When neighbour disputes turn violent

Most disagreements between neighbours stay within the bounds of heated words or ongoing frustration. Even when things get tense, people usually find a way to move forward or reach some form of compromise once tempers cool.

But in rare cases, a dispute can escalate beyond arguments. A neighbour may lose control and become physically violent. This might happen during a confrontation that spirals out of hand, or in extreme situations, an attack can come without any obvious trigger.

If you have experienced violence from a neighbour, this is a serious matter. You may have legal protections, and there are steps that could help in keeping you safe and addressing the incident.

What to do during an attack

If a neighbour becomes physically violent towards you, your safety comes first. Try to remove yourself from the situation if you can do so without putting yourself at greater risk.

Making noise can help. Shouting or calling out may alert other neighbours who could assist or act as witnesses. If you are inside your home, try to move to a room where you can lock the door and call for help.

Current legal guidelines allow you to use reasonable force to defend yourself. Crown Prosecution Service guidance states that such force must be both necessary and proportionate to the threat you face. What counts as reasonable will depend on the circumstances. If you are unsure about your legal position after defending yourself, seek advice from a solicitor.

Call 999 if you are in immediate danger. The police treat physical assault as a criminal matter and will respond to reports of violence.

Steps to take after a violent incident

Once you are safe, there are several things you should do to protect yourself and strengthen any future case against your neighbour.

Report the assault to the police as soon as possible. You can call 999 in an emergency, use the non-emergency number 101 when there is no immediate danger, or report online through your local police force website. Even if the violence seems minor, having an official record matters. Ask for a crime reference number when you report the incident.
Seek medical attention for any injuries, however small they appear. A medical record provides evidence if you later pursue a complaint or legal action. Your GP or local A&E department can document your injuries.
Take photographs of any visible injuries and any damage to your property or clothing. Do this as soon as you can after the incident.
Write down what happened while it is fresh in your mind. Include the date, time, location, what was said, and the names of anyone who witnessed the incident.
If neighbours saw or heard the attack, ask whether they would be willing to provide a statement. Witness accounts can support your version of events.

Keep copies of all documents, photographs and correspondence in a safe place. This includes any previous records of disputes with the same neighbour, as a pattern of behaviour may be relevant.

Further action and support

Depending on the severity of the assault, the police may charge your neighbour with a criminal offence. Common charges include common assault, actual bodily harm, or grievous bodily harm. The Crown Prosecution Service decides whether to proceed with a prosecution based on the evidence.

You may also have grounds for a civil claim against your neighbour for compensation. A solicitor can advise you on whether this is a realistic option in your circumstances.

If you feel unsafe in your home following the attack, there are measures that can help. You can apply to the court for an injunction to prevent your neighbour from approaching or contacting you. In cases involving harassment or repeated threats, an injunction can provide ongoing protection. Non-molestation orders are another option, though these are typically used in domestic violence cases involving family members or partners rather than neighbour disputes.

Your local council may be able to assist, particularly if you live in social housing or if the neighbour does. Many councils have antisocial behaviour teams, though their role focuses on antisocial behaviour rather than criminal acts, which remain a matter for police. Housing associations also have policies for dealing with tenants who commit violent acts.

Where you feel intimidated about reporting in person, you can make reports online or ask someone to report on your behalf. In some ongoing disputes where it is safe and appropriate, mediation services can help reach a resolution without further legal action.

@??? That sounds terrifying and you need to act fast. Ring 999 if he's there or 101 to report both break-ins, and ask for a crime reference number for each. With that, contact your council's housing options team and tell them you're fleeing violence, as they have a duty to look at emergency accommodation. Also speak to Victim Support on 0808 16 89 111 and consider applying for a restraining order or non-molestation order through a solicitor.

Reason why there's so many victims out there is because the law is insane and seems to protect the culprits NOT the victims! I have lost count how many times I have had to move because of violent chav neighbors who HARRASSED me out of every home I have had and yet those culprits still have a home! There should be a law that if the culprits bully harrass violently out of the victims home they should automatically be evicted! Please help I was recently assaulted by my neighbour. I have 4 children and we are terrified to return home. He has given us death threats and told people where we live and work. Police are aware but have let him out on bail. We have no home to go to and are currently sofa surfing

. My elderly neighbor decides to house his homeless nephew, nephews girlfriend, and the nephew mom aswell. They come from the ghetto. Loud, disrespectful,. No respect they were evicted 2 other places now this is there last resort by living with elderly. Mom tried to bargen and offered rides out of kindness, she loaned stuff to them etc just to keep peace. Mother gave the nephews girfriend a item for easter and asked if she could return it back to her. Girl agreed. 2 days later item still missing, mom goes to get her item back, the boyfriend comes out hostile shouting slurs and all kinds of cussing. Mom let it go but had gave them parting words calling them "homeless" . Hell broke loose, they keep taunting and harassing bodily harm to us. They have anger issues they beat on the old man upstairs aswell. Police dont care , office management doesnt care , its time to set our sights elsewhere. They truely want to fight us over nothing at all.. and to top it off the item my mom wanted back in easter was in the girl hand earlier. They all want a reaction out of us and i feel miserable here, im autistic and have severe social anxiety and my once peaceful place isnt so peaceful anymore because theyre big bullies

Hi my neibour has threatened to kill my family and said these singhs think they own everything he also said he was going to kill us and cost us money. He has said many many times he will rip my husbands beard off saying this to a sikh man is very disrespectful as we Sikhs have to wear the 5 ks. This is so racist. My neighbour has been assaulting me, scaring me, obstructing my property, ruining everything outside my home, dog feces everywhere, sends the police to my house accusing me of things I never have done, the police have been at my home 8 times, once one police said that he didn't hear anything, questioned her mental state, things which she does, she has all her family there, sometimes 11/12 people, 6 dogs, bangs on walls, puts tapes of banging on walls, music, yelling, verbally harasses me, tries to assault me physically, attempts to throw rocks at me, disturbs anyone who visits, including the repair people, plumber, electrician etc. She is a business-woman, has a reputable restaurant, I'm a senior 74 years of age.. She kicked on my door more than once, the list is endless, my area is a pleasant townhome complex in Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada.. The police say that they cannot get involved... My neighbour also got the other neighbour to do the same thing, the other neighbour hosed me down when she was watering her garden, police said she told them it was an accident, people are afraid and do not want to get involved, my house is very nice, very comfortable, I love the area, I do not understand why the police does not do anything.. I have been living here for over 20 years, and this has been going on since 2010...and I don't know what she and the other neighbour want from me.. I am smack in the middle of these two vicious women...

