trying to be a good neighbour and try to ignore the noise but I'm really struggling with it. It's constant and I'm so fed up with them

We live in a caravan on a park. Our neighbour has three dogs, she leaves these dogs up to nine hours a day whilst she works. The dogs howl when she leaves them even though she puts music on loud for them so that they can’t hear outside activities. These dogs can hear as when I’m out in the garden they start barking and jumping up at the windows. I think it’s a criminal offence she is committing. I’m up early in the morning because the radio wakens me up. This problem has been going on now for some time. She tells a couple of neighbors that her daughter comes to see to the dogs but I have never seen her. This woman is lying. I just don’t know what to do. Because of this I do not speak to her as she knows I know what she’s doing and it’s wrong. I’m not a person to complain or report but this is making me so unhappy. I’m now seventy year old and I need peace and quiet

We moved into a new home 13yrs ago, initially the neighbours were great, then winter came and their smoke was thick, nasty and coming into our home. We approached them to inform them so they could rectify the situation. Their response was to become the Neighbours from Hell. They constantly smoke us out and have told the whole neighbourhood we are terrible neighbours. We kept a diary and had the EPA travel blanket for several weeks collecting the data to prove what was hapenning. The Council took no action, the neighbour increased the smoke output. We now have to bear the cost either the excess smoke or move. We have never had neighbours like this before.

We move to our new home in 2013.
My neighbour has installed a sercuity system that intrudes on our privacy constantly when operated the security light shines into our home and the cameras are always change position when we're in the garden or move room to room.
How do l prove that our privacy is being breached..?
ProblemNeighbours Editor 21/02/2018 at 10:50 am
See what their landlord says but a few other things to try are:
- Contact RSPCA about the state of the dogs and their environment
- Contact environmental health about the noise/mess/neighbour nuisance
- If the children are really playing outside around unremoved dog faeces perhaps you could contact a heath visitor or social services
- Consider mediation to see if you can come to some agreement with the family on what they can do to help this situation. Clearly they're struggling but keeping three dogs is probably something that's exacerbating their problems etc.

We moved into our mid terrace two years ago and got on with the neighbours fine. Last Easter, the couple on one side split up and she moved out, leaving her two boys and two dogs behind. Since then, we had nearly 6 months of the dogs howling every time they were left, even for ten minutes ( I work from home so was able to keep a noise diary) one night it was so bad I recorded it through the walls and sent it on a message to her ex who still lives there with the kids. He didn’t respond but the week after the dogs were removed. Since November, she is now back during the day to look after the kids when they finish at lunchtime and mid afternoon as he can no longer afford childcare. She now has 3 dogs which get kicked out the yard in all weathers and constantly bark, howl and throw themselves at the back door wanting to be let back in. In addition to that, their yard is full of dog poo for weeks on end and the 4 year old plays amongst it. She arrives at 6.45am every morning now, slamming back door about 10/15 times in space of half hour and leaves dogs out as soon as she gets there. Were up at 7.15 and can’t eat breakfast in the kitchen due to the noise. Also, their 11 year old has one of these scooters and is out sometimes on back steps or front path till 11.30pm bouncing up and down. Sometimes she leaves the dogs behind when she goes back to her new place and he leaves the, out from about 6-7.30pm meaning we can no longer eat in the kitchen as they are constantly barking. They rent from a private landlord whom we are going to see this evening with recordings and picture of the state of the yard. We are considering bringing our seaside retirement plans forward by 10 years and putting the house up for sale. We didn’t want to move again after only a couple of years but we don’t see any other option.
ProblemNeighbours Editor 27/07/2017 at 12:02 pm
From what you've said, the police should have dealt with the violent incident. There is no offence in lighting scented candles or planting trees unfortunately so there's not a great deal you can do. A tree owner is not obliged to cut back any branches that overhang a neighbour's garden but your are entitled to do so yourself if you choose. Incidentally a flag pole often required planning permission, so your neighbour should have been consulted about this and objected via official processes. Just ignore the complaining, that's all we can really advise, sorry. Maybe once your neighbour's trees have grown, they will not be so easily affected by anything you choose to do in your garden.
Old spark 23/07/2017 at 1:08 pm
My wife and I bought a bungalow 14 years ago and have got on with most of the neighbours except for next door who live in a three storey house with a loft conversion, they can see the rear of some of the properties, they are constantly lighting jos-stick or scented candles when we have BBQ's or friends over and we sit in our garden, They start up their petrol lawn mower without cutting the grass, they have complained about our decking, my garden lighting, my wind chimes, (which are tied up when its very windy),my gazebos, and generally anything that they do not like, the final straw? came when we erected a flag pole and the said neighbour threatened me with physical violence if I did not remove it. I am over 70 years old and the neighbours are in there late 50's? They have now started to do the same with the new neighbours who moved into the other side of them, I started to treat it all as a joke but it is now wearing me down and have a lot of sleepless nights, what can I do please I am at my wits end and we are too old and infirm to move. they have planted a lot of high trees which over hang our garden, which need constant cutting back (all down to me). The police were called over the flag pole incident but the rest has just got worse.