I'm a 67year old female and was attacked by a neighbor, I have limited physical movement. The neighbor is a 40-50year old man. He attacked me in my apt private hallway, during this whole process I've been treated like the aggressor, I'm being charged with attacking him, none of this makes sense, I was so confused and upset after being attacked I couldn't speak with the police, however he was able to give a statement to the police while I was rushed to the nearest hospital, when is it okay to attach someone and not be arrested.please help! I'm in a lot of pain, can't eat or drink and none of the services I received at the hospital made sense. They took no pictures bottom line I was at the hospital for 7 hours and no one even gave me a drink of water all day. nothing to eat or drink, no nothing! I was treated like a criminal. I live in a ground floor flat and I have a lot of years I own my own property full stop and I've got a young couple couple living upstairs question mark and when they moved in I really got got on well with them. The worst thing about it when I leave my property I don't think about where I live or he was in my street. What about 3 weeks ago this lad upstairs from me called Robby Staton. You said you said something about me and it's come back to me you've grasp me up. I've got CCTV up but I've been noticing a lot of strange things lately people coming in the street checking CCTV cameras across the road from me which I've got on camera lhp the housing officers know and the police I know everything going on so the police that's recommended me that has CCTV cameras which I had done. Tonight the 3rd of the 6th 20 22 taxi food ovens please the half of the 11 out of it it will be round the street to check the CCTV out again. What's the best thing about this camera backed up the head office and it's on the cloud and email system full stop over here yesterday they said we all the cameras up isn't really what we're going to do to me and my property? This is the trouble when you live in the ground floor flat and if anything I said you automatically get the blame I've lived here for 15 years now and I have quite a few neighbours somebody is really good but the younger generation are very vindictive and nasty. I am a victim of punishment for no reason. Police
do nothing when a crime is reported.
I am being surveillance 24/7.
With no criminal record and no health issues to be subjected to pain, suffering and being used without my consent, when it comes to the Nuremberg Code, forced to inhale toxic substances which are not A Class drugs, being pumped into my mums flat.
As a carer it's very danagerous whilst looking after mum.
My phone calls are sometimes cut and I have to radial, stalked and victimised.
There has been false misleading statements made up against me, plus I was kidnapped, its shocking.
I made a complaint and received reprisal in another form, which resulted to assaults.
We need to protect our human rights. And to clear my name if their illegal databaseçk

It's called discrimination cause anyone else is assualted or threatened the person gets arrested for it but cause hes got hate issues &mental health hes allowed to get away with it & nothing is said to him, police didnt even visit him he is not I'll but I am with multiple illnesses including copd&resp. & many other health issues, I am a very high risk cev under medical grounds who should be safeguarded but it dosnt look like I am I feel discriminated & unsafe living here incase he attacks me again as hes always threatening to kill me but it seems as if hes allowed to do this cause he has mental health problems, but I will not ask for nomore help & if he attacks me I am going to defend myself. All I want is to live my life I have left without all this trouble it's making my health worsen I dont want this neighbour in my life I dont know what hes like or does but I dont care as long as he stays out of my life & away from me.

My manor is my brother, he started this 5 years ago the rumors about me being lesbian, a prostitute, I sleep with anyone and will sell my self for what ever kind of dope. He has made falus police calls in two different county's called in on alot of people for doing drugs and used my name . He bitten her ear almost off and was beating her now he quit but she still suffers with the mental abouse. She had all the proof on her cell phone to prove he is jay . I have lived in my neighborhood for 52 years, on and off, as it is the house I grew up in. All of my life I have had cats, as they have been a big part of my life always. In both my private and professionalal life, as I went to school and got my license in the veterinary field becoming a registered veterinary technician, in which I spent twenty years working in the field in high stress areas until shortly after my daughter was born, where I managed to stay home with her. At that time we had about five cats. Well through the years we stayed at about three to five cats until the time my my mother fell ill and my daughter and I moved back into the family home. Just prior to moving home, I was given a female kitten from a friend for my birthday and a male kitten from my daughter. Both of them un neutered. Well with the circumstances with my mom and the reality we were back at home living on a fairly large piece of land, my daughter began to breed research cats. We were not just backyard breeders, S these cats were ell taken care of and loved greatly. In truth never reaching over twenty. And to Ny of the surrounding neighbors, you would never of known there were twenty as the property was big and there most times were only about five seeable at time. Except at night we
Except at night where the cats would come out from the woodwork, and I would take a good chunk of them out for a walk. Being there was no traffic in the area and it was she, they would follow until, I decided it was time to turn back around and head home.which they would then do the same. It is these cats which made up the elders of the cat colony. Today the eldest of the cats being at eight is nine years. Well as it turned out while my mother was ill the eldest cat, the father of the whole of them disappeared. Thinking he had run off like some of the others I just did my best to understand the reasoning or possibility as to what could have run him off so as not to have it occur another time. Because it was odd, S the cats all liked each other and got along well. At night or even in the daytime it was not uncommon for them to all come into the room in the garage and sleep on the bed which was in there. They at times would go into the house, however. Ost of them were outside and inside garage cats. It was sometime after, I found it to be that I had one neighbor who had been king the cats and another neighbor who had been taking the cats for his own personal self. As I discovered a few of them which he kept in his house never letting them out. Well when I discovered them, I did not know if I could do anything though in reality they had been my loved cats. My neighbor came in to my house last evening I woke up to a man snoring in my living room. We have been assulted by neighbor they have had two friends of our cars towed they have pushed me and my mom and other tenants around bullied us went to the police and management and they did nothing now it has esqulated to forcibly coming into our home and assulting my partner who has never said any thing to them they did it a second time and 911was on the phone when it happened the police come and want to know why a fifty year old didn't fight back and after they threatened us said now it's on for calling them still nothing and now they ganged up and four people attacked him and all his ribs on left side fracture orbroke black eye concussion and his body bruised every where and the police call it a fourth degree assult and never talked or even said a word to them so we are not safe and can't even get a restraining order do to no one will give us there names so now can anyone help me