Hi
We moved into our mid terraced house nearly 2 years ago now as we had 2 young children. When we arrived we started to notice after 3 months that our neighbours were changing very frequently. We found out this was because they were using the flat next door as housing for foster children aged 17 as a stop gap for when they turned 18. We have been through hell with 3 of these neighbours the 3rd currently ongoing now. Every time we try and contact the council they just say they will send a letter to the carers and let them know and still nothing gets done. The young boy will constantly have groups of friends around every night making loud noise shouting banging and smoking cannabis. Is there any other route I can go down in this battle otherwise I think we are going to have to move property

Hi, we've been in our first semi-detached Victorian house for a week. So far I have had to make a social care referral and call the police to the address. The volume of Children in despair amongst screaming arguing is causing me to have panic attacks. There is not one room in our home that isn't filled by her shrieking. We have had a estimation for soundproofing but as the bangs are through safety gates, kids running I don't feel that wall insulation will help. We just want to sell and move on as realistically what will change? Please can someone give me some good news or support?

live with my parents everything was fine till we got new neighbours next door two years ago everyone makes noise at sometime just having to listen to banging and slamming doors and shouting through two walls at 7 or 8am every morning drove us mad and was the parents doing it to. their kids kept deliberately throwing things into garden and at our window just to get our attention. we've had a word the throwing things has stopped the shouting and banging still goes on if we run a tap in the bathroom or put shower on sometimes kids keep banging on the wall it's really annoying. is awkward if we see them now as just ignor us or give you a look. I suffer from depression and anxiety so ain't helping just wish i could move. this house is bought and didn't want to phone council because it could affect the selling of it what should we do. help
JayJay 23/07/2016 at 9:42 pm
My next door neighbour has a wall dividing off my drive from theirs. Its along the shared boundary which I have no problem with. However, if I go near the edge of my boundary or brush by their wall she comes out and screams at me to stay clear of her wall although it is running along our shared boundary line. What are my rights?

Hi I have mild learning disabilities and problems with anxiety and depression and don't like my next door neighbors as at the weekends their daughters and their children come around all they do is shout and scream at each other and thier grandchildren esp 2 young girls about aged 8 to 10 yrs old stare and laugh at me and often throw toys and balls at my dog which is the only company I have as my parents died and only have help from support workers twice a week I feel uneasy with them not sure how to handle them next door they scream and shout from 9am to 6pm then the man and woman argue at 2am when they been drinking.

We moved into our property at Christmas. We had to sign a year tenancy with a letting agent as they do not do six months, It is what we thought a quiet country property with just one couple and a young family living next door with two dogs. The father is a farm labourer and works 14 hours a day. His wife stays at home. Their employer was able to secure the property for them while we had to go through all the proper checks. Within a couple of weeks of living next door to Bonnie And Clyde and no that is not the dogs names but my nickname for my neighbours it was apparent that they were no normal family. Very quickly the young mother when the husband was out would terrorise my partner viciously with bangs of every descriptions, screams, loud shouting , setting the dog on us, spying constantly on us both that is almost like stalking, spreading hateful lies around what is a small farming village community so that now we are intimidated by the what again I have termed the local farming mafia of young farmers who go past our property honking their horns all the time. Weekends are a joy to behold. If is not the wife taunting, stalking and harassing us by shouting and screaming or showing her bizarre and erratic behaviour while we hide from her in our caravan for safety to escape her evil clutches its the farm labouring husband from hell with his power tools of every description as he saws down every tree, hedge, and shrub in his vicinity for twelve hours a day in what is actually a rented property and if that is not enough we have to stand by and see his so called dodgy illegal activities and be too scared to do anything.
We have informed the agent who now knows but to add insult to injury we are going to have to pay thousands to escape Bonnie and Clyde but I think its well worth it as I am prepared to prepared to pay the ransom asked and escape the Wild West Of The Local Village And So Called Nice Farming Community and escape back over the border into normality again.

just wanted to say having nasty nosey neighbours is a nightmare. I live in an area that when I first moved in thought it wasn't too bad. However I quickly realised that the 'neighbours' were only nice if they had right of way. I won't discuss the kids because it would take too long. I'll tell you a bit about my neighbours on either side. At one point I went in hospital to have an emergency op and finally when I came home I had friends and teachers taking my daughter to and from school. The old couple at one side made a point of asking my friends who were on the drive for less than five minutes to move their cars. When on the third or fourth occasion this happened I refused to comply and got a load of abusive language. Further altercations occurred after that , more abuse when a shuttlecock landed on their car , further abusive language at any opportunity after which I began informing police of all conversations and got them to log everything. Neighbours at the otherside she is a disgusting loudmouthed person who shouted abuse out of window at me , told me shed been writing nasty things about me on facebook and began complaining about my dog. My sister was diagnosed as terminally ill and sadly died last year , not before i'd had to have a ' mediation ' meeting with the housing regarding disputes with this neighbour. I sat in an office listening to my neighbour tell the housing of all the jobs she had reported at my address trying to make me look like a ' bad tenant' and demanding to know why I had not put my bin out, and why I cut my hedge with 'scissors'. This neighbour while spouting all this rubbish to the housing robbed me of precious time i should have been spending with my sister. The fact of the matter is that she went home having a good laugh about it all whereas I went home to a call from the paramedics asking me to meet them at my
sister's property whereby I accompanied them with her to hospital to be resusitated. Sadly , my sister did not live much longer. I've had this neighbour , a cleaner , shouting at me to get off my fat arse and get a job while I was caring for my terminally ill sister and not claiming a carers' allowance I might add. I am a post graduate , not someone with limited work skills.Unfortuately, we still live at this address but are planning to move. My daughter hates them all, as do I but pray one day when they have family crises horrible, selfish spiteful neighbours like these finally get their comeuppance.

My next door neighbour garden is full of weeds and brambles it is now 6/8ft high some where in there is a shed.
She has her telly and radio on at same time very loud.
Hovers walls at 2am.
My son hardly sleeps because of the noise we have shouted at her to turn it down especially when we going to bed.
Is there any thing we can do
ProblemNeighbours Editor 03/05/2016 at 10:08 am
This is something you will have to pursue via the small claims courts - make an application quickly before their house is sold.

Hi, I am in desperate need of advice please! I have neighbours from hell who put several steel beams right through the party wall of our properties and cased other damage as well. They did not serve any form of notice and it was down to me to call in a surveyor to find out the extant of the damage. A party wall agreement was drawn up and I wasgiven the run around by the neighbours. They have not rectified any damage on our side even though they were supposed to have done and now they have put their house up for sale! They are running away! What can I do?