My nextdoor neighbor has bullied and harassed me on many occasion.
The final time was sucker punching me out on the front stoop out of nowhere. I fell to the ground and suffered an acute concussion, broken collar bone, and broken ribs.
I got a restraining order on her...but can I charge her to add to her record? Is there a time restriction to do this?

After 3 years of verbally abuses from my neighbor who thinks he owns my driveway( he doesn't and i have the proof, I have 30 acres)on the first of April he attacked me with a metal pipe On my own driveway, hit me in the head, and hit my mail friend who came to help me with it to. Was taken to hospital and had 5 stitches behind my ear the police took him away and had him home 3 hours later and i have had no luck getting information about the incident since and his still out and about saying thing's like, see i can do whatever i like and get away with it, what do i do im so scared to even go down to check the mail and if i go to town I have been going through the property behind mine so I don't have to go past his place I got this place to get away from a 20 year abusive marriage please can some one help I have trubbel doing this sort of thing now with my head I get headaches and can't concentrate to well I don't know what to do

It is clear that calling the police is a useless endeavor. I, personally, am trying to find a way to sue them
But so far unsuccessful. No lawyer will touch it and they say it is a civil matter. I am on my own, reading legal texts that I dont understand really, but trying to get through anyway. I am so alone and very frightened.

I have been harrassed for two years by two individual neighbours one attacked me abusively and the other set fires outside my door and stalked me and abusive comments to my family I think stand up for no bullying no more I have warned them with a letter that I will report to police but no change. Investigation been done on arson attacks.

I live in a duplex house. My neighbors party all night; every night; and they have had the police called on them mostly by me; but other neighbors too.
It’s has made the neighbors become real bad people by using some device: I think electronic; to assault me. It makes my ears ring, bad headaches, and dizziness. I can’t explain, but the feeling in my head feels very bad; like something physical is occurring. I do not have anybody to help me, and the neighbors are clever to call the police and state I am doing what they are doing.

I am a us army vet, and my neighbors are gov check drawing people who don’t work.

I have the only go home for necessities, then leave; because they have networked with another to monitor my coming and going.

Please help me

Prob'ly two years my neighbor has been banging the dents out of the front of his car fenders over and over again spray painting over and over again Sanding over and over again and fighting too loud music during the day/night the banging all the noise of the car he was sanding in his parking spot and my house is the carport and it makes so much noise I finally parked my car in front of his car that doesn't and eliminated his opportunity to harassment noise he has since moved my car into the street sliced my Tire shattered my windshield in my other car what do I do

Myself and son wife were assaulted by neighbor because his dogs got in my garden. Dogs attack me and wife. Neighbor kick garden gate in on my property went straight to me and started attacking me, son intverned, neighbor hit him, then went to hit wife.i suffered injuries to my mouth, face, legs and serious issues to chest from the attack. Went A&E. Police rang...came out ten mins later, did nothing and went away. All was on CCTV, police now told me no charges to neighbor......we live in fear of the next attack...

Was assaulted by drunk old man neighbour yesterday hitting me a backhanded armswipe across my shoulder and face - which did not hurt but is completely unacceptable. I called police .
The WPC was supportive and helpful and said it was assault and he would be arrested if I chose to pursue it further. The old man is in poor health . I'm thinking about it.
This is relatively minor compared to other comments / experiences on this site.
However another previous neighbour attempted to kill me and there was a witness police attended didn't look at the evidence or question the witness they turn out to have been responding not to my emergancy call but exclusively to the killers cover up call they believed a load of garbage the killer told them and did nothing.
I fled for my life.

Our street neighbours who's selling drugs.is been fighting with my family.and this has been an ongoing thing.the drug seller and his wife with his daughter beat up my aunt who's a chronic patient.they best up her son,daughter and my lil sister. The drug seller and his wife went opening a case against my fam. Wich my family also dd. The drug seller than hired a hit man.to destroy my family.wich he dd with my child's father.they got someone to kill him......so this cases that was open was withdrawn as they matter was resolved by the police..then today the police came again after the matter was resolved. They came to lock up my aunts daughter who was fighting with drug seller's daughter...she said that this case was made because she saw the video of the fight and she feels embarrassed after she also fought with my cousin..so she reopened the case. ...so the police is not helping us cause they working with the drug seller...pls help...this guy is threatening US.he said he will get the gun man to kill us all....pls help

Police said it a neighbourly dispute it wasn’t neighbours friend pushed him trying to get into the car. The neighbours friend could have let my husband get in first it was intentional after with his mental health he messed the bed himself fr over a month I got a doctors letter it’s rediculous he has schizophrenia diabetes anxiety depression 1 leg

My neighbour has been a nightmare since she moved in at the beginning of the year. She is a single mum with 3 children and it’s a private let which is paid for by benefits, we own our house. She thinks it’s acceptable to blare music all day, loud enough that I can hear every word of the song, and then parties all night long when both me and my partner work full time. We approached her many times to ask her to be more considerate but got either ignored or abuse. We decided to start to contact the council every time she was being loud. They came out a few times, to tell her to turn it down, one of which we heard her threatening to come to the door and assault me. The other night we woke up to a brick being put through our window. She seems to think she’s untouchable because she’s a single mum. We are completely at a loss of what to do, and the police can’t prove it. I feel unsafe in my home and I am struggling to sleep. My partner works away a lot and I don’t feel like this is my home anymore.

After 3 weeks of endless music pounding through the ceiling i approached my neighbor at his door to ask him if he wouldn't mind taking the bass out. he produced a kitchen knife an began to wildly wave it my face stating i shouldn't knock on his door its his flat an he can do as he please's an if i was too ever knock his door again ill not be going downstairs under my own free will... 20 mins later he is booting on my door calling me all the names under the sun threatening to stab me up i didn't respond, Just barricaded myself indoor's had to suffer music all night long. next day i find a nice note carved into my door threatening to execute me. i've contacted my letting agency an made a complaint. i'm now looking to move out ASAP i feel involving the police will only make matters worse we both gotta live in these flat's an they can't be there 24/7 to keep the peace.

My upstairs neighbour attacked twice in the space of 24 hours. He has mental health issues such as depression, psychosis and also drink and drug addictions and suicidal thoughts. He was sectioned recently but since been released and I have been trying to support and help him because I also have mental health issues but he turned violent and paranoid with me late last night when I was in his flat. He said he knows his girlfriend is in the flat and I was talking to her but she wasn't there - he was hallucinating. He locked me in the flat and refused to let me go until I admitted that I was talking to her and that was there. I tried to peacefully reassure him that only me and him were there but he lashed out by punching me twice in the chest and held a penknife towards me. Eventually he calmed down and let me go and apologised several times and I accepted his apology. He then was messaging me all night trying to arrange a 3some between me, him and his ex girlfriend. He asked me to message her and I did but sent him a screenshot of the message. However, when he came downstairs to me in the morning he then looked at my phoned and lashed out again being all paranoid accusing me of sleeping with her and having an affair with. I've never met this woman by the way. He then punched me several times in the chest, neck and face and grabbed me by the chest and hair and threw me to the ground. Luckily, a workman was there servicing the internal fire systems and intervened which saved my life because I think he would've killed me otherwise. I managed to run away because I didn't want to fight him cuz I knew he would've got the better off me and I didn't want any trouble. I ran to the local leisure centre and called the police who took a statement but because I felt sorry for him and his mental health, I decided not to press charges but later changed my mind and ran them back up but they said no charges can be pressed and they will only talk to him. I also phoned my housing association and they said I've got to go back there but I refused and said I will still pay all the bills. I was so terrified and I'm still scared to go back there because he will do it again or worse. I am going to keep searching for a mutual exchange online. What else can I do?

i have been extorted by neighbors and their family for more than 10 years and when i finally refused to comply with their terms, they had their friends attack my wife and i when we arrived at our home, i was told i was going to be killed and my wife assaulted as well as have my vehicle and home taken because they wanted my car and my yard with a fence so they could get a dog. guess what race these "people" are. so after the assault i called the police these "people" all stated i threatened and attacked them. i was arrested and am being prosecuted, i had previously reported harrasment and vandalism as well as tresspassing by these individuals one of whom is supposed to be incarcerated but allowed to freely leave the facility at will and another wanted for escape, the police did NOTHING, and when i confronted them in front of the police they threatened me and stated we can do whater we want., again the police did nothing the entire incident was captured on home security video even where the police supervisor conspired with them to allow for their assault on my family. corruption in this "free" country is absolutely disgusting.

I had marks on my arms..and even when they said well wed have to take you both to jail.. they did not arrest him.. all the people saw and he lied...and they convinced the police not to arrest him..wtf??

I was assaulted by my neighbour. I rang the police. They said they were too buisy. And to go to hospital. 8 weeks later I was having brain surgery. Off work for 3 months . The police did very little but lent a sympathetic ear ? I am moving house I can't wait to move to get my life and ideals back on track. The UK police are under resourced 729 murders last year . I was nearly one of those statistics myself. The assault was unprovoked.

My neighbours have moved in since 2016. Ever since they have complained when ive had family over and kids playing. When that was dealt with they complained about closing the front door. They say its too loud which i cant help come winter time it goes stiff. Police got involved after the lady opened my car door and abused me. Mediator resolved it and 6mnths yesterday she came banging on the door. Complained! I disnt want to hear it as my kids were scared so closed the door. She started getting abusive and banging on door window i thought she was going to break it. Called police coming out today. Im so scared to leave house. Shes renting whilst this is my own home. I cant leave. Any advice please as im scared and have little kids. My hisband works evenings to nights so is never home and we dont like confrontation.

I was assaulted by my neighbors & 2 of their friends. I suffered severe concussion, punched in the head, bitten & almost had my eye scratched out. My partner has alzheimers/vascular dementia & he saw it. Subsequently he fell down the stairs smashing his head open after suffering a stroke, caused by the stress of these bullies. They have cost us a lot of money over 17 years with untold damage to our property, especially the cars. And all because of jealousy. They have never worked & live on benefits. My partner & I have always worked & sweated for what we have. The police, housing association & local MP won't do anything but pass the buck amongst themselves. What is wrong with this picture - I just don't get why they won't do something about these degenerates. Simple solution - Just move them. If they do it somewhere else, then eviction should happen. Why would housing associations want people like these as tenants. It's beyond me. I have seriously thought of committing suicide & taking my partner with me. At least we'd both be at peace

I was punched in the back by my next door neighbor when I was returning to my apartment after throwing out the garbage in May. He used his knuckles when he punched me and I almost fell down the stairs near my apartment. I told him it was assault and that I was going to call the police, but I never called the police because I was scared. I am an older woman living alone and most people who live here are Hispanic, including management. The situation is not getting better, but I am afraid what will happen to me if I say anything. The people who live next door are always having the manager over for drinks, etc. My only income is Social Security and I can't afford to move. Right now the man that punched me is standing outside my apartment on his phone.