What can be done about neighbours from another street where our rear gardens meet they constantly put their rubbish over the dividing fence into our garden, rubbish includes mattress, general rubbish, old chairs and garden rubbish. What course of action can be taken, speaking to them isn't advisable as very anti social people ?
HomeOwners2012 18/03/2016 at 1:50 pm
We live in an end terrace of 8 where all the properties except our adjoining neighbours' are bought.

This Council tenant couple have maybe 8-10 motorbike chassis' strewn throughout their rear garden, apparently stored. There are also pallets, barrels, timber and bric-a-brac all over the rear, their house inside is a similar mess, unkempt and in a comparatively poor state of décor.

One of them is at home all the time, and does nothing at all, so time is not an issue. They're just like this psychologically; TV watchers; council housing system, which we, in the end, as tax payers, are partially funding.

We have our house on the market and the estate agents have said it will affect a purchase, but there's little the neighbours would do. To them, none of it is scrap, and they have no storage options. There doesn't seem to be any real suitable answer, beyond us buying them a shed, which might have to happen I think, offset against the thousands in question

I live in a very peaceful neighborhood built on a nature preserve. Everyone is very respectful, for the most part, of one another's privacy and lifestyle. However, my next door neighbor moved unexpectedly six months ago and rented his house to a family with four children--three of them teens, one a very loud grade schooler. We know when they are awake and when they go to bed, when they take piano lessons, practice the drums and guitar, watch tv and every time they close a door. Why? They are EXTREMELY LOUD about everything. I can lay in bed, windows closed, and hear their tv. The drum playing is so loud I can record it in my house and pick it up clearly. Every time a door closes, it is a loud slam that shakes our house. I finally complained to the home owner's association and now they seem to go out of their way to make even more noise. They have the nerve to act like I am doing something wrong. Any tips on dealing with them are appreciated. It's taking a toll on my nerves, and yes, I own my home.

I have been having trouble with my neighbour. It's be going on for about 3 years.I can't go outside without him coming out and having a go. I tried 7 months ago we should sort this out. He says he hates me. Not sure why. But I am single and 50 live life to the full. Then he stars. Every 2 months kicking off at me. I'm now staying away from my home to avoid it. This can't be right

My neighbor stamps over me and my kids from 2am every day till 6am.he has his dog ran up and down too.I have high blood pressure and it is causing me to be sick.I have asked him nicely to keep the noise down but it became worse.I feel like I would be in jail soon .what to do.
ProblemNeighbours Editor 14/12/2015 at 10:36 am
Attaching anything to someone else's property without their permission amounts to criminal damage - and as such you are entitled to ask the neighbour to remove the items. If she refuses, you may need to take further action via the courts/legal system. We imagine however, that the threat of legal action for criminal damage would be sufficient, without actually have to proceed with it.

My neighbour has just hung Christmas lights off my guttering,we are a detached bungalow, she also has other things against my bedroom wall which bang when used or if its windy.
Both my husband and myself are disabled and we tend to nap in the day but with this noise it is really getting to us.
She has no regard that it is our wall and guttering.
What are we to do?

I owne my flat, ground floor. A young girl with a child (single mother) live above! She seems to think... O iv got a free paid flat (no rent) tax payers like me paying.. And then she has all her single girl mates around with all the kids running around like its a play school. Told her.. She didn't take it very well asking "please can you keep the kids from running around" (9pm- 11pm). Just a nasty girl with problems.. I felt so angry and I also don't know what to do. I have asked her landlord, but they don't care. As long as they getting money. I feel so angry I just wanna burn my flat down! I feel for anyone that has to put up with this crap.
All the best....
POTTI 03/10/2015 at 12:01 pm
I hate my neighbor, I am not an angry and vengeful, well before I was with them, now their most hated me, because what they did to me, one day I was invited alone to their home for lunch, when I was in their home, they lash out and doubted myself, how I look, I eat, and so forth, that night I went home and tried to kill them because they are angry, this is a true story that happened in the know 2013 , but I was stopped by a member of my family, I did not tell my family because they thought I was possessed by a ghost, then I say crazy because to kill, I lost a friend and sidekick, I was too stressed and angry in it, I fought with my parents, my home run, I got involved with drugs, I'm friends with the addicts, now, I'm good with my parents, because I was involved in a motorcycle accident on 09.17.2015, I was seriously injured, is still under treatment now. I do not know what will happen next, I do not know where I want to discharge my feelings. I feel a little relieved after writing this .. sorry for my bad english..