So basically. Neighbors can bully, threaten, and most reciently i heard a neighbor break down a door and assault the man in his own home. My son visited and the same maleneighbore who did the asdult rubbed his butt on my sons truck, drew him out to taunt him more. Camaras are now installed. I am hearing police treat this like they treat battered wemon. Go home and dont provoke him anymore. Move away from all who know because the abuser has more power. Hiya hoping for some advice. We have a neighbour who suffers from mental health issues. Every weekend she gets absolutely out of her mind with drink, falling about the communal areas, shouting screaming throwing things through her window aggressive to all the neighbours where the police after arrest her. Last night she smashed up a greenhouse throwing things the plants where dragged out. I told the owner then I rang the police and ambulance because of the amount of blood on the floor and what I could see on her. But I never approached her at that time. But later she was walking down the road and all the neighbours came out to see the damage. Which was awful. She then appeared again laughing and shouting and decided to get in my face as I told her to get inside her home.Wish I hadn't she lunged at me tore my dress ripped my necklace off and then slugged me. My neighbours pulled her off and I was shaking I sat down mean while the police landed. She as been arrested and iv given my statement as I want her prosicuted. But I feel bad because she is ill. This is not the first time we have had problems it's every week with her. On Monday am getting in touch with our Houseing officer anti social behaviour team. What else can be done.

I have been attacked by neigbours several times had repeated threats repeated robberies including agravated burglary, had my children attacked police have done next to nothing, 3rd and 4th february got attacked 4 times in 24 hour period by the same two men, both of whom abviously have class a drug problems and are basicaly neigbours, the problem is I think incidents like these are becoming widespread through out the uk, I was left with a broken nose, fractured cheek bone teeth knocked out and 15 to 20 stitches in my mouth (upper lip) obviously these appear to be hardcore career criminals, to be so persistant in their activities, since they moved into this block of flats many people have left, surely the authorities realise this, so the system is flawed people should be safe in their own homes, it should be the criminals who get moved on, not the other way around, no ownder people are becoming homeless.

My husband was attacked by a neighbor in the next garden. All he did was set up the lawn mower without turning it on. The neighbor rushed over grabbed my husband and started punching him. We were friends with this neighbor and had never had any disagreement with him whatsoever so we were quite shocked by the unexpected assault. We live in Germany where probably not much will happen to the perpetrator.

Im disabled and suffering with my health. My son whom only 17 came to visit me my neighbour is an alcoholic and when she was drunk she decided to attack me and my son she was found guilty in court I have suffered for many years with her racist remarks and attacks this was the only time I took it to court and she was actually found guilty my housing association done nothing to help me but this time round and victim support with very helpful. But now my housing association have decided to move me I now have to up and leave I moved to Somewhere I don't know and leave that only support network I have which is my family who don't live far it's so unfair I don't see why my neighbour Can't Be Moved I also have to fork out for three weeks rent on the new property plus moving expenses which I really can't afford I'm also moving to a place where the nearest shop is a 35 minute walk and I don't drive it may be different if I wasn't disabled and my health wasn't so bad at the minute. I really need some advice as I believe it's so unfair can I get any help with moving expenses or even with paying the free week's rent before I move into this new place it's really got me depressed and my mental health is suffering. I really don't see why I feel like I'm being punished for what my neighbour has done to me and my son my son doesn't come and see me no more and has moved to Northern Ireland. He doesn't want to be attacked or being involved in any disputes with my neighbour my friends no longer come to see me as she always shouts abuse at them. This woman has made my life hell to the point I feel so isolated and I don't even leave my property anymore.

I was attacked by my neighbour after me going to his door 4 times regarding noise when we moved in this was the most peaceful street. He has moved in he is polish and does nothing but shout and bang all day long and night. I went to his door again and he went absolutely mental and attacked me I have never seen anyone act this way an absolute lunatic to be honest. He was arrested and jailed for the night and is due in court unfortunately nothing has changed noise wise and we feel threatened and scared. The council are no help whatsoever don't seem interested at all and quite frankly the police were not much better. Yet at my partners work someone tried to steal cheese and they appeared 5 minutes later. I was attacked and it took them 6 hours. The system for dealing with this behaviour of noise etc needs to really be handled differently with the council threatening eviction straight away not years down the line when it's taken your sanity and quality of life. People end up taking things into hand and often end up in trouble as a result. The whole thing stinks and yet the trouble makers continue to get away with it they have no fear or remorse. Sad we all have to suffer !

I require some advice please my neighbors are very young 18-19 and they are part of a teenage gang, they get their friends to circle a car outside leaning on it when I put rubbish in the bins they swear obscenities at me. I am on computer now they are in apartment below me thumping ceiling as they know I am in, floorboards creak and I try to tiptoe round the place because, I am afraid of them.

I stayed out of the apartment today as I couldnt handle another day of their attacks. they use sticks to bang on wall.

since council close previous noise report for banging they wont re open it, now they are worse confrontational, they sub let too. their teenage gang friend sleep on sofa bed and thump the wall and use brooms to clang on ceiling and yell abuse.

council refuse to do anything saying just teenagers they deserve an ASBO.

I am quiet I wear headphones, slippers indoors, I have carpet underlay and rugs to make sure noise isnt bad, council have seen I have two rugs one on top the other in living room, across large walking areas and on hard floors kitchen same I have rugs.

normal household tasks I cant do, I cant concentrate on my college studies as they thump the wall while I am sitting here and all I hear is boom thump boom clang, and laughing.

even when they throw rubbish in the dustbin the bin rattles so loud I can hear it within the apartment.

they have intent to threaten with violence and I have rung the police last night as they had a gang outside against car yelling abuse for no reason.

what do I do, council refuse to help and the tenants are saying I am anti social!