My boyfriends neighbours are terrible.
His grandad died 3 years ago, and whilst he was dying in the street they just stood there , they didn't even call an ambulance.
One neighbour built a fence down their shared drive ! Which technically goes into my boyfriends families land.
They want to move but they can't. Any suggestions to help them? We are doing our A Levels but he's too stressed to concentrate on them.

Hi, i live in a housing association and I live on the first floor with a noisy neighbour below and a noisy neighbour above so I know how people feel. The neighbour above is very aggressive and he is the fourth person to live above. He slams doors and shouts, he has his friends over from 8pm and 6.30am the following morning. The housing association don't do anything and even though I have been here for 9 years, I am glad that I hoping to move out of this place. My nerves are messed up and after 8 years I listen to music to sleep. I did sleep normally but everyone is noisy in the early hours of the morning. Some people don't care of the noise they make and I have been complaining about the neighbour for 2 years and he says He is the VICTIM!!!! Nobody does anything even the police have no powers. I am fed up and I know that private lettings is expensive but I will not stop here anymore. I don't like the neighbours its like 'care in the community' - some are alcoholics ,druggies. The housing don't care as long as the rent is being paid. They say that they will move out, I rather move out or I need to do something very drastic.

Response to H... I had a similar problem for years even overheard when I was in the bathroom one day the following conversation... strangers voice "do who lives here then?" Neighbour's response "oh she lives on her own, is out a lot as she works nights!" To thus day I'll not know who that information was divulged to! I had every single workman quizzed about what they were doing and how much I was being charged... Becoming so friendly with some of them that they were being invited into my home to be shown what work they were doing there! Not only that as usualky tume is charged on an hourly rate tgeyd ve kept ifc the job talking for ages. By the time I discovered this little nugget I has already left. How on earth does anyone challenge this behaviour. The sheer nosiness drove me out
ProblemNeighbours Editor 14/04/2015 at 10:54 am
@H. There's nothing illegal in this, in fact the workmen you employ may appreciate the new business.
H 11/04/2015 at 12:16 pm
Is it OK for my neighbour to ask every work man that comes to my home to work on my house to always approach them to carry out work for them too? They ask over the garden fence back or front. Whether i am in or not. The same does not apply. They normally do their work when i am not.

this has been going on for years.

I have been living in my flat for over 15 years and the flat below me had 4 sets of different neighbours during this time. This year the flat was sold again, but this time the new owner did not move in, renting it instead to a young couple. They do not make too much noise, apart from banging the doors all the time. But they do not care about the house at all! The front garden is being neglected, they do not use the litter bins properly, when we enter the house, there is a fowl smell of cat pee and we can smell their cooking from our flat - it had never happened before! Three times now they did something wrong while cooking and I had smoke coming through the floor and the main hall was also filled with smoke. The first time I took it as an accident that can happen to any one, the second time I knocked on their door and got treated with disrespect. I lost it and shouted. Yesterday it happened again! I am still coughing it was so bad - after 9PM! My husband does not want to confront them and I don't know what to do. I fear they will set fire to the house one day or I will get sick because of the smoke. Can you help?

Advice anyone please. For 2 years we have had to listen to Diy machines get turned on and off and not being able to park on our drive because damage occurring to our vehicles. We have involved the police but because the person has a mild learning disability/ mental health problem and claiming they are being victimised they are reluctant to act. To date we have had to pay out nearly £2,000 for repairs to our car following damage done by this person. Every time someone complains about them in the street we are subject to retaliation attacks and more recently the person has started harassing my young child. Our child can not go out the front,or back of our house to play and we have had to stop her looking out the window in case the person uses the opportunity to use negative non verbal communication with her. We have cc tv that has captured the damage but the police say that the person needs help not a conviction but when I speak to services they say the person is criminally responsible for their behaviour. the person says this is harassment as he feels watched and this amounts to disability harrassment. I feel we are positively discriminated against. I have no problem with anyone with disabilities, my problem is with the intimidation and damage to us and our property. Any advice would be greatly received.
peacenquiet 06/08/2014 at 4:46 pm
Why aren't there any answers to all of these problems? It is reassuring but at the same time, very frustrating as so many of us are stuck in this situation.
I live next door to a family with too many children, some relations of theirs, some foster children. They have an enormous family of their own and raise the grandchildren, some of them living there too.
This summer has been the worse. I have endured it for nine years. The council wont act because 'they don't have powers to deal with noisy children-this doesn't constitute a statuary complaint'.
They have advised me to contact Social Services, as it involves children.
Im frightened about the can of worms this will open up - they are completely unapproachable people.
Any ideas would be very welcome!

My next door neighbour runs a child minding business from her house and has at present seven children attend the noise at times is awful to the point that the over load on my hearing aids cut out . But what worries me is that she has told my daughter that she intends to take on more children over the school holidays and says she is allowed to do so as she will be using her son and husband as extra staff during this period . So going by what little control she has over the children she cares for now the thought of another six children causing mayhem the six week school holidays plus the seven she already looks after strikes terror in to me and my wife as we are both retired and love to spend a lot of time in the garden which is ruined during the week as it is and I just don,t think we will cope with the noise . could some one please tell me what are my rights and what course I should take .
ProblemNeighbours Editor 04/07/2014 at 12:35 pm
@Mags. You risk just going ahead and clearing the bushes and erecting a new fence and hope that he is grateful. Alternatively if the trees/fence are damaging any of your property you can get the damage fixed and sue him for the costs.

My neighbours garden is in a terrible state. His bushes and trees are so overgrown they are pushing his fence into my garden, there are quite a few nails and rusty screws sticking out. I'm worried my grandson falls on them. Iv tried putting a note in his door but he ignored it. Iv offered to pay to clear bushes and get a new fence. He is so ignorant I don't know what to do next

When will social housing in London realise the true cost of failing to

(a) invest rent earned into improving the sound conditions of their current properties before developing new ones? Even previously good neighbours can find themselves in a war-zone situation as a direct result

(b) house people who do not work with those that do - the people who don't go to work are up all night because they don't have to get up for anything, never go out of the flat because they have no money, and are generally on a totally different time schedule and priorities to people who have a full time job and desperately need quiet in the early hours of the morning? It does not work!!!!

When will the Government realise

(c) the knock on effect on the economy in missed days at work, due to noise stress and lack of sleep - missed days at work, lateness at work resulting in unemployment, illness caused by the constant stress and misery. It affects EVERYONE not just people on minimum wage.

If only Housing Associations in London realised the true cost of failing to properly soundproof their properties.

Does living 6 doors away from a neighbour someone complained to the coucil about mean that person has to declare it?

My immediate neighbour told me that everyone in our road was writing into the council to complain about this neighbour living 4 days away from me, but I refused as did not agree with this method as nobody had spoken to these neighbours about it first and I found them friendly

Later I discovered that the 3 neighbours nearest had been very devious and had NOT written in, after all and had never intended to, leaving it to a neighbour who lives 6 doors away and did not affect him, to do their dirty work for them

Also this same neighbour had trouble with his in which his 2 sons attacked him and he ended up in hospital, but no further trouble for years as sons have now moved out but still visit

I get on with both of them, but does that mean he has to declare it

They will remain here until they die, so are their heirs responsible for declaring these things?