I am being accused Iive alone so. they side with them, yet they are bullies as I am older they call me this old B ugh ugly B ugh she has no style Ugh B. its horrible.

I dress clean tidy and I dont look old for my age im young im just not a teenager of 18-19.

their anger issues continue to shake the apartment and my stomache is in knots.
I get little or no sleep as they up all night drinking and have taken over the apartment its theirs and they think they can do as they wish.

There's not much you can do about the cat's defectating but your neighbour's behaviour does sound unreasonable. At this stage, the police will not be able to much as it's your word against the neighbour. If this happens again, make sure you have some evidence etc and try the police again. You could also try a private legal action for an IPNA (Injunction to Prevent Nuisance and Annoyance
)

My neighbour was letting her cats use my garden, which I was using as therapy because a lot was happening in my life, as their toilet. This encourage a feral cat to hang around. I asked her lots of times to please do something. I even requested a mediation which she didn't accept. Months go by. I'm still finding her cats crap in my garden. I had to dig up my front yard and start again. She was very aware that it was a problem. I was not aggressive once. I was very upset. I put a fence up. They damaged it. I redid one part of my front garden. Then another part of my front garden. She got another cat.
I started collecting the pooh and put it in a box near her driveway because her kids were meant to pick it up from my garden everyday. The third box, I approached her and asked why she didn't stick to her part of the deal. She wanted the box of pooh. I gave it to her. She threw it at me, then emptied the rest on me. I wanted to smash her but I didn't. I had a shower and reported it to the police. Nothing happened. I'm still humiliated. This happened in January 2nd, 2016. I heard nothing back from the police so I sent an email last week. He said he spoke up her. That's it. Is it ok to throw your cats pooh on your neighbour that she collected from her garden after asking so many times to please do something??

all the harrasser has to do is claim you are the one harrassing them and deny everything then the police do nothing.
You would think it is common sense for police to know nobody is going to admit to anything since when is there a honest scumbag?
and to the person who said about ethnic minorities WRONG, i am an ethnic minority and i was racially abused by a white female for 9 months and police stood in my face and said i was playing the race card and they didnt understand how a banana she left outside my door was racist.
I am now being harrassed by a fat 50yr old junkie and again nothing.

as i said all the harrasser has to do is claim you are the problem even if you are the one who phoned police in the first place.

Police wont help until you are dead.

The police are the ones who should be helping you with this situation. If you are in a council property they may consider moving you but are more likely to suggest the problem with this man is dealt with by the police.

Hi there

Today I experienced a unprovoked attack on myself from my neighbour! First he came to my door saying I drove to fast into the street today started to shout at me and when I told him to calm down he tried to punch me! I moved back and he missed and I shouted for him to get off my property and told him I was calling the police! I was very emotional but procedded to get ready for work. I left the house 20 minutes later and the man was in his car at the bottom of the street and when I attempted to leave he blocked me in. I got out my car to see what he was doing and he revved his engine and drove at me. It was short distance but enough to knock me down and knock me out for a couple minutes. When I awoke he was stamping on my head I instantly protected myself and curled up into a ball and he was kicking me over and over. There was lots of witnesses and a lady dragged him off me.

The police was called by a lot of people and lots of people saw the whole thing. He had his child in his hand when he attempted to punch me and had his child in the car when he ran me over and beat me. My worry now is my safety living on my own so close to this maniac. The police arrested him but he out on bail and have said because my injuries are not severe his punishment may not be, which is ridiculous he could have killed me if I didn't wake up and roll into a ball to protect my head he was stamping on it! Iv been to hospital but not much they can do for cracked rib, twisted ankle and bad headache so I have pain killers and now staying with a friend! If this guy can do this to me with his child witness I'm scared what he could do to mine! I currently rent a house I work but receive some housing benefit! I can't afford to just get up and move with deposits and admin fees! Will the local council help me in anyway I don't feel safe in my home and have been victim of an awful attack and I just don't know what to do

It's all very well having legislation to protect people from nightmare neighbours, but it's almost impossible to gather evidence against them without being accused of interfering with their human rights! The Police say they can do nothing without evidence but when you try to gather this, you tread a fine-line in terms of CCTV etc....and often it's YOU who ends up being criticised! Frankly, if you've got to the point where you can no longer communicate with the neighbour - you might as well just move - or find ways of coping with it. There are strategies for this. Using different parts of the house/garden; soundproofing etc....or whatever suits the situation. You know your own circumstances and will have some idea. Sometimes it's better to do this than move - which can be expensive and stressful. Apart from extreme situations of group violence etc...the authorities are reluctant to act, in spite of so-called better legislation. You've got additional problems if the NFH is part of the 'travelling community' or from an ethnic minority, because they often use that against you and try to make you look bigoted. My advice, if you've tried everything and failed: develop personal coping strategies to suit you situation and then get on with your life.

My 57 year old mother was attacked by our 27 year old female neighbor Monday night. My mothers boyfriend was at the neighbors drinking with the girls husband. My mother texted for him to come home it was getting late. The girl gets my mothers , boyfriends phone an starts texting " shut up you stupid "B" and all kind of stuff. My mother knew it wasn't him texting that it was her. My mother texted " Jennifer your a nasty "B". Well like 20 minutes later my mothers back door is being slung open while she's doing her dishes and the girl is standing in my mothers kitchen. She starts screaming at her , pushing her , eventually has my mother on the ground choking her. My mom gets her out the back door and starts screaming (it's dark outside mind u)
Luckily I live next door an my 11 year old daughter happens to walk out to our car for something and hears my mom , my daughter runs inside and says " mom , Jennifer is trying to push grandma down the stairs ". I'm like " what?" I run over (like 100 feet away ) and bull doze the girl to the ground an put her in a choke hold". I finally let go , cause my husband came over , he gets the girl out of the yard. " cops come (my mom called) they acted like it was no big deal , just because they seen no crazy marks on my mom. Takes them 30 minutes to lock this girl up. I let them ask my daughter what happened so they'd believe us , because the girl was denying the whole thing. They have assault and battery in the 3rd on her. My question is " what will happen in court ?" I know the girl has never been to jail , she also works for our local elementary school mind you, this girl works with kids.
Anyone know what will happen or could happen. My mother wants her door fixed that the girl bent all up, before this , this girl has never been in my moms home or yard my mother didn't even know the girl and she just came up in her home and attacked her ???? This is in South Carolina where this happened

I have some noisy, messy, inconsiderate pikey neighbours who, among other things, smashed down our bird tables. They denied it and threatened to 'knock me out'. I've made a police complaint and complained to the housing officer at the council. Then I am moving out of here

I was assaulted today by a few neighbours ove a malicious facebook rumour and I called the police they came and took a few notes then left and told me they'd come back however after a few hours they never showed so I rang the station and they more or less told me that they believed the rumors and that I was on my own and more or less had to stay in the house and not go anywhere so I've been forced to move to Was to get away from the violence as the police here in Tasmania refuse to help me at all.

im so sorry to hear your stories ,im having my own run in with the local youths myself and I have a heart condition to
my view is ,in this now liberal lefty wet world we live in the powers that be are there to protect the rights of the criminals first ,they are tied by there own policies to do this
We are now going to get a 25% cut in policing in the community which will turn the police into a blue light service only
If you have commited domestic abuse ,this includes just arguing with your partner ,or have committed a crime against money or a victimless crime then the police will bang you up real quick ,other than that they have an unwritten order to not investigate any crimes ,so I will take the law into my own hands

November 2014 had big fight with my oppersit neighbour she threatened to kill my 2yearnold child :( then she sent he boyfriend n his 2 mates down with hammers n crow bars to smashe me n my partner up. Nothing happened just threats again to which her boyfriend threatened to burn my place down an make sure my child was in it burning :( they then ran up the road and smashed my partners car up ( all coz the girl was drunk couldn't handle her drink and started) the police arrested her and questioned her partner to which they both got away with it. Now the month of April 2015 early hours of the morning my neighbours kicked of again very violently an unprovoked my partner has had a hammer smashe into his head leaving a big whole there, hammer bruise marks on his knee cap all down his side an his ribs smashed in with the hammer my neighbour also brought a 12"-15" blade out and had it to his throat now if it wasnt for me stamping on my neighbour head n getting him away from my partner my partner might not of been here today :( the lady has left serious bite marks on his side. This all happened just because we put a statement in on them to the police in November. It's been 3 days since te violent attack and my partner won't go to the police an report the neighbour in fear they will attack us again he won't go to hospital partly out of stubbornness and also coz they will involve the police. I'm so scared something could be wrong with him as he sometime has trouble breathing his chest gets tight and very painful and his head is still weaping his bite mark has turned yellowey green (infected) but still won't get it seen. We have spike to police just to get a ref number to help us to get moved we went to council the did there infestegations and come back with the fact coz we still at our propery they can't help as we ain't in danger ( which I think is sickening) they have threatened to kill my 2year old child and attempted to kill my partner but they can't help as I'm in no serious danger. I'm going out of my mind with worry what there next move will be as her partner has said it's far from over. The council also said that thy will be able to help me get places into an emergancy place if it happens again and I report it but next time thy could end up killing one of us. Does anyone know what I can do to get moved as noone can seem to help us and without a garentour I can't move into a privately rented property noone I can stay with and family can't help as no space and don't live round Essex :(

I don't know how dangerous these people can be. In the US we have mentally unstable people permitted guns and nothing done really except maybe a trespass when they come onto your property with intent to do harm.

I a 70 year old man was touched on the next by a bully thug neighbor 20 years younger when he said I was disturbing his dogs. He smashed a dog silencing device and my pulse went to over 130 beats per minute, dangerous.

Police have really not believed me, I think, in how dangerous he is and in danger I am in for doing nothing to this mentally unstable person.

I wonder how many others suffer as I do and police can really do nothing except wait until he kills me.

I was attacked by a burly male neighbor yesterday. He was livid with rage, because he has a dog mill and believes my dog audio whistle was disturbing his barn of dogs. I am approaching 70 with heart condition. This was not first assault, but the first was without physical contact a number of years ago. I called police who came and did nothing at that time.

He owns guns and says he is a disabled Vet, but I know he is crazy and probably has PSD.
On the last occasion officer asked do I want him arrested. The answer is of course he trespassed, assaulted with intent to harm, mad threats including, " I'll rip you god damn lungs out."

I am the only retired person living here and other neighbors have not really been helpful. He is a time bomb waiting to kill.

The police put a no trespass on him and said this would constrain him.
I have never felt I needed home surveillance equipment or a fire arm. Now I do. Its affected my blood pressure. He also threw the electronic dog silencer and destroyed it.

I am scared to do anything for fear of this out of control criminal.
Suggestions?

it was valetines evening (around 9 pm) my husband, brother and me desided to clean the garage. we thought we might have a garage sale, the following weekend. so my brother was helping me were take things out of the garage, we could hear someone yelling and cussing..we thought it was the couple across the street they do that once or twice a week..so my brother left to see if everything was ok.. my husband was cleaning the drive was and taking his tools out of his truck,,he works days so any yard work he does is in the evening.. he could hear someone (male) cussing about his neighbors,he was saying how much he hated us and that we were all drug dealers!! we have lived in our home 27 years the neighbors on our left have lived in their home 18 os 19 years.. she is a single mother and has a son 'alfredo' he is now 20 years old. i have a son that is 27 married.. when they were younger they were close, he was such a sweet boy. anyway! the cussing was getting louder so i went to see what was going on. as i walked out of the garage, i saw a guy run toward my husband and knock him down and started punching him in the face! my brother and me tried to get him off my husband but he was acting crazy. my huband had him in a bear hug.he has never been in a fight! finnaly my brother pulled him off and i noticed he had dropped something then out of the blue he looked at me with eyes of a crazy person and hit me in eye so hard i fell.. then my husband and brother freeked!! they grabed him my husband and this guy were rolling around on the ground punching.. as soon as i got up from the ground i kicked him twice in the side but he never stopped then i saw my brother hit him with something 2 times but he kept fighting.. so i told my husband and brother to hold him until the cops got here.. so the guy started dragging my husband across the neighbors yard telling my husband he was leaving in his car!! when the cops showed up they asked him who he wasand it was alfredo!!! and he was cussing the police too and he was drunk and he was on something else!! then the police made my husband, brother and me get into seperate cars... alfredo was standing up yelling he didnt need an ambulance...his mother was not home.. the policeman that was talking to me got in the car and said 'why did you hit him in the head with a axe !! all i could do was cry. he said i will be back and i want you to tell me why you hit him..when he came back, he said ok, we know who hit him.. my brother did after he hit me,and we all are going to jail except alfredo because we were in his yard!! all the punching anjdhitting was on our property

New nieghbours moved in.
Nothing but noise and hassle.
Have been attacked by nieghbours brother.
Nieghbours kids are destroying all our property.
Family are well known to police.
Last night our car was smashed ( every window and acid poured over it.)
We own our flat but downsrairs is a private let.
Police say there is nothing they can do.
We are living in constant fear.
HELP.

Lived in my home 20 years plus and always got along with neightbor. Mine was the only white family on the street but all was well for close to 14 years. Had some small disagreements but seemed ok. Neighbors began to stir up trouble and file nu nmerous police complaints that were untrue. Judge recommened that I move to ptotect my family. It di work! I never want to go through that again.

About three nights ago (so still very traumatized) my bf that was visiting me and his 18 month old daughter when at about 7pm they started playing VERY loud music so he went round to tell them to be quiet as it was waking my daughter up, alls fine, got a tad louder and louder i called 101, my cousin and friend turned up for a takeaway, about an hour later there was a huuuuuge thud on my front door twice, my bf shot up and ran to the front door before he could even open the door properly between 8-10 full grown men shoved it open grabbed him by the throat and tried to bundle him, THANKGOD we had two men in the house that were able to wrestle them out the door! Soo many what ifs going through my head! i call 999 TWICE as i was terrified and taking ages! they arrested the three of the '10' ( just a note we live in a street of terraces, 3 Slovak families one side 2 the other all related some how this is how there ended up being around 50 people outside against us 4 and a baby!!!) today we get a phone call apologising for the delay as they couldn't get a translator for them sooner as they speak almost no English, and we were told that all their stories added up and charges would be dropped as they said my bf DRAGGED them in to MY home!!! sorry but WHAT THE F*@K i am a little more than absolutely astounded shocked and SEETHING!!! iv had to have a group of family stay with me as im am petrified that now they are out they're going to do something awful i cant imagine ever feeling safe again! the council wont help nor will the police! all i want is my baby to be safe in her own home!!! its DISGUSTING

Ive been attacked few days ago...still traumatized by it...they say he (attacker) got stressed...meant have some mental problem..but I believe he is a drug addict...now I just cant decide what should I do...he tend to attack me by a hard broomstick..but missed out..thank God...should I go to the police? Since attacker missed out to hit me...but I really scared he might comes back and repeat it...the estate security knew about this...I just cant decide shud I make rwport or just move on with it? His (attacker) family say that his mum would come from Sulawesi and take him away....I just hope that they do it as fast as possible....because I really cant accept what he try to do to me...I am very traumatized by this... :(still cant believe it happen to me

For the past 5 years we have had problem neighbours living in a council house next door to our privately owned property. to cut a long story short last April I was hit in the eye by the neighbours ( drug and alcohol ) addict son with a claw hammer which he then threw through my front living room window. he was sentenced to 10 days prison for that. we have had to put up with him turning up all hours of the morning shouting and kicking his mothers front door. knocking on our door and threatening to petrol bomb us. he is alway arrested but back at his mothers house the next day. The local council took action by telling his mother he was not allowed at the property between the hours of 6pm and 11am but he continued to turn up and making our lives hell. we found out this order was voluntary which means he could still turn up. we then found out that two asbo officers from the council had actually told the mother to keep him at the property? now the council are trying to get an asbo against him but we know this will not work and throughout this the council have constantly lied to us telling us they were not aware of many of the problem's encountered by us. to which we and the local police were shocked by because the police have constantly informed the council and fought hard to have the neighbours removed it has been so bad that sadly we have just agreed the sale of our property which is heartbreaking as we have lived at the address for 30 years and forced to move on. we work hard whilst our neighbours recieve every benefit available even DLA and to make it more laughable the son recieves carers allowance how can this be? who does he get it for? because he is a drunk a drug fiend and very violent. We feel we have a good case to sue the local council but at present we just want to try and sort our lives out. I have had two strokes in the past and feel my health has become worse than ever. we are both seekin counselling and it's so sickening to sit and watch whilst the neighbours from hell get everything. This world is so corrupt. we stood up to the problem's which has only made our lives hell. we know the local council are hiding something about this family. so my advise to anyone going through the same as we have is to move on because the authorities especially the council stink of corruption and ignorance.

If there's physical violence you should always involve the police. It can be up to you whether to bring charges, but there will be a police report, and if it becomes part of a pattern, it's documented for later use in court. This is vital, and if it persists you can take action against the neighbour (people do change). Even if it seems like a one-off incident, it's always best to report it, just in case.
